If you want to deploy Java updates to your whole network along with Adobe reader, Flash, Shockwave etc and get rid of those annoying pop ups that keep stating that there are updates to be installed use PDQ Deploy and PDQ inventory. The software has pre-built packages that will disable auto updating and install the software for you. You can also build your own packages using MSI's and it will put pre-built install switch's on for you. Had a couple of same issues with ECDL software where Java had to be updated first to 7.5 then 8. PDQ already had both packages in the software. As easy as right click on your active directory container and deploy Java 8 to that selection of computers.

Ours were funning fine until we upgraded to the new 1020e. What AP's are you using. When we had the AP301 it seemed to be fine.

Hi, Does anybody have an Apple MacBook pro laptop trolley with approx. 20+ laptops on a Meru network. We just purchased 20 new MacBook Pro's and are struggling with them on our Meru network. Soon as we take them off all runs fine or if we put the standalone Netgear wireless back in all runs fine. it is only when we try and connect them to the Meru wireless network.

We are running 3 Server 2012 domain controllers. We have an issue where in computers that still have IE 9 on they have the tick in the box for Auto detect settings in the LAN settings area. I have applied a new policy for IE 9 but cannot remove the tick as the setting is greyed out. In the IE 10 group policy you can remove the tick. Anybody experienced the same issue or advice how to get round it. We cannot upgrade to IE 10 or 11 at the moment due to it being needed for some Science software.

Hi, Had this problem when I was playing with getting a 8.1 WDS image ready. Have you installed .Net 3.5 using DISM at all or anything using DISM. I had to redo image with out .Net 3.5 and all worked fine.

Hi, Have you tried this: First Sign-in Animation - Enable or Disable in Windows 8 It basically stops the first sign-in animation of setting up apps and getting your account ready etc. Just put it on your master image and then when a user logs in you no longer get the long login. I also use a regedit trick to disable the Charm hints as well How to Disable Charms Bar Hint in Windows 8? - AskVG , along with the XML start screen layout in group policy. Works really well.

We are currently running Ranger 8 on 2 Windows 2008 domain controllers. As part of our summer project we are installing virtualisation and will be building 2 new server 2012 domain controllers, transferring all the roles from the 2008 DC's and then DCPromo'ing the 2008 DC's. What I am after is what is the best way to transfer Ranger 8 to the new 2012 DC's. The 2008 and 2012 will be running alongside each other for a short while so will I just be able to extend each one onto one of the new 2012 DC's or do you have to do a full transfer. Any advice or documentation would be appreciated.

By default .Net 3.5 will not install on Windows 8 behind a proxy web server. To install it, insert the Windows 8 installation disc and then open a cmd prompt with admin privaleges. Put the following command in and run: dism.exe /online /enable-feature /featurename:NetFX3 /Source:d:\sources\sxs /LimitAccess Change the drive letter before \sources to reflect the dvd drive you are using.​

The only way you can do it with windows 8 is with an unattended file when you sysprep. The copy profile does not work like it used to in Windows 7. Once you have put your machine in audit mode and have prepared the machine and start screen, when you sysprep it will copy the default profile from the local administrator account used when you go into audit mode. Metro screen works fine after that. There are some scripts that you can configure to remove some of the default apps that sometimes show but we have got ours working fine. Let me know if you need any step by step guides.

Has anybody managed to create a default start metro screen with only the default tiles that you want on it. I have one created through the default profile which works fine once I image through WDS but then as soon as I add some more software it fills the metro screen up again.

Has anybody managed to sort out a default profile for Windows 8 where you can set the Metro UI, taskbar etc. In Windows 7 we used a tool called Windows enabler which enabled us to copy any profile from Windows 7 and set it as the default profile. Can't seem to get that to work on Windows 8.

Hi Rawns, the current Solus 3 system already does the automatic redeploy now, you just have to ensure that all your workstations have the latest Solus 3 agent installed 3.4.118.0. If a workstation or laptop is offline when an update is done it will automatically update the next time it comes online.

Like it here. Sorted the Metro screen to what I use daily and now my favourite button is the 'Windows button'. Remote desktop app is great for accessing all our servers. Stick the Windows 8 start menu from Stardock on it and you get the best of both worlds. Very quick. Just working out now how to complete a default profile for it and will start rolling it out.

I think there is a few mis-conceptions here about Solus 3. We have 180 workstations and 90 staff laptops that all have SIMS.Net on. When we roll out a SIMS upgrade the 180 workstations are upgraded in about 30 minutes. We normally upgrade when staff have left work because the upgrade can take place without anybody being logged in. With regards to staff laptops that have been taken home and then brought back in the next day, as soon as they are switched on in the morning it will automatically update the SIMS client to the latest upgrade. You just need to ensure that all your workstations and staff laptops Solus 3 agents are on version 3.4.118.0 as before this version the auto updating did not work. An email to staff indicating when the upgrade is going to take place and to ensure that they bring there laptop in and have it switched on ensures the upgrade normally takes place without a hitch.

We also use transparent proxy through Smoothwall. We setup a separate Wireless network for the students on a different VLAN and IP range from the school network. They log into their wireless network then access the internet by putting their normal school username and password from active directory into a SSL login page. Once on the internet they can then access our Remote Desktop services system which gives them all the software and network drives. Works very well. With regards to the proxy settings on Windows 8, we have found that we had to set the proxy by command prompt, using NETSH WINHTTP SET PROXY, once this had been done all the apps working in Metro (or whatever they are calling it now).

Don't see what the problem is with the SLG. We have it rolled out to over a thousand pupils. All online reports and data collection is done online saving a lot of money with regards to using paper and admin time. Navigation through SharePoint is dependent on how you set it up that is why we host the system ourselves. Once bought, it costs very little in annual maintenance fees to run. We surveyed our parents and were complimented on the system. Suppose you cannot please everybody.

Hi Stuart, Drop me a line if you would like some information on rolling out SLG to parents. We have been using it for about 4 years now and nearly all our parents have a account. Recent improvements enabling reports to be posted online and the data collection sheet to also be completed online make it worth it's money.
