  1. Just for your reference, as promised, are the release notes so you can prepare for anything that may be of interest. · NEW: Ability to auto print a coversheet after printing the main document. There is now a checkbox next to each Coversheet print button that you can manually set. Or set option ‘PrintCoverSheet_Form2_AfterDocumentPrint’ or ‘PrintCoverSheet_Form4_AfterDocumentPrint’ to 1 in the config, to have the auto print turned on without the candidate having to do it. · NEW: ExamWritePad now uses an XML Schema XSD file to detect any errors in the ExamText files you are trying to load. What used to happen is if you loaded/opened an incorrectly formatted ExamText file then the main document window would be blank. It’s now as simple as “now you see me, or I quit” outcome. The schema XSD file resides in the ‘Assemblies’ folder, so please do not move it or else you cannot open or save EWP files. · NEW: You can now retrieve all Candidate Names for Active Directory which will be displayed in a drop-down list on the Candidate Information window. The config options you need to look out for to set this up are: ‘AD_GetCandidateNames’, ‘AD_GetCandidateNames’, ‘AD_OU’, ‘AD_Auth_User’, ’AD_Auth_Pass’ and ‘AD_LDAPServer’. All LDAP connections are now via SSL (port 636) hence the request for a username and password. NOTE: This depens on how you have formattd to the first name (given name) and surname (sn) fields in AD. · NEW: ‘Test Default Printer’ Button now includes the computer name, IP Address and Username on the test printout. This has been added for situations where you have multiple computers printing to the same printer. · NEW: You can now specify the following defaults in the config: Candidate Name, Candidate Number and Exam Board. These options appear in the config editor as ‘ExamDefaultCandidateName’, ‘ExamDefaultCandidateNumber’ and ‘ExamDefaultBoard’. · NEW: Candidate Information screen, when re-editing the information, upon clicking “Exit” will display a yes/no message box to suggest there are unsaved changes. ‘Yes’ will cancel the exit allowing you to click on ‘Save and Exit’ and ‘No’ will exit without saving changes. · NEW: Added new option “Supress_Save_Messages” to supress the two saved file message boxes to aid the efficiency. Displaying these types of boxes sometimes are deemed overkill and unnecessary. ConfigEditorGUI has also had this option added. · FIXED: Encrypted ExamText files that try to run on EWP with no specified/incorrectly specified encryption key, would open up blank then you click on save or wait for the autosave timer to elapse and it would save also, overwriting all the work in the file. Now when you try to open an encrypted file it will go through a verification check before loading it or quitting the open file process with an error. You will no longer get a blank screen and the possible of losing your encrypted file. · FIXED: When 'Save Prompt After Candidate Info Screen' and 'Auto Save' are both enabled, if you leave open the ‘Save As’ dialog window and the Auto Save Interval has elapsed, a second ‘Save As’ window will appear. The Auto Save Interval has now been set to start after the ‘Save As’ dialog has been closed, thus now only one will appear. · FIXED: Restoring from Previous version via the splash screen, with also having option “Startup_SavePromptAfterCandidateInfoScreen” set to 1 would force you to save the same file twice. · FIXED: Error handling information has been added to those handlers that didn’t have any at all. · FIXED: ConfigEditorGUI when clicking on “Reset to Defaults” would not offer the save changes on closing the application. · FIXED: Fullscreen didn’t work when the ‘Startup_FullscreenMode’ was set to 1 along with option ‘DisableControlBoxes’ also set to 1. The latter option ‘DisableControlBoxes’ has now been removed and depreciated is it doesn’t serve a purpose. You either want a full screen with no control boxes (‘Startup_FullscreenMode’ = 1) or a normal screen with control boxes (‘Startup_FullscreenMode’ = 0). · FIXED: All text boxes and Combo boxes, when right clicking on them, bought up a generic context menu that isn’t relevant and pointless, all these menus have been removed so that the only context menu you now have is the main document window. · UPDATED: TXTextControl control has been updated to service pack 2, to fix known issues including an issue where message boxes appear behind the main EWP window when in full screen mode when using the Find/Replace option. · UPDATED: ConfigEditorGUI has been update to v3.9.0.0 to align itself with the new/deprecated EWP config options.
  2. It’s in the new version next week [emoji1303][emoji1]
  3. Not sure about that one but in the new version you can suppress the save information boxes so they don’t appear in the config. It’s one thing less for the user to have to click on :-)
  4. New version this issue is fixed, but for now set the option in the config called disablecontrolboxes back to 0 then the full screen functions ok. disablecontrolboxes is deprecated in the new version out next week so isn’t an issue moving forward.
  5. Thanks for your kind words, EWP will continue to be free to use with no up-sell or built-in adverts. Makes life easier for everyone!! Enjoy...[emoji1][emoji1303]
  6. I doubt they are having the same discussion as we are. They will consult experts who have never worked in a school before....
  7. They do have but scattered in clusters. With regards cheating, anything is possible, notes in home dir, internet access, thus whole but needs proper thought. In terms of having many in a single room, it’s cost effective in terms of invigilators because you don’t need as many per room. Also smaller rooms means that the exam time table would go from 7 weeks to 10+ so how many schools would want that? Soo much more planning would be required, room changes, staffing etc... To wrap this up, online exams are a minefield. I’ve worked in IT for 20 years and I still prefer pen and paper. As for examboards, they go online so they can save money, no postage costs, no printing costs, no admin costs. They are solely invested in saving money not the logistics for a school.
  8. I bet when they do the consultation they don’t speak with anyone from real world IT or a bunch of schools. I bet they will trial it with a school, pay for what ever tech is required and then roll it out forcing other schools to fork out tens of thousands for gear that will be unfit for purpose... I’m interested to see this fail, not from a selfish point with regards ExamWritePad, but to prove that it just won’t work, full stop.
  9. http:// https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-wales-51588870 Many tech questions: Who is going to pay for 100-150 computers? You cannot mains power 100-150 devices in case of battery failure... How can IT Techs support so many, they would have to be onsite for every exam... How are you going to stop cheating?... Can you imagine 100-150 people tapping away on keyboards, too distracting.... I’m sure there are more things I haven’t thought about in 5 mins or responding to the article, good luck!
  10. I see, well best time to use EWP as a basic word processor. [emoji1][emoji1303]
  11. photo magician is a side project I did years before EWP, I have bought it back to life a few months ago so I’m giving it a little air time on the footer. It is a separate product with its own website. No up sell in EWP. Both totally independent.
  12. No add-ins, don’t know where you got that from.
  13. Hi folks, Just a regular monthly update to EWP. I have another series of new stuff and fixes. I will post them on here later for you to see what might impact yourselves or be of benefit. I have also changed the website slightly so that you can use the "ISSUE/FEATURE TRACKER" to submit bugs and feature requests, and if you submit and receive an error, dont worry, it will have still be submitted. If you have any requests please post them on there or here on this thread. Likewise with bugs/issues/advice etc.... If you and/or your exam officer could also promote the use of EWP via your social media channels it will help me a great deal spreading the word... Use the #ExamWritePad on twitter and other platforms. Best Regards Andy
  14. Great thanks!! [emoji1303]
  15. Thanks, This is default in the script. Only a few minutes ago I had an email from Papercut support to say that it is an issue they are now investigating and a fix will come in time...
  16. Hi all, I have a papercut script that redirects large print jobs to another printer. It works to a printer ok but we what to redirect it to the virtual followme printer where it will hold the job for release. Problem is that when the print job is redirected to the FollowMe it doesn’t hold and sends it out to a random MFP that are selected as release stations for the FollowMe. Is there a way to keep it head on redirection? Thanks
  17. Just been to see it tonight and I loved it and so did my kids... can’t wait for the second instalment!!
  18. We are still using them too.... the only thing we had to really do was a few GPO changes and replace the StartMenu with OpenShell...
  19. Hi all, Do you have/or have had issues where students are logged in, launch Sibelius and forget to log off or locks the workstation and another student comes along and also fires up Sibelius, thus taking up a second license and also with USB keyboards attached, they get a memory issue in Sibelius. Who have you overcome this?? The simplest answer to me is remove the ability to lock or switch user on the Music PCs. Any other thoughts?? Thanks..
  20. Sims have no plans as yet to support sql server 2019, they are still in the process of optimising queries for sql 2016. I think sql 2019 support may come in 2021 but may be by then sims will be fully online [emoji1787][emoji1787]
  21. Sims is not supported on 2019 server until the spring update.
  22. I knew someone would want a config option to surprise successOk messages :-) There is only about 127 config options, another one can’t hurt [emoji1787][emoji1787][emoji1787]
  23. Quick poll to see what people think.... Do you think EWP should show message boxes: On errors only On success only On both My own personal opinion is I think indicators on success prohibit the flow, in the sense of its an extra button to click to continue. And only errors need a visual presence/indicator. Do you agree?
  24. Version 3.7.5.0 is now live to download or update through the software itself - enjoy!! https://sheldnet.co.uk/examwritepad/?page_id=46 The release notes have already been posted in a previous post but they are included in the documentation. along with all the other stuff
  25. Ok, last minute NEW addition, is the ability to load the JSON config file from a custom location path. So you can now dish out shortcut icons to specific users which calls upon a custom JSON config file. You can even rename the JSON config file too. EWP is the project that just keeps on giving :-)
