I'm looking for a screwdriver to open the RMone workstations it looks hexagonal in shape with a hole in the center to allow it to fit over a protruding pin on the screw. Our machines could do with a RAM upgrade and are out of warranty so we're happy enough to undertake this task ourselves if we can get the tool for the job Ignore me I was being foolish and spelling as RMone, once I searched for RM one I found it

I hope they implement the Warhawk lobby soon that was what I was waiting for home for. Apparantly it was supposed to allow your team to gather in your aparment pre-battle where you have a 'sandbox' view of the map complete with vehicles and toy soldier pieces. You can then use this to plan out tactics for the forthcoming battle which would really be cool for the clans.

Inconsistent workstation firewall lockdown
skawarrior replied to Nozza's topic in Network and Classroom Management
When you say internet problem is that a problem in that no innternet connection was available or a problem in applying Smartcache filters to the workstations? We are having an issue with our Smartcache filter not applying restrictions to a some machines in one of our rooms. I'm hoping the local firewall settings could solve this problem too -
I've been after a dartboard since we moved into our house but she won't let me. I might use this as a good excuse to shoehorn one into the spare room. I've looked into the iGoogle widgets some of them look great if I just keep hammering her with maths some of of it has got to stick.

I've looked on Amazon and there are a few books there I'll probably get her one of those. Although I think its more the mental arithmatic that she's struggling on so I'm looking for some (freeware) alternatives to the Brain Training games. Can't seem to find anything but demos or masses of Sudoku games She's just been offered a new post at a different school where they would like her to become head of the department next september. The fact that she's not yet QTS means she won't be on anywhere near the amount of money she should for the work she'll be doing. For this reason I really want her to get the numeracy out of the way so she can get on with doing what she does best, teaching music.

My wife is having trouble passing her numeracy skills test in order to achieve QTS status. She sailed through the ICT and english but maths has never been her strong point (in fact that a MASSIVE understatment). She's a brilliant teacher but can't progress any further in her career without QTS status. She has tried coaching from teachers in the maths department using brain training on the DS regulary. She's gone from failing abysmally to always being with 6 marks of the pass grade but she can't seem to find a way to get those few extra marks to pass. Anyone got any tips or relevent links that might help her out?

using Games consoles in the classroom
skawarrior replied to YorkshireTechie's topic in New Project Ideas
Our Year 12 ICT classes are studying OCR nationals Level 3. A unit of which involves the reasearch of programming for video games. For this reason we are currently in the process of aquiring one of each of the current and previous generation consoles. As far as suppliers go Westwood Associates (Forum Sponsers) are pretty much unbeatable in my experience. We have had interest in the use of PSP's and DS's but I can't see the benefits when you consider the cost of the devices and the fact that a lot of the "educational" software is available for a PC in some freeware form. -
looks interesting, I'll give it a go when I get some free time to set it up

The song about Ol' Butcher Pete is a bit disturbing Screw my karma 3dog is getting it tonight, if only so I don't have to hear that fool howling ever again. He's been annoying me for ages don't know why I didn't think about going back there and taking his head off with my shotgun.

Second recommendation for GIMP its very good and completely free. Wouldn't say its incredably simple but its not overly complicated though.

I'm looking at this system it seems reasonable priced for what should provide adequate performance. AMD Nvidia Ultra 400 Gaming PC - Cheap Computers & PC Repairs Wolverhampton Anyone see any flaws in this system bearing in mind I'd like to run the games with most graphical settings on full. Now there is no operating system so I plan on installing XP, a 64bit system would allow full use of the 4GB of RAM. But as JohnMason said 2GB isn't the end of the world, besides which if its a pair of 2GB modules I can reallocate a module to somewhere it would be quite useful.

If we were to go cutting edge would there be a huge difference graphics wise between the same games played on a PS3 or Xbox? The course requires that students can evaluate games on console and on PC. If there is little difference between the consoles and PCs when it comes to playing what is essentialy the same game then I'd rather save cash on the PC system and use it else where i.e better quality TV's.

A unit of OCR level 3 ICT requires our students to study computer gaming hardware and software. For this reason I have been tasked with sourcing the hardware, which is an Xbox, a Xbox360, a PSP, a PS3, a Gamecube, a Wii, a DS and a PC capable of playing most modern PC games. The consoles are easy enough but as someone who has always avoided PC gaming in favour of a console I'm not entirely sure what sort of specs I should be looking for. I find that a games official minimum specs have in the past been dubious, so could someone suggest a standard specification bearing in mind that in addition to the consoles 2 HD ready TV's are to purchased so we are on a pretty tight budget. And yes I intend to make use of the new school facilities during half term breaks

Does anyone out there know how to rename a RM CC3 workstation without rebuilding it. As far as I know this isn't possible. There is an RM commisioning tool but if you rename it via this method CC3 fails to pick it up on the network. Unfortuantly a rebuild is the way to go. Also has anyone found a way of restarting a screen saver locked workstation using the RM management console. RM say you have take the screen saver lock off for this to enabled to done, but staff need to have this security feature Although there is an option to restart even if a user is logged on it won't work if the screen saver lock is on. This is massively annoying as our staff leave the PC's logged in because they can't remember thier passwords. Best course of action is ditch CC3 its what we are in the process of doing.

How long till the end of the contract? If its not too long it may be worth telling them you are thinking of leaving. They usually fight to keep you with them and offer you really nice phones and sometimes even cut the cost of your current contract. They tried with me but the fact that I could have a my PS3 a week later led me to change contracts to what is considerably overpriced for what I get. The way I see it though its like buying a PS3 on reletively cheap credit.

I don't think built in bluetooth requires a dongle but I may be wrong. I'm assuming you are going for a pay as you go otherwise cost wouldn't be an issue really. I've got this and its not bad for whats is essentially a really basic phone. Nokia 2630 I have however heard that if you use this phone on O2 the message they send to you when you miss a call can cause the phone to lockup. I'm on orange so it works perfect for me. I also got a free PS3 with this phone on an 18 month contract that was the main pull for me. Nokia 2760 Similar features on this phone but in a flip stylee Both are £19.95 if you buy £10 credit at the same time and are available on O2, Virgin, Orange & T-Mobile. The 2630 is also available on Vodaphone 2760 isn't.

Could you let me know if you do find a 'windows simulator' for the OCR nationals. At present we've got some old stand alone workstations for such a purpose but they keep getting trashed by the kids. A windows simulator would be very handy

This problem occurred in Bethesda studios Oblivion RPG. Its very annoying when it happens with an enemy nearby thus denying the use of fast travel. I would have thought this issue would have been solved I've had that or an inability to select the head I'm had to go out of VATS then back in quickstyle. Oh yea I also hit the G.O.A.T bug when I first played the game. You sit at the desk but nothing actually happens http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Fallout_3_bugs This game is full of bugs quite a few of which can ruin your game.

We didn't realise this and went for the xserve its a bit of an overkill just to manage the user profiles and hold the image for the macs. However it does mean that we are in a nice position should the schools Mac needs grow. We dealt with Jigsaw and they were pretty competative with pricing. They also provided us with a lot of support during the installation and sent two technicians when we encountered numerous login difficulties during the first few weeks of use. Helped us out no end considering none of us are Mac trained.

PS3 all the way!! Although I would definatly have to say its still not perfect. I've had the game randomly lockup twice in the middle of the wastelands. Considering the hours I've put into this game I can handle the small ratio of lockups. There have been few instances of characters not appearing in the loctions they should (yes, I've checked the time of day). These can usually be solved by leaving the area and returning.

If you are on PS3 I'd recommend Warhawk + the expansion packs if you are looking for something Team Fortress style. Its available to download for PSN with all expansions packs probably not that expensive but I can't remember an exact price. As for the missus has she played Sims Castaway that was pretty good. There's also Professor Layton and the Curious Village & Hotel Dusk: Room251 if she has a DS.
