Diagnosing Connectivity Problems
bio replied to enjay's topic in Internet Related/Filtering/Firewall
Personally i don't see how a desktop installed program can troubleshoot your problem the right way. I would fire up wireshark(or something) and tap it into various places of your network to investigate. bio.. -
I would do this with a proxy/firewall. But i guess you could do this the hard way by creating a loginscript that copies a modified hostname (that points facebook.com to dead ip) based on AD groups to the local machine. bio..

Found this for you : If you dont have control over a router or firewall you can block IP's at the server via Windows 2003. Click 'Start' > 'Run' >type 'MMC' press ok. In the console click > 'File' > 'Add/Remove Snap in' In the 'Standalone Tab' click The 'add' button Select 'IP Security Policy Managment' > 'ADD' > 'Local Computer' > 'finish' > 'close' > 'ok' You should now be back to the console. In the left frame right click 'IP security policies on local computer' > 'Create IP security policy' Click Next and then name your policy 'Block IP' and type a description. Click 'Next' then leave 'activate' ticked then click 'Next' leave the 'edit properties ticked and click 'Finish' You should now have the properties window open. Click 'ADD' then click 'Next' to continue. Leave 'This rule does not specify a tunnel' selected and click 'next' Leave 'all network connections' selected and click 'next' You should now be on the IP filter list. You need to create a new filter, so dont select any of the default ones. Click 'ADD' Type a Name for your list, call it 'IP block list' Type a description in, can be same as name. Click 'ADD' then click 'Next' to continue. In the description box type a description. As its the first IP you are blocking call it 'IP1' or 'IP Range 1' Leave ticked the 'Mirrored. Match packets with the exact opposite source and destination addresses' Click 'Next' The 'Source address' should be left as 'My IP address' click 'Next' You can now select 'A Specific IP address' or 'A Specific Subnet' for the Destination address. Type in the IP address you want to block and if blocking a subnet type in the subnet block. Click 'next' Leave the protocol type as 'Any' and click 'Next' and then 'Finish' You have now blocked your first IP or IP range. Otherwise upgrade to windows 2008 or use ACL on your router/switch bio..

Internet filtering for Primary School

Glad to see this post.... We have a couple of HP 8200 SFF (around 70) ...that keep BSOD'ing since last monday. They BSOD at the logon screen. They worked flawlessly for some months.....The only 2 variables i can think about is a new antivirus pattern file and the winter time clock change. It seems that the INTEL HD video driver & KB2393802 also mess things up (looking on the internet)... Building a new image on that machine from the ground up now to see whats going on... bio..

I have been working with proxy2.0/isa2000/isa2004/isa2006/TMG for many years now and i agree that ISA2006 was most stable. I hope that SP2 fixes the few glitches we have with TMG bio..

Please...pretty...help me to find the adm file in win 2k8
bio replied to macsit's topic in Windows Server 2008 R2
I don't think you know the concepts of GPO's very well. ADM or ADMX files are used to create GPo's, these GPo's are placed on AD objects. When a user or machine boots/log's in it will change registry values according to that GPO. GPO's do NOT create ADM files. I urge you to read materials about GPO's before mingling with them. http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/windowsserver/bb310732 bio.. -
+1 we experienced this also some years back bio..

Yes it will work but I personally prefer the TMG Firewall client because it support an AD marker and HTTPS inspection notification. bio..
