Just had a look around the local phone shops and the ALCATEL One Touch 990 at O2 "looked" the nicest. My main prob is going to trying to find out which ones handle school proxys! Si

Ah What you need are small laptops - not netbooks Netbooks are not very good for "grown-ups" using them as work machines - they are great for pupils using them in class for 1 lesson at a time You want 11/12 or even 13 inch WS models Si

Apps I actually use a lot of the time Handcent for texting Swype (pain in neck to install but I believe its inbuilt to Galaxys?) Shazam Tweetdeck for Twitter reading Google Sky (I've got a big telescope so this is a must have ) I toggle between Calendar Touch (Best interface but doesn't cope with > 1 screen of diary events ) and Calendar Pad as my calendar apps +Calendar Snooze to actuall remind me to do things Dropbox and Dropsync Angry Birds of course PhotoAF for panoramic shots Camera360 if wanting to shoot a nice pic use HDR mode Spotify (if you have a paid account) Rockplayer (to play back xvid/divx videos) UPnPlay as my DLNA client (to watch geek progs in bed without disturbing wife's Big Brother ) Battery Graph to see what flattened the battery unexpectly And of course - wi-fi analyser to see which AP has been switch off The main thing is to root your phone and then you can install Tasker and Samba Filesharing and ... Torch! Si PS and my own app to monitor speed while driving

I use Firebug for FF to just examine webpages just to see what my PHP code is outputting. I've just found out that I can "pretend" to alter the html/css and the results are displayed immeidately :-) Si

As a prof web person I bow to your opinion but in my schools - no-one is a "webmaster/webmistress" All my teachers have to create their own articles and upload pictures themselves. Hoole St Michael CE Primary School is one of mine - I left the school 2 years ago and the teachers/staff still maintain it without any geek assistance which makes it good for primaries (once setup of course) (or course it won't win any awards for design but it certainly does the job. I've got some Samsung N145 Plus Win7 netbooks and I went to do the old " insert picture from scanner in Paint" but it doesn't see the webcam The bundled Cyberthingy app brings up an image OK but I can't see it from Paint (or OO writer) Can someone check their Win7 machines to see if its a Win7 "feature" or a bug with these netbooks? @OP Which CMS you want to use depends on whoes going to be editing it. If a dedicated web person, then choose the one you like the look of. But if its going to be edited by office staff and teachers then ease of use in adding/editing articles is paramount. (which Joolma does once site layout is designed and built - no further work needed by techies ) Si

No - money is much much tighter than time (Well - it is at our end However,when an SMT member "needs" a new laptop as the old one is "too slow" then your time suddenly becomes much more precious and you can save it by buying them a brand new one - of course its usually much quiker to re-image their old one but lets not let the facts get in the way of a good yarn )

I think your confusing your standard teacher with David Bailey I turn the settings down on the cameras, in my schools, to save space and uploading/printing time, so 3Mp will do the job nicely This is for show and tell Si

This is for primaries that already upload pics to their website - the permissions (and teacher awareness of who has to be excluded from images) are already in place I believe I've made my thoughts on this subject clear in the other thread and I'd like to keep the discussion there please Si
