Not true ozydave. Using the Sync service manager you just expand the AD tree and tick next whatever OU's you want to sync. I have 6 different ou's sync'd and they are all on different branches of our AD tree.

I used the WiseSoft Bulk AD Users to change the UPN of all the existing students and then make sure that it is set when creating any new users. Also before all that you have to go into AD Domains and Trusts and add you email domain as an alternate UPN Suffix.

Yes and Yes. we have all student email bcc'd to a dummy account which we can go in a view if there is any reports of inappropriate emails. There is also a blocked words list which we have a rule set to forward any emails containing those emails directly to the deputy principal (behavior). The only issue with the words list is that you have to enter the words manually ie no bulk import from csv. I didn't really enjoy having to type some of the words

There is an option in Edmodo to forward all connections from specific IP's to your school subdomain. We have it set that way so when we get students to create accounts at the college they are automatically enrolled in our school group. It is in the school account settings.

We use Edmodo (secondary college) and the students love it. It works well on iPads (which all students have) and easy for the teachers to self manage their classes. Most of the staff find it easy to use and there are some good tutorials etc available for those who struggle.

We use two Ubiquiti nanostations to provide a wifi bridge in a situation almost identical to yours. Because of mounting restrictions I don't even have them pointing directly at each other (about 30deg off) and the signal is still strong. I got them for under AU$100 each with poe brick and would easily use them again. The college next to us is using some of the other Ubiquiti gear to provide a backup bridge 7.5 kms across town!

We are investigating setting up Webdav on a local server that the students can log into to access the files. It can all be done through IIS 7 apparently.

A colleague at another school did that with his ZD as well. Out of memory he had to contact Ruckus Support and get them to remotely log into the unit and reset it for him. Sorry but not the news you probably wanted.

We use local profiles for all users with no redirections. I have forced some desktop shortcuts via GPP's and trim out the start menu and desktop in the default profile when creating the image. The students can rename icons as much as they want because when they log off the profile is wiped from the local machine. This is done by adding them to the domain guests group. So far I haven't had any major problems with this. Staff all have a dedicated machine so I let them do whatever they want. If it comes in broke and it takes more then 5 minutes to fix then it just gets a re-image.

I've almost finished migrating our entire college over to Win 7 and I'm glad to see the end of XP. Yes it was a great OS but it is almost 10 years old and I felt it was time to move on. I too feel that win7 runs better on some of our machines than XP did and certainly runs the big programs (ie autocad and corel) faster.

I had the same problem and found it was caused by the wmpnetwork service. I found a few threads on the MS website about it. Kill the process before imaging and so far no problems. I'm going to build myself a new image using a VM as well though in the next few weeks.

Thanks for the replies. I always intended to do a full backup and then restore onto a new array as I knew that rebuilding the array would not keep the data intact. Norphy - I did think about that but then I have no redundancy at all if the drive fails which for me is a no-no.

Hi, One of my servers is running 2*250Gb HDD's in raid 1 but I have almost run out of room. I have another spare HDD of the same size so I could put that in and re-configure to have a raid 5 array to give me more space. Can anyone see a problem with that. Backing up the extra space is not a problem, but I have head that raid 5 is not the best?!? Any criticism would be appreciated

The Client Side extensions is an update for XP/2003 machines that allows any "Preferences" set by using 2008 policies to be applied. For example I use preferences to map drives for users and while it worked fine for win7 machines I had to apply that update on my XP/2003 machines for them to get the drive maps.

If it was me I would spend a week in Sydney and then go up north into QLD. If you plan what you are doing you can fit a lot into a day. Don't waste your time with the Gold Coast - its just a beach! Cairns/Port douglas is spectactular and that time of year is perfect to see it. I would contact Tourism Australia and get some info from them and plan your time based on the things you like. This is slightly off topic but I would like to try creating an image on a VM and then simply injecting the drivers. What VM systems do people use to do this?

The State Government here are selling off assets to get themselves out of a HUGE deficit that they have incurred. They only people in the long run that will benefit from it are the brokers, lawyers and accountants. Now the premier is facing the battle of her career as there are not many people that want her around anymore. Selling off public assets is a waste of time and a short-term patch at best. I'm still working my around the new win7 sysprep - could you provide some more details on how to deploy an image in audit mode?

I used a blacklist filter with *safe*off* and that seems to work. I know it may cause problems occasionally with other searches but prefer that to the alternative.
