I have to agree. I'm constantly adding workstations, it's not a big deal.

Sounds like it's fallen over. Check your Deployment Service (view local services > Solus3 Deployment Service) and make sure it's running. If it's not, turn it on! Unless you've changed it, the timeout is 30 mins so unless you desperately need it to deploy SIMS asap, leave it for 30 mins to see what it does. Failing that if it doesn't sort itself out, go back to services and turn off the Deployment Service, wait a minute or so and then turn it back on. This will trip the upgrade over and make it come back as a failure. This sounds like it's a bad thing but it's better than it being stuck in no-mans land.

Check your deployment history. Is anything still deploying? i.e. is the SOLUS 3.7 still active or does is it complete? I had the issue initially that i couldnt deploy anything etc and it was because the 3.7 had fallen over at some point and was stuck!

Yeah I wouldn't worry much about it. As you say most likely just induction noise. You're clearly paying attention to the characteristics of your car so you will soon know when something is actually wrong.

As mentioned, it could be a misfire but i doubt it. It's more likely that you're revs are simply too low. Right at the lower end of the rev range, your motor will have very little power/torque as all that comes further up the rev range and being in a high gear will be 'harder' for the engine. By trying to accelerate from say 800rpm in 5th gear, your engine is working really really hard and by doing so will be dumping in excess fuel. Think about riding a bike; imagine you get on your bike, put it in it's highest gear and try to start off - it's difficult right? Now do exactly the same but in the 'correct' gear i.e. a lower gear, it will be much easier and you will use less energy too. The principle is exactly the same. It's important to note that by doing this (i.e. being in a high gear at low speed to the point that your causing the car to judder etc) will actually increase your fuel consumption substantially. Prey to the SIMS gods in the sky that they don't mess this one up! I've far too much to do as it is.

I believe the SOLUS3 agent actually disables SIMSLOAD so this shouldn't make any difference. This will only have an effect if the S3 Agent isn't actually installed on the machine in which case the machine wouldn't have been upgraded anyway. All of our Primary Schools still have SIMSload.exe within their SIMS shortcuts and all are pointing to obsolete Setups folders without issue.

This doesn't work if they're using S3. The Setups folder no longer gets updated!

Easiest fix to get you back up and running (obviously don't use this as perm solution, resolve the underlying issue as well, this is just get the machine back in use) Go to: C:\program files\SIMS on the broken machine and rename the SIMS .net folder to something like SIMS.net old Then find a machine that did upgrade correctly. On the working machine go to C:\program files\SIMS and copy the SIMS .net folder. Paste the working SIMS .net folder into the SIMS directory on the b0rked machine. Will then be back up and running.

Redeploying is the norm with S3 so don't worry about it not being good practice. Trust me, you will get used to redeploying! I agree with Minimoo in regards to running the upgrade of an evening rather than the morning. Even if all (or the vast majority of the workstations) are turned off at the time of the deployment, they should spring into life and upgrade as soon as they are turned on first thing the next morning. This is also where using the 'Auto Download to Agents' feature within S3 pays off as it can speed up the Agent upgrade considerably (how much depends on your network speed). We generally have a large chunk go through successfully but there are always a few machines that fail. Some are teachers trying to open SIMS before the upgrade has completed others are just S3 being... S3 Unfortunately I think SIMS upgrade time is always going to be a little disruptive, no matter how well you plan.
