ah - I looked on the thread linked further up - it is right - if no speakers are connected, it won't work.

Thanks Witch - it had leapt off it's IP address - little monkey.

Just off to check that now - good idea.

Printer claims to be offline, I cannot ping it. Have tried different network point, cables etc all to no avail. The green light on the network card remains on whilst connected - no orange light and no flashing light. Is it likely the network card has failed? Or is there something else I can try first?

UPDATE--- Solved by changing to a universal print driver. ----- I have a problem with a networked HP printer. When printing from 2 certain PCs (out of about 5 which use it), it prints all the pages on one, not scaled down, but on top of each other. It is fine for the other PCs. I have tried reinstalling it but no success. I read somewhere that selecting 'print direct to printer' will solve this, but what effect with this have on all machines using the printer? Is this wise or is there a better solution?

That's great as I have another which won't power up, but the link is no longer there.

At the bottom of the screen Mute keeps flashing off and on. Constantly. Have mashed the monitor buttons a few times to see if they are stuck, but all seem fine. Anyway to force a reset or anything? Cheers.

We use Winsent messenger - really good. One person sends the message - goes to all logged on PCs. If anyone wants to send a message, they call her. You can also send messages to individuals by username, but not a function we use it for. We use it for exactly what you just said.

Did you hear about armpit August - or whatever it was called - apparently, something for the ladies to do... :-/ not quite the same...!

Do you need a screen protector and recommendations?
Novalee replied to jmak's topic in Mobile Devices & Tablets
Well my iPhone has a rubber case which just stands slightly taller than the face of the phone. I noticed one scratch on the screen the other day but I have had this phone, hmm, about 8-10 months? More actually, pretty much since iPhone 5 release. The glass is scratch resistant and it is pretty good at it's job from what I can tell. And it is usually in my pockets, or handbag (where yes, I do just chuck it in :-/ ) -
So one of our teachers brought her flash drive to me with this problem - I think there is nothing I can do. No way to open it without formatting. Are there any free data recovery programs I might try to recover the data on there though as it is rather important? Thanks. Novalee

I was shocked by the comments on Twitter about the larger girl, Kayleigh? People were being downright cruel about her appearance - she is a teenager still and will likely read those comments - they could, and probably will, really upset her. Just outright bullying.

IT Crowd to return for one final episode......
Novalee replied to ICTD_vicki's topic in General Chat
So excited! Will have to have a 'final episode party'! -
What channel is it on? 4? I enjoyed the one in Essex, found it to be really interesting and showed how school life really is, not how a lot of parents and people who don't work in a school seem to imagine.

Does your school withhold its telephone number?
Novalee replied to laserblazer's topic in General Chat
I wish we did - if a member of staff calls a parent from anywhere in the building and they don't answer they later see the missed call with the switchboard number. Then call back and asked who phoned them. The receptionist has no way of knowing who called them, whether it was important or not etc. and parents can be left worrying why they were called. -
Massive congratulations! What a lovely name :-)

Which speakers do you use for classrooms?
Novalee replied to Novalee's topic in How do you do....it?
Thanks guys, these give me a few good ideas. -
Most classrooms have a projector, so speakers need to be enough to hear films etc for the whole class. Thanks.

We have glass/plastic (not really sure what it is) clear ceilings along our main corridors - it is like being in a greenhouse when it's like this. (fortunately our office is nice and 'normal' temperature!)

This sounds really brilliant - would love to be able to link everything like that. We currently only have ID cards for staff but if we could reasonably print them in school for a decent price etc. then I imagine we could be looking in the future at student ID cards as well. How do you all enforce them as a school? Do the students have to wear them or just be able to produce one when asked?
-
So we currently use an external company to print our ID badges. I think it would be beneficial to get a card printing machine in school. What use are ID cards if new staff have to wait a week or two to get a card? Does anyone else do this and has it been cost effective/practical? Thanks.
