For a mission critical server then 3 years is the point at which you should start considering replacing it.

Personally, I'd look at something like a higher end QNAP/Synology etc NAS box to seperate you file storage completely from you DC. As per tonyd, replacing you server would be quite a good idea, sound like it's getting end of life.

You get what you pay for. If you buy a £200 NAS box, don't expect much, if you go into the more serious gear which will cost you not far off what a new server would cost, then you'd be able to run everything off that with better performance than you get from your server.

Dell E-Series E1911 and the Dell AX510PA E-series sound bar will do this, but please double check the sound bar fits that monitor, this was just off their website and I beleve the sound bar fits all E-Series monitors.

We like to be challenged and I do qute enjoy your blog, the only thing that grates on it is the negative attitude to ICT Technicians that you have, seeing them as the barrier to change and a hindrance. As you can see from this thread, we do embrace change, the problem is most of us have had expensive change enforced on us by SLT/LEA/Consultants that has turned into a complete failure for the simple reason they didn't bother to talk to school ICT Technicians/Network Managers in the early stages of planning the project. This has left most of us battle scarred and with a slight twitch

Personally I would go with the advice above and stick with the existing router and buy a decent wireless access point, it then stops the internet provider blaming everything on your router. I know this will be pretty expensive, but if they want rock solid, dual band wireless then you could look at buying a Ruckus access point as they will operate standalone. It will solve the contention issues quite easilly :-)

No disadvantages, the big advantage is you don't get all the crapware the mobile phone providers stick on their branded versions.

Yes, it's an original Desire, I've had it just over a year now. I did have to wipe it and reset to factory defaults to get it to root, but once that's done it's pretty easy. Just follow the instructions on the http://www.cyanogenmod.com for the HTC Desire GSM. One thing though, cyanogen doesn't have the HTC Sense stuff on it, it's more vanilla Android, but there are ROMS with sense on them if you like it.

Sorry, don't use either. The battery life on mine was sorted when I rooted the thing and stuck Cyanogen on it, my phone plan is an old one which still has unlimited data.

Agreed, but the original post is about skipping your entire infrastructure and replacing with chromebooks.

Hope you've costed and checked your licensing properly for doing this, there are loads of apps for which the standard licence doesn't cover use through terminal services/citrix or being made available outside of the network and published over the internet, even if secured.

We've had an EES agreement since March, all our server products were purchased through it. What you have described above is the Desktop bundle, which includes the various CALs depending on which version you buy and is the part which you need to do an FTE count on. That is just one part of the EES agreement, the server products etc you can buy as required and will be on the same subscription agreement.

Point 7 isn't quite right, server products etc can all be bought through the EES agreement.
