I presume your switch's are HP Procurve if they are managed. If they are you can enable Loop Protect which is a seperate thing from Spanning Tree. Take a look at this link https://wiki.xdroop.com/space/HP/ProCurve+5412z/Loop+Protection if you enable this it will show you exactly which port is looped.

Well we went in brave and updated all 800 workstations/laptops. All staff admin ones, SIMS, FMS etc. Decided to stay on 1511 and to date not had any problems apart from the occasional black screen after login. Have found that as days go by the workstations get better. I think it is that Windows 10 caches so much. For power off we use Impero at the end of the day and then we also used a small program called Switchoff, this lets you set a task to switch the computer off when you want. So all our computers are set to switch themselves on between 7 - 7.30 am and then switch off at various times after the school day. On Sat + Sun they switch on but switch off again 30 mins later.

Works fine here on Windows 10 IE 11. You are not using the Youtube education are you as this no longer exists. This was active in our Smoothwall as a divert. There is a new Youtube restricted mode in Smoothwall now. I also found that on Windows 10 in IE 11 it is best to disable protected mode. This makes everything run smoothly.

I have found that it only does it with the first login afterr start up.

Anybody use Music Maker 2016 or 2013. Had it installed on Windows 7 and worked fine for all users but installed on Windows 10 and it will only run for administrators. When a student tries to run it, it sticks on 'Initilizing Midi'. Many thanks

We are experiencing a wierd effect on our Windows 10 workstations. When logging in a suite of 32 computers 1 or 2 of them will stick on a black screen. To get around this we have to restart the computer. This is completely random as the next time you login those computers login fine but you might get 2 others do the same thing. Anybody else getting this and anybody found a solution?

Hi, have changed the file but it does not let me overwrite. What GPO did you use?

I know a lot has been posted about this but has anybody got a good definitive guide to creating a good local default profile for Windows 10 that gives a small default profile size and quick login. If I do it the official way by using the copy profile way it creates a large local default profile which is slow to login.

So upgraded most of the school to Windows 10 1511 by building an image that has no apps in the Wim file. All works fine. Just put the Windows update 'Feature update to Windows 10, Version 1607' on a test computer and it has re-installed all the apps again. Do not really want to create a new image and then roll out all over again but has anybody seen any new features that will disable the apps or hide them. If not will just block the feature update in Wsus.

No they are all on static.

That was exactly the same process that happened with Ranger then RM discontinued Ranger and tried forcing everyone to use their own RM product and did not support Ranger anymore. Just hope Impero are strong enough to resist!!!

Just had a flyer this morning which shows that RM is now in partnership with Impero. Remember the last time this happened when RM went into partnership with Ranger and that was the last we seen of Ranger.

OK excellent. Will give that a try next week when everyone is off. Thanks again for your help.

Thanks for that. All our students and staff use the Macs and login with their Active Directory usernames and passwords so we need access to the DC's. The students have their own file server for their home drives and shared area and the staff have their own file server for home drives and shared areas. We also use Kerberos authentication through our Smoothwall filtering. What setup do you have on your Layer 3 switch's? We use VMWare 5.5 and all hosts are connected into a HP 5412 RZL2. We have a single generic VLAN for all networks.
-
So just wondering how you setup the Domain Controllers and File servers to access the Apple Vlan or did you just Tag the Apple Vlan to all the Virtual hosts?
-
Did you do it on a Virtual System?
-
Hi, has anybody got their Macs on a seperate VLAN and also integrated into Active Directory where the file and Domain controllers are on VMWare. Just need a few pointers in the right direction.

Have been playing with the latest Insider Preview and not sure I like it. The start menu has now moved the user from the top to the bottom left hand side. Also the file explorer icon normally located on the left hand side of the start menu has now been hidden by default, you have to enable it to be shown. I had the login page background sorted by using login changer 1.5 and all worked well but does not work in the latest build. Although you can set the login background the same as the ctrl, alt, delete page but if you disable the requirement to ctrl, alt, delete then it reverts to a colour. Also I could not find a way to apply the settings for all users, as soon as I logged out and went back in as a new user it applied the default windows images. Also noticed that after imaging and deploying using WDS, (you can use the Windows 1511 WDS capture and deployment settings and ADK unattend file) that the first login was no different than the current Windows 1511 build, using local profiles.

Tried applying this, problem I have now is that when they open IE they keep getting warning message about protected mode not being enabled. Did you find a way to disable this message?
-
Yes we have had that but it seems to go away after a few days.

What is the latest version, might give it a try.
