its the new adobe flash, if you log in as a non admin it just sits on google and takes ages to move on works fine if you log in with admin rights, add user write permissions to these folders and see if that cures it. %allusersprofile%\adobe %systemroot%\system32\macromed\

i have done this when a usb stick has been snapped at the connector, it might just need opening up and having the broken connections temporarily bridged to get the data off, either way the usb stick is junk afterwards.

we export to pst for future school requirements only, as MatthewL said the data is the schools, the same thing goes for their files.

just for info when manufaturers build the pc's they mark a flag in the bios to say it has an os preinstalled, you cannot activate windows 7 using kms if this flag is not present. this is also true if you build your own pc's. you might find that most of the time manufacturers will not ship without an os as it actually creates more work for them.

other than turning off the caching, no not as far as i am aware, it would appear the option for "prohibit 'make available offline' for these file and folders" only removes the option and doesn't turn of the automatic caching

Sorry for the confusion, the automatic offline files when a drive is mapped was just for info not a setting. ok the best way would be via the caching in this case, otherwise you'd have to manually prohibit every share you don't want available offiline although either way will have the desired results you may have more control usinf group poilcy as you can set it for different groups /users

go to User config > administrative templates > network > offline files. if a drive is mapped it will automatically try to make it available offline you can stop them from being made offline in the same location in group policy. i have set the caching to files will not be made available offline for all shares apart from the ones that are needed offline.

you can use group policy to specify what folders to make offline, to prevent folders that you don't want being made offline just turn off the caching

yeah just change the server name in the connect ini file when you want to connect to the new server you can edit the connect ini on individual pcs to allow access.

if you change the settings on the shared folders you dont want available offline under caching it will prevent them from being synced

as long as the connect.ini doesnt point to that server they won't be able to log onto it.

redirect their document folders and desktop to their directory on the server, make sure they're not a memeber of local admins and they shouldn't be able to save anywhere else. folder redirection is done within group policy.

you will need to activate the home use in Microsoft Volume licensing service centre website. log in and click software assurance, select home use, select your licesnse agreement and set up the options, you then give staff the link and a code (it is not a license code but a code to ling to your ees agreement) they will also need to provide their email address for the school. they can then purchase a full copy office for £9.99 or there abouts that they keep. the other option is called work form home which involves you installing the software on their home machines as you're not supposed to give out the volume license key.

we've had a couple of xp machines do that, we ended up changing the name by putting an a at the end ie ours were af7-02 so we changed it to af7-02a and it changed everything correctly. changing the name back however didn't work so we've just left it with an "a" on the end

looking at our config for version 4 the data files are here c:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Units of Sound\ which holds the students.ini and all of the s1 to s59 folder etc. for version 5 its stored on a network share.

microsoft volume licensing has always provided an upgrade os for desktop and not a full version. this is nothing new to ees, you don't need to pay more for machines without a license in fact if you were to try and use kms to activate those machines it would fail as the wouldn't have the oem os flag set in the bios.
