The old C5xxx series had brilliant print quality and were easy to install / administer (in primary schools). As they got older print costs increased a lot though. I find the newer ones aren't quite the same build quality, as efficient or cheap to run. Oki support has always been rather good though.

There is that to consider of course. We've put the Lenovo (various all on one models) all in ones in many of our schools and had few problems. We did have a batch of A70's that seemed to have a few issues - although Lenovo did come out and fix them. Hard drives and Ram are easy enough. PSU possible I think. Not sure on screens. There are 3 year warranties available (included in M92z). Not sure about longer than that. We did put some Acer all in ones in - although I'm not a massive fan of the brand. They weren't a nicely 'engineered' but looked like more standard board / components. And the PSU was external - both a pro and a con! A final thought would be a Fujitsu USFF - think they are Q models I think. Should be able to VESA mount I'd imagine

Lenovo M72z/92z ? All-in-one that will mount to a wall with a VESA mount, with the stand removed.

Our schools generally use Avemedia CP135 / CP150's. Some have tried cheaper models against our advice - and came back for Avermedia Entry level cost is around £230ish

As above - although I'm talking primary I would say they get broke as easily if they cost £5 or £50 (or more)

I'm sure the hitachi wall mounts - just we didn't use it like that. We compared a 50" widescreen plasma to a 64" Smartboard 660 and the difference was actually minimal, given square vs widescreen etc. I guess it depends on what size image you want!

Came across the same problem with Win2k8R2 and hitachi/4k drives (even 2tb drives). I also worked around with Cobian. For the system back up, I did that to an internal drive partition and scripted it to copy that backup to an external drive

it was the CPD27WN we used - although not on a wall mount. It has lots of inputs including HDMI and USB for 'PC less presentations'. There's a wireless option too. I reckon a Commerical 50" Plasma would be 15 to 20% more cost.

We've used the NEC U250x ultra short throw before - but the replacement is a little more expensive compared to the Hitachi we now use. I'll have to find the exact model. You definitely going projection route?

Yeah, we've been doing that eset deal for our schools - pretty good isn't it?! (I thought it was 2.60 per year at first!)

We tend to roll out Eset into our primary schools.

On XP I used to have to enable file and printer sharing to get a ping back (and to use the remote shutdown command)

If you've ruled out all that, could it be something strange at the server end? Perhaps DHCP related? Can you delete it's dhcp entry and/or try a static IP on the client.

One of our primary's uses their iMac and iMovie. Not sure. What camera they are using but as a total video / iMovie novice I managed to turn the pupils into newsreaders in a newsroom set! What in saying is iMovie has the functionality of you have a mac in school

Just checked on 2008 R2. It's under user config -> policies -> windows settings -> Internet explorer maintenance -> connection It is in our 'Standard' setup anyway.

Yeah we use 2k8 R2 and I'm sure it's there. Gonna remote on to one of our severs to check when I get chance!

It should still be there in the 2008 OS. We use it there for our clients.

Although I've criticised Lenovo support recently (with good reason), we've put plenty of Lenovo all- in-ones in our schools suites. The M72z is a current popular one. The M92z is a larger screen and comes with 3 year warranty I think.

We're only starting down this route but so far I've found Apple Configurator to be an excellent start - with a Charge/sync trolley. Perhaps using Meraki in addition if required. There are things that Apple Configurator could be better at but for free its not bad

Re: IBM - really? I find the whole Lenovo support poor recently. But i really like the all-in-ones and they're a great fit for our primary schools.

I was always a big fan of Lenovo hardware and the support - when IBM did it. My recent experience is that the hardware isn't so robust and the customer service / support is getting worse. Having said that I like the all-in-ones and the laptops are still reasonable to good quality and reliability wise.

We have quite a few similar old schools and I can't recall it being a major problem. What model of board are they? What is the exact problem - is it just out of calibration at the bottom or or you having to frequently orientate? Incidentally, are you using ceiling projector mounts?

Hi All. After browsing EduGeek for the Odd bit of problem solving / product info decided I should sign up and be more active. Myself and my small team look after a couple of dozen schools locally, providing all manner of IT Support and hardware procurement. We use Clonezilla at the moment. Got a fog machine setup but haven't had a chance to play. I'd like to look into WDS at some point too
