We used both FOG 0.30 and GP to do it. Just FOG now its just a simple tick and time and done.

Hi guys I am making customisations to the latest office 07 adm files in group policy. forest is on 2003 currently what we have but tommrow they will be 2008 on vmware. Any ideas if my customisations are not working due to server 2003 and when upgrade to 2008 they will work? Cant find anything on google and am strapped for time. Essentially I need to disable the annoying pop up (trust center) on office start up as we already have an MSI which we haven't got time to re do at the moment which is why i want to do on gp. Thanks.

You work in education and when going to business alot will put it down - 'not the real world' or some sort. Worked in both education and business in IT, there are differences but I would say your more a generalist in education. Companies still have these as sys admins but as you get into the big corps specialised teams deal in specialised stuff. The pace in business can be a bit faster than education for example timings, deadlines etc.

This is one of the few positions I have seen where the employee recieves a good compensation in exchange for their service.
-
Ive looked everywhere. Apprently there is a sysprep driver scanner but we gave up for the easier solution. We just install as many drivers as we can on one type then go to others and test + resysprep then reupload to FOG. Good to have different image versions anyway. Just out of curiosity what commands are you using to start sysprep? Theres probably something wrong in your answer file if its coming up with a fatal error every time. If you want I will forward you ours. Weve 'rewritten' it a few times and definately works on all our machine types - laptops and desktops (pretty much all dells) and our rubbish Idesks.
-
Anyone in Dorset? I know of about 6 members on here from Bournemouth/Poole area. Would be good to get people together from other schools I have never met before. Networking so key nowa days ; )
-
Sysprep works fine and is useful not just for newsid purposes... The issue with your fatal error may be to do with that you have syspreped more than 3 times on that machine. We played around with skip rearm and things started working after KMS started liscencing (count of 25+ first with W7)
-
In the interests of networking I would do one. I have done in the past with people from certforums.co.uk Depends on where abouts you are in SW though.

For volume licenses, activation clock reset behavior is different, depending on the type of license. Activation can be reset an unlimited number of times for an activated Key Management Service (KMS) clients. For non-activated KMS clients, the activation clock can be reset only up to three times, the same as a single license. Microsoft recommends that KMS clients use the sysprep /generalize command where the value of the SkipRearm setting is equal to 1. After capturing this image, use the sysprep /generalize command where the value of the SkipRearm setting is equal to 0. You could always try forcing activation on your machine before syspreping?
-
My question above is still valid if anyone wants to add any of their info? In the interests of time as we couldn't find any simple way to get get drivers on one machine for all our types, we went down the root of trying to install as many drivers as we could on one machine type then going to others and re syspreping each time. Then ran into the sysprep limit. Skip rearm option in unattend xml and KMS are things we used to sort it.
-
KMS could help with the sysprep issue I read + you could use the skip rearm option in your xml.
-
We are having issues finding the best way to get all the drivers for our multiple machine types on one master image. This is for W7 and we are using the latest version of FOG / AIK - sysprep (unattend file). Not really up for having a different image for each type or going to each machine type and respreping every time. pnputil –a \*.inf - I saw somebody used this once... Also having a driver store and loading that up on the unattend script. So my question is how are you going about it ? What is the best way.

Good luck then. Maybe you should get some certs under your belt to back up your experiance.. Perhaps the new school would pay for it? Some MCPs or higher educaitions

Moving to one school seems like a bit of a risk. Surely you could increase your hours with the school and perhaps drop another ? In terms of career development variety is the spice of life. Contradicting what alot of people have said above I think having more schools would be better. (Maybe not on the stress levels - but that depends on how you handle stress) I would also question if there would be enough to do long term at one site? You may eventually be drawn to browsing the internet or not doing anything particuarly constructive....You say your interested in multimedia? But unless your an expert what actual skills are you getting in delving into 'multimedia' stuff for your career? As lets face it, senior management just want a working computer network.
