So I'm confused - what licence do I need if I wanted to manage the whole network with SCCM 2012 and I held an EES agreement? I thought I still needed to purchase server licences, is that right? And would that be per physical box or per virtual windows server?

We're in Cumbria so a slightly different setup probably. We currently have a Smoothwall box for student web traffic and use the NED box for Staff internet access. It's worked ok for a while, but I'm getting issues that I'm really fed up with now so toying with either consolidating all to the Smoothwall box or building my own Squid box for staff. The major niggling issue I have with the NED box is the fact that certain websites just won't login through it, such as talktalk/tiscali webmail, or there's something weird with Yahoo mail that happens also that we keep reverting back to the default cache for. (It's not just webmail, there are also various other sites that the NED box just causes issues with). The other thing I don't particluarly like about the NED box is the logs (hopeless) and the filtering isn't the easiest/nicest to configure. We're a small school, but I do know of much larger schools (ie 1200 students + staff) who used to run on only the NED box with no major issues.

Running Validate Memberships fixed this for us - might be worth a shot (although ours just had a single teacher assigned)?

Had a quick play with the install on my machine, looks like it is the cclibs file in the Yenka\software folder that holds the licence details.

Don't know whether it's right or not, but it works. Have added the DC to the DNS Update Proxy group and created a standard user and added the credientials to the DHCP server. Ran the following command because another website said you needed to on Windows 2008 R2 DC's: dnscmd /config /enableednsprobes 0 Enabled the dHCP server to register all records regardless and the DNS zones are repopulating. Will have to wait and see if it throws up any other problems I guess....

Think it was .net4 full version - I think it got confused somewhere along the line because I had installed the .net4 framework but then the SMART installer proceeded to reinstall it or do something with it, probably corrupting bits of it along the way.

I think I had a similar problem - can't remember exactly but I think I repaired the .net framework and then reinstalled SMART Notebook.

What I did was produce a sheet with a big warning at the top, asking what program used for email (outlook/outlook express/webmail), are files in My Documents that need saving, are there files on the desktop that need saving, any programs that need to be reinstalled and any other information. The big warning at the top said if you don't put it on this sheet and you don't give it back to me by the deadline, then it's your fault if it's lost. Nobody came and complained to me other then one person who mentioned it in passing, but then freely admitted it was their own fault for not putting it on the sheet.

I had the same issue. For anyone else, the advice I got from Sibelius was just use the option for another internet connection and copy the url into your browser. The licence server uses port 3443 to contact it where as the browser activation operates over normal ports and gives you the licence file you need.

Evening all Our Geography department had purchased Aegis 3 and the OS Mastermap module ages ago (before I started here) and now they are wanting to use it. Now I may being thick, but I've got the MSI to deploy and it happily deploys with all the correct licence keys however, I can't find any maps anywhere and no one really knows how to use it. Can anyone point me in the right direction - are we supposed to have maps supplied and they have gone walkabouts somewhere else or are maps completely seperate from the OS Mastermap? To be honest I haven't a clue and I don't think the Advisory Service website is the easiest to find your way arround either (probably because I don't know what I'm looking for). :/ Thanks!

I'll admit this was possibly a year and a half ago when I last looked at the Preton software, however as an initial test I ran it on my machine and uninstalled it 3 days later. While the quality difference isn't supposed to be noticable, on the printer I was using Preton managed to strip images and watermarks out of documents on the default settings and with supposedly no toner saving applied the printout still looked very washed out, almost as if a new toner was needed despite it being a brand new toner installed. I did speak to Teamlogic about it, however I wasn't impressed that even with settings set to 0 the quality was still pretty poor, in the end it could have been either the printer I was using or the fact it was a compatabile toner that was in at the time. I like the theory, I don't think it's a bad product and it certainly does reduce the amount of toner being used, but my advice is it certainly needs testing and the settings tweaked against every printer your going to run it with.

Servers seem to be replicating correctly, no errors are being logged anywhere and the ipconfig appears normal. As an example that it definitely seems to be something to do with Windows 7 or along those lines, every day this week I have redeployed one computer from XP to Windows 7. In each case I've deleted the DNS records for the machine, redeployed it and then the Forward lookup is recreated, the reverse lookup isn't. In each case the machine had a reverse lookup record before it was reinstalled with windows 7.

No other IP is occupying it, it's practically empty apart from my servers, static entries and Windows XP machines now. Will try and check the DNS Proxy account (although I think I just added the server to the DNS Proxy usergroup)

I did look at Silverlight and we have Microsoft Blend through the dreamspark/expression web included in the EES agreement but at the glance I took it did seem heavily programming based. I think ideally, while simple programming might be viable, anything complex would rather be avoided.

Hi all I've been asked if anyone can recommend me a Flash alternative, for the main purpose of creating animations/banners. Flash and/or Adobe site licences are just to far beyond us at the moment however much I would like to purchase them so, cheaper the better if possible! Thanks

Can't comment on the one's you've mentioned, but I'm currently using a HP microserver with a couple of 2TB disks thrown into it (already had the microserver, just repurposed it).

We had that 2 days after upgrading an IT suite. Promptly disabled site wise after that!

DNS is AD integrated, the few XP machines we still have are still registering in the Reverse Zones, All servers have been restarted this week. Tried the ipconfig command and it still doesn't appear for Windows 7 machines. Server OS is 1 Server 2003 machine and 2 2008 R2 machines.

This has me stumped but not sure whether I've resolved it yet or not. I set up reverse dns for the ip range that we have when I started and it's been working quite happily. This summer we upgraded to Windows 7 and now no machine is registering the reverse DNS records. Have I missed something obvious in my setup that worked quite happily in XP but doesn't in 7 (because I don't remember setting anything specific)? Thanks

It's funny, I've had 3 people ask me this week about whether we have a secure email system and I've just assumed no because of the reasons above but it's made me wonder, is it something, like everything else, I should be looking in to it and how would I even start to look at going about it?

Sorted, managed to create a plugin that encompassed all except one of the embed codes and it seems to be working across the network - guess I just needed to take a break from it!

Hi I seem to be having major problems with my Wordpress multisite which we use for Media Students. Previously we seem to have managed fine with embeding content, however scribd and various others are causing me problems at the moment, even the Youtube one seems highly unreliable. So I'm trying to find either a plugin/instructions that will easily let me create shortcodes for the multisite, a way to use only the shortcodes from the Jetpack plugin without having to register each site with Wordpress.com or a way to rip the shortcodes out of Jetpack and use them in a custom fashion avoiding all the other bumf with Jetpack. Anyone have any advice? Thanks!
