Having a dedicated server for basic stuff seams a bit overkill, how about somewhere like Dreamhost which is shared hosting in the US and it should be fine if it is not mission critical stuff. I can also get you a discount if you enter EDUGEEK when it asks for discounts you can get $75 off the yearly subscription and a free domain.
i have recently had 14 telephone conversations where 2 people hang up on me and one was so rude i had to hang up on him. we also had 6 engineers come out when the 2nd lot should of got the senior tech people out to sort out our relay slow connection and relay high ping rate. But its working for now.
almost as bad as a server that wouldn't reboot after power cuts unless I had pulled the power socket out the back, pressed the off switch a few times, plugged it back in, had a coffee and a walk over to year 3 and back!
Becouse i got fedup of having to reboot eveything at home when the wireless messed up for the Nth time for no apparent reasion. We now have cabel in all rooms that need it.
A mate of mine has been redoing his house for the past year on the weekends. Last weekend i spent some time laying down on the floors pulling cables though the old electric runs as he is a sparky and had rewired the house. He now has a network point in all bedrooms going to the living room where his media centre is going to be.
