[mdt] Make computer rejoin AD with old details
LytchettNM replied to b3n_lynch's topic in O/S Deployment
Depending on the firmware of your computers (with use Lenovo) you can send a WOL packet to start the PC’s,then setup windows deployment services to auto respond (without having to press f12) if you have WDS setup with its database it works like a dream using MAC address to identify the computer and assign the computers name. I have this setup and re-image the whole site each year with the latest version of Windows, I use WDS to identify the model of the computer and send just the relevant drivers to the computer. It has been a lot of work and research to get it working but it’s worked very well. Our next step will be to move our deployment share to a DFS share so that the WDS server is not doing all the work. -
DHCP server migration has broken our Ruckus wireless network
LytchettNM replied to tj2419's topic in Wireless Networks
Not knowing the ZD product but this sounds like the ZD does a DHCP relay to the IP address that the DHCP was on, can you temporarily change the IP address of your DHCP server back to what it was before just to check that if the DHCP service is back on that IP the wireless works again? Or maybe setup a secondary DHCP server on the old address. -
We have just installed over 70 x EAP223 indoor and a few of the outdoor version not complete yet have more to install over the next few weeks. Been testing for about 2 months and all seem good to us, on the controller side you can download the software controller, config via their webpage or theres an app for iOS. The EAP223 V3 are 2.4 and 5 MHz and do come with a POE Injector or you can use a POE switch.

We had a GPO that seem to work with 1709 but testing with 1803 it didn’t for some reason, but with 1709 using the international English version of 1803 I had to replace the file in en-GB and place a copy in en-US.
-
If you are are after and UK English definitely download the international English version of Windows 10 along with the version of office you need import all of this into MDT and then create a task sequence to install your OS and install and preconfigure office plus any of the pre-requisites you have in your image and if your running WSUS within your network it can complete windows updates for you as it deploys all of that in one go. We re-image all of our workstations every year and using MDT we can image over 900 PC’s in around a day and half such a powerful product and free.

You should be able to see statistics of the GBIC ports from each switches. And yes if your running at 10Gb with OM3 it is 300 meters.

Microsoft does provide a VPN solution called “Direct Access” that does NOT require terminal services licensing. You install direct access on the server that is going to manage your DA connection, during this installation and then it’s configuration it will create a group policy object so the computers you add to this group will be able to make an automatic VPN type connection while they are not within the LAN. The wizard to set up Direct Access is very good but you will need a static public IP address.
-
If you have windows servers, static IP address and your users are taking a company owned laptop home you can setup direct access for free.

VLANS no clue what to do need a dummies guide
LytchettNM replied to johbreaking's topic in Wired Networks
In very simple terms VLAN's allows you to think about a layer 2 switch chassis as housing multiple smaller switches. I would highly recommend setting up some spare switches BEFORE trying to implement this sort of change in a production network. -
VLAN Help for 2nd subnet
LytchettNM replied to steveritus's topic in Network and Classroom Management
Ok so you said that you have set the “router port” to trunk. Do you mean the port of the router or the port of the core switch connecting to the router? If can plug your laptop into the routers port and it works then the port of the router is configured as an access port, so the port of the switch you are connecting to the router must be configured the same as an access port. -
New Projector ideas and suggestions
LytchettNM replied to chewee's topic in AV and Multimedia Related
We got one of these with an infocus unit which was on offer at the time it fits as a direct replacement for the Orange beasts but would go for the epson in the future as we have found them to be very reliable around the rest of the site and can be networked which allows for remote control from a computer plus other LAN based projection which is great for open evening all showing the same video etc. https://www.avpartsmaster.co.uk/p-32825-ra43-pm-100-retro-fit-mount-for-promethean-2-systems-v1.aspx- 20 replies

VLAN Help for 2nd subnet
LytchettNM replied to steveritus's topic in Network and Classroom Management
So the first thing I would do is put an IP address on the core switch within VLAN 4 in the same subnet as the router, then ping from the core switch to the router this will prove you have the port of the core switch configured correctly. What is the make and model is your core switch? Some switch’s require the PVID to be set manually or there may be an issue with having two ports connected between your router and core switch. -
VLAN Help for 2nd subnet
LytchettNM replied to steveritus's topic in Network and Classroom Management
Our router has been configured with 2 subnets, one port: 172.18.192.0/24, gateway 172.18.192.254 (which hosts the server and everything), another port 10.0.59.0/24 (gateway: 10.0.59.254 OK so not getting into the should you be allowing this type of unfiltered access, you should be able to plug a computer/laptop into the port of the router’s interface that has the 10.0.59.0 subnet with say a static ip (assuming that the router does not have DHCP setup) of 10.0.59.1/24 and be able to ping the gateway of 10.0.59.254, if you can’t then the config on the router is not correct. With regard to if it should be tagged etc well that depends on what your are plugging in. Let say you create a new VLAN on your edge switch’s ie VLAN 59 then the ports on that edge switch that face a computer would normally be untagged and the port of that switch that is connected to your core switch would normally be tagged for VLAN 59, for each switch that is going to require access to this VLAN you will need to repeat this process. Now on the core switch if you have been able to ping the 10.x.x.x network then that port would need to be plugged into your core switch and that port on your core switch would need to be untagged on VLAN 59, the other ports that connect between the core switch and edge switch’s will need to be tagged. This will create a layer 2 Network/subnet across of the edge switches you configure, so the next this that will need to sorted out would DHCP and DNS I would use the router to provide these just to keep things simple. -
Have a very good look at the configuration for the current production VLANs and make sure you understand what they are doing before you add any new VLANs to a production network. If the DVR is already connected on port 3 of your edge switch then I can’t see why you should need to add a new VLAN? The DVR should request a IP address from your DHCP server of the VLAN that’s configured for that port, you might not need to do anything more than you have already done! But to address you question, on an edge switch the port facing a computer / DVR device would normally be an access port and not tagged with the port from the edge switch to the core switch / router would be a trunk port and would be tagged for the new VLAN. On the core switch that the edge switch is connected to you will need to same VLAN added to the trunk interface and this will need to be tagged, that VLAN would then need an IP address on the core switch to act as the gateway for that VLAN and the core switch would need a route to allow traffic between the current subnets and the new subnet your creating. I hope this helps.

Check bios for the version of OS you are trying to install. I had the same ish problem with some older server we have all 4 are the same spec, 3 would install and 1 would not until I updated its bios.

If your ISP can or should I say is prepared to provide a VPLS solution, each site would connect at the speed you chose for that site and the ISP would then provide the internet connection to the virtual network so maybe 200 meg pre large site and 100 for the smaller with a 100 pipe for all to share. If you current ISP can not, I’m sure there are others that can, we looked into our options should we become a MAT and one options was the VPLS and another was to have our ISP host our firewall at the London data centre and all of our site connect to the green side of our firewall.
-
Have you spoken to your ISP? Having worked in the industrial a few years ago there are things as ISP could do, it’s got to be worth asking the question. Personal I would want to look at each site having it’s own internet connection so that all sites are not affected by the main site in the event of a problem. I can provide you with contact details for a service provider that might be able to help.

Ok so if your EE router has 4 Ethernet ports and you have you server plugged into 1 of them, you should be able to plug your laptop into one of the other ports of the EE router at which point your laptop should get an IP address from the EE router. If I have understood you second post you plugged you laptop into the HP switch and you had the switch plugged into the server and no connection to the EE router? If this is correct then the laptop did not get an IP as you have not yet setup a DHCP server.
-
The first things you need to decide on are is my server powerful enough to do what you want sorry to say it’s not! This server has a 2 core CPU so you will have to have one for the physical server which only allows you to run 1 virtual server at the same time, so maybe just install the services you need directly on the physical server and don’t worry about virtual side of things. The EE modem how does this plug into the server please?

Ultra short throw projectors - Whats ones
LytchettNM replied to newpersn's topic in AV and Multimedia Related
The epson range all the way, purchase and bulb costs are good plus we network all of ours monitor them remotely and can turn them off when the teacher leave them on! Not had a chance to set it up yet but they also have a network broadcasts option which can show the same content on all of them at the same time, great feature for open evenings. -
You will need to make sure the firmware for the computer you are trying to deploy to has the virtualisation option enabled.

Hi, so just to double check you say you have used LACP in the team this LACP config needs to be on both the server and the LAG in the switch. Note that the link is not 1 x 2GB it is still 1GB but you now have 2 links at 1GB so if you should be able achieve better than 1GB but this would be dependant on the drive array the data is coming being able to provide the throughput, the server be able to cope with the load, the switch coping with the throughput and the NIC in the server being fully supported for teaming. I have also seen NIC duplex issues while running in a LAG.
