I was searching for "abacus" and it pulled up all the threads with abacus in it and I noticed that one thread that I actually started about abacus wasn't highlighted in dark blue showing that I was subscribed. No big deal but was just suprised that it wasn't Simon PS THe post title is Abacus I planner

I don't know about others but this advert doesn't seem to match the normal tone of an Edugeeker selling no longer required goods onto fellow colleagues who might have a use for it at a reasonable price. IMHO things likes this should be sold on ebay and not here. Simon

3 hours later (after trying differnet machine and redoing master image!) it turns out that the correct partition was not makred as active and it was trying to boot from the data one So the wagon is finally rolling again! Si

And now having created an image on my first Win7 machine and resotring it to 2nd machine - afterwards it said can't read the hard drive! Si PS Rule one - don't leave jobs till last day before start of new year

I've installed 1000's of computers but its still nice when they throw curved balls at you Got some new optical mice to replace old ball ones - on the 3rd (identical) computer I came to (of course the most complaining teacher ) she came looking for me afterwards and said it doesn't work. It wanted to look for drivers on t'internet - I couldn't get the dialog box to work with the keyboard(???) so had to plug in old mouse (PS2 so needed to reboot) and then search for USB driver. It then said (after 5 mins of course) that the driver hadn't passed XP testing(!!!) and after we got past that - it then wanted an HID compliant device driver as well!!!!! After that final hurdle - the new mouse works. Just what you want in the middle of rolling out 7 new Win7 smartboard replacement machines Si

I'm not a expert Twit(ter) and one of my heads as asked about setting one for their school for parents to follow but is worried about a small minority sending abusive messages and wouldn't want the other parents seeing them. I'm assuming some of you are doing this - how do you police/filter things? regards Simon

I just simply stuck a note on the side of the monitor to say do right-click and then select Scan drive If you want to automate further then, prob AutoIt would do the job but I never bothered Simon

One of my schools got badly infected and I just simply set up an old machine and a shortcut on the screen to scan a pendrive when its plugged in. I plug the net cable in once a week and run Sophos Update and then unplug it again. Not theoretically foolproof but has worked fine in practice Simon

Got it working - yippee (Thanks to Chris and AngryT) Basically used Disk2vhd to make a virtual disc of the old classroom computer C Drive. Copied that to new Win7 Machine Create new Virtual Machine using this vhd. Run the remoteapp for XPSP3. Install Integration Components (via Virtual CD Drive in the XP VirtualPC - NOT VIA THE TOOLS MENU!!!!) Enable Integration Features (Via Tools menu ) Put shortcuts to any apps you want to run in WIn7 in the all users prog start menu on the XP VirtualPC. Bobs your Aunty's brother All the old junk that would take forever (if at possible) to install and run in Win7 now available as a virtual app in WIn7 I've also shared the old XP VM my docs and put shortcut to it in Win7 Documents to enable access to files between the two machines. Spoke too soon Although it would now allow me onto Windows Update site and seemed to working - when I came back to the computer today - all of the updates had failed - I retried XP3 alone and that failed. I tried a downloaded XP3 and that said get stuffed as well So I update the original physical machine to XP3 (that works fine) and then re-do DisktoVHD and set up the Virtual Machine again Simon

Just came across this problem when trying to update an XP SP2 VM to XP3 - I ran the windowsupdateagent30-x86, rebooted and now it seems to updating OK. Simon

Have you got a business idea/model for the companies to given them a similar total income? Mine is to stop distribution of all physical media and just to pay for content on demand (similiar to Sky box office) Now at the moment, Sky/HDMI encryption has stopped people copying content (AFAIK that is - PM me with details if you've broken them ) but I imagine once its the only way of nicking stuff it will get broken so that's the challenge for content providers. Or, of course, make the content cheap enough to rent that most people can't be bothered to steal it (like metered water ) Si

And that's the problem for the music/film/game industry. They have the law to protect their income but a large amount of people don't believe in it. Which other bits of the law don't you believe in (I don't go for dogmatic application of speed limits myself ) Si

That's the trouble when citizen's flout the law - when the state finally tries to stop it - they go way over the top and the baby goes out with the bath water. We've been "winning" for a few years now - time for the pain payback? Si

And what track are you actually running on? Does this action cause you legitimate problems? Is the site known for its philanthropist work and barring access will actually cause harm? There are a lot of people who have the mindset that because stuff is lying around on the internet then its fair game to take it - does the same policy apply to belongings in an unlocked house? Si PS - I'll open the meeting - my name is Simon and I download stuff that doesn't belong to me. In my defence its always stuff that's been already shown on free to air TV/will be coming next week on SKY 1 to which I already have a subscription but can't wait! But its still illegal and I couldn't complain if my (and everyone elses) internet access was restricted to stop me doing it.

But I got a day out and a very nice lunch at the Leyland Jarvis as part of a primary discussion group so it wasn't a TOTAL waste of money Si
