oops well I guess you can't protect them fully! Does anyone know how to change the search engine in the google admin console for a user? I found the safe search and a whole lot of other settings but nothing on the search engine. I can change it at the Chromebook end but the kids can just change it back!

I understand that kids should be taught how to use google safely but that is out of my hands. I will look into safe.duckduckgo.com thanks for that! I also read good and bad about kiddle but we might give that a go. We have LGFL web filtering in place. They offered to turn on the severe restricted network but I yet to read about that and I think that would be over the top. Thank you anyway!

Hi everyone. Can someone recommend a search engine for primary school children? We have been using Google but its just not safe enough. Currently pupils are only using chromebooks so I would like to change google chrome’s search engine. Thank you

Good morning everyone. Has anyone experienced bsod while browsing on Google Chrome? I’m having this issue in 4 different schools now. When I run the whocrushed it program it reports that it is Sophos Central what causing the issue. I contacted them already but I have to do more troubleshooting for them before they can help. It is not everyone who experiencing this but I find it odd that in 4 different schools I have the exact same issue! The only thing that changed since last term is that we upgraded everyone to Windows 10. Some has the Education version while others got the Pro version. See attached pictures for more details.

Thanks for the posts. We are on LGFL so rav3 via the website and I have also tried Cisco Anyconnect VPN. The rav3 drop the user out, the VPN one log the user in but not all of the data loaded. Although sometimes it does. I thought it was the profile so I redone the profile but after it was still not loading properly. When I contacted LGFL they said roughly this you are trying to access domain based resources outside of the network, but having the internal network resolvable in the real-world, so outside the VPN is a real domain. If I query it, it fails, which would give you the symptoms you are detailing. Using a real-world domain as an internal domain is considered bad practice and all domains should end with .internal or local, or even start with that so its considered the global domain of internal.domainname, essentially DNS and resolution of names internally should never conflict with the outside world, in this instance it can do and would cause problems. I think I just need to rename the domain and it would be fine. We have other school whose internal domain do end with .local and have no problems what so ever.

Windows Server 2019

Hi. I’m having issues searching for files in the documents folder under any user. The server was changed recently and since that this issue has occurred. The users have roaming profiles and folder redirection setup. When the user goes to the document folder and search for something most of the times Windows just says no items found. If it finds some files it is not all of them. If the user goes to Computer\H drive which is their personal mapped drive and search there all the files come up. I have tried various computers now and get the same results so I’m sure it is something to do with the server and the folder redirection. I’m the one who set it up and the folder redirection does work so Im not sure what to look for. Thanks

Thanks. I would rather not mention the school but the AD domain name is the schoolname.boroughname.sch.uk. So this could be changed to internal.schoolname.boroughname.sch.uk but don't know the step and also how risky is it? Thanks

Hi We are having major issues with users unable to remote into their computers from outside of the school.I contacted our network provider who has pointed out that the school’s domain name is a real domain which ends with sch.uk. This is the reason users dropping out of sessions when they remote in. They said an internal domain should end with .local or something like that.Now, how easy is to rename the domain? The school is very small only about 12 computers and users. The server runs on Windows Server 2019 and it is the main server. Runs GPO, DC, AD, DHCP and file server. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Hi there. Thanks for you reply. I read the topic, good and bad so I'm more confused,lol Its a small nursery school with 25 computers/laptops and about 28 users. The server is a DC, DHCP server, Group policy,File server and runs the cloud backup software. We are presenting different options to the school, the best would be to buy a new one but as we are presenting options I have to include this one if it works. The server only has Windows Server 2012 R2 drivers available on the website and nothing newer so this would be a temporary solutions anyway.

I have a server that runs on Windows Server 2008 R2 which is due to expire in 2020.How straight forward is to upgrade the server to Windows Server 2012 R2?Can I try and run the upgrade to see whether it will be able to install the software? Will I able to cancel it? Or is there a test tool I can use for this?This server is the only server in the school so everything runs on it.Thanks

Morning everyone.I have tried all of the suggestions: Can I ping the laptop when is on the logon screen? No I cannot.The dns is schoolname.local what do you mean by the full domain? There was another wireless card update that was just released recently. Unfortunately, it made no difference.I have also tried the switch to let windows control the wireless but that made no difference either.I checked the DHCP and we have enough leases, and the laptop is listed with its correct IP address.This summer we are moving to Window 10 edu so I might just try to wipe and put that on it and see what happens!Thanks anyway!

Thank you, I will give that program a go. By googling 'rdbss.sys' and 'ntoskrnl.exe' it seems that it could be various things. Would you know what to look for first or I just have to go through them all? Thank you

Thanks Ditto, we have other dell laptop models that behaves fine. There was an intel wireless program that was controlling the wifi which I turned off but made no difference! It seems that the wireless only starts working after the user have logged in. That is the issue! Anyway I yet to find a solution! Thanks

Hi everyone. I have a Dell optiplex 990 machine with SSD and windows 7 pro 64 bit installed and it is giving me blue screens. I have updated all the drivers. Hi. Thank you for the replies. I can login locally and the wireless is fine. I can ping the server from the laptop and the laptop from the server too. I logged into the domain by using the network cable, after I unplugged the network cable and I could access shared drives and the internet via the wireless. After this I logged out and back again to the same user . It lets me in but the user have been logged in with a temp account message pops up. Network drives are have red crosses but when I click on them I can access the files on the shares. I can also use the internet.

Good morning. I have a dell latitude 3470 laptop with Win 7 Pro installed and joined to a domain.When I try to login I get the there are currently no logon servers available to service the logon request.Usually I just remove the device from the domain and rejoin but that does not work.If I use a network cable the user can login fine. The problem only occurs if I try to login on the wifi.I have already updated the wifi driver, also manually typed in the dns server in the network settings, deleted the device from AD and rejoined, renamed the laptop but none these made any difference.Any ideas?Thank you

I managed to fix it by following the suggestion in this thread http://www.edugeek.net/forums/windows-7/175467-user-profile-service-service-failed-logon.html If you can, login as an admin, go into c:\users\ Unhide the folders if you can’t see ‘Default’ Right click ‘Default’, click properties, click ‘Security’ tab. Click ‘Advanced’ then click ‘change permissions’ Put a tick in “Replace all child object permissions with inheritable permissions from this object” Then click ‘apply’ Thanks for your help anyway!
