  1. The download links no longer work once signed in as a customer and their main UK number advertised on the site no longer works!?! Have they gone under?
  2. The setting you want to enable to prevent the first time run pop up is: Admin Templates > Windows Components > Internet Explorer : "Prevent performance of first time run customised settings" > Enable (Once you have imported the IE8 ADM file) Hope that helps
  3. Group Policy loop back processing on the GPO locking down your Citrix servers is what you need here.
  4. Ok thats great - thanks Nile for this. Pete, you know you can get the Smoothwall to remove all comments on Youtube videos if they are tripping the block page ? Think you find it under Content security filters.
  5. Did the OP try Niles suggestion? Does it work as that is awesome if it does.. nice one.
  6. I have never bought a geniune toner for our 50 + network printers, new or old. £100+ for a genuine HP max capacity toner for a big printer such as the one we have in Admin, or £29 for a compatible that will do the same page count. I have never had a problem with them, but then the company we get them from are very good.
  7. Ive done this using the autonomous Cisco APs rather than with a controller and Windows IAS / Radius on our domain controllers using certificates. Works well apart from when a laptops system clock goes miles off skew for some reason and invalidates the certificate! I used the Microsoft documentation for Protected EAP but this was all written for Server 2003.
  8. I agree, Sam Learning has been absolutely crawling since the start of Sept .. IE8 on our terminal servers it crashes the browser completely or if your lucky hangs for 30 seconds and then seems to load up. On other browsers I have seen a delay of about 10 seconds when your trying to type in your username and password, its a bit of a nightmare for us in support! Its crawling right now by the looks of things.. why use https for the whole site?!? I have sent them emails about this but they don't seem to be fixing it quickly..
  9. Piqueaboo - Why mention firewall rules when you are the whole point of VLANs is regarding whats going on inside your LAN (esp for a school) ? ipsec is a whole different ball game and is not relevant to why you should and shouldn't use vlans. In what day and age was it wise to use them!? Our L3 switches provide all the syslogs you could possibly dream of it thats your thing (overload comes to mind!) Yes L2 switches provide VLAN support but I think you will be hard pushed to find a entry level L3 switch that does not offer any form of broadcast "helper-address" support for DHCP etc. Two quick examples of why to use other than creating lots of subnets with blue and pink boxes 1) large network > 500 hosts.. broadcast hell... faulty nic on a host flooding the system? good luck..! 2) - Try creating something such as a "untrusted" / open wireless system for kids to connect to using mobiles / laptops etc and you want to give them access to 1 thing .. the internet whilst still maintaining your secure lan services from the same APs. How else are you going to support that without VLANs (with ACLs) ? Id love to know if theres a better solution Ashok - surely your LEA / Provider can give you any IP range it wants at the end of the day but that doesn't restrict what you can and can't do behind it. You can have however many networks and hosts on a completely different class if you want with just a single device such as a proxy, router, firewall interface or L3 switch (whatever really!) on the same subnet that they assign you just to get out to the big wide world. You can likewise map any inbound traffic to a specific ip on their range to anything on your other network address scheme and no ones the wiser.. ..well thats what I do anyway
  10. we have over 20 vlans across our Cisco kit - servers, switches, printers, wireless (management), and each IT room / dept in own vlan. Each wireless ssid in own vlan also. Then theres ACLs controlling what can flow between each..
  11. I use Tricerat Simplify Printing for our TS farm. IF you group your thin client rooms by ip range then you can easily assign different network printers to different rooms.
  12. You had a look at 2x thinclientserver? That what I've used to convert old pcs to thin clients..worked really well here. Maybe thats not what you need - got to be honest I got bored reading the sales pitch! ^^^
  13. Why the desire for roaming profiles?!? I'm missing something here as thats the last thing I would want the students to have.. especially on the thin clients!
  14. I've got a the Citrix web ICA client running on our Windows 2003 Terminal servers and it runs fine.
  15. Hi I have been following the wiki "Sims and Moogle Integration" http://www.edugeek.net/wiki/index.php/SIMS_and_Moodle_Integration I have imported all of our UPNs into AD using another method mentioned in the wiki but am really struggling with creating the "VIEW" in SQL in section titled "Pull Course Info out of Sims" I have gone into the SQL Management Studio and expanded Views > New View but am absolutely clueless about what to do next? Tried pasting in the code at the bottom of the Wiki into the query box but it refuses to save. Any help would be really appreciated. Thanks
  16. Worked a treat - thanks again
  17. Thanks very much I'll give that a go.
  18. I will admit I am a complete linux numpty but have downloaded a copy of a Moodle vmware appliance from moodle.org and it comes all preconfigured on Centos 5 OS. Got the server up and running and moodle is working fine but I need to give our web designer access into the Moodle directory on the linux server from her windows xp workstation. I have been trying and failing to share it with Samba - one of the main problems being that I cannot add a samba user... fill in all the details and click ok and the user list remains blank.. I have joined the server to the domain and can query the list of users on our domain with the command wbinfo -u To join it to the domain I used this excellent step by step guide for novices like myself Active Directory Integration with Samba for RHEL/CentOS 5 | Linux Mail Server Setup and Howto Guide Any ideas or should I just give up and try and install it on Windows!?
  19. I have port security enabled on our Cisco switches for nearly all network outlets.. so they can try and patch in an unauthorised laptop but the switch port will shut down. On the wireless side creating a seperate vlan & ssid for untrusted machines will solve any security issues you have as you can (providing you have the switches to do it) just setup some ACLS permitting exactly what traffic is allowed to flow from the untrust vlan to the network. I just allow: dhcp, dns and tcp port 8080 ONLY going to the proxies ip address - everything else is dropped / denied.
  20. Im presuming because if they use a local login account for use away from the network it will delete all of their saved documents / pictures / music etc ?
  21. I got our licenses from Axxess Systems Axess Systems - The UK’s leading independent supplier of Server Based Computing and Virtualisation solutions I would stay clear of version 6 of ThinClientServer though and stick to either 4 or 5 until the bugs are ironed out!
  22. Just installed FP2 - thought initially it had killed my Smoothwall! Went to the server and the hard drive light was on solid chugging away after the reboot so waited ten mins and it came back online. Report function does look much better Going to look into the SSL enhancements tomorrow.
  23. I dont think you'll find what your after to be honest. You need a wireless lan controller to do that kind of thing, i.e control it centrally. Cisco autonomous / fat aps can be managed centrally with their Network Assistant software but I still log into each individually as you get far more options / control.
  24. Ipmonitor from Solarwinds
  25. You haven't said what your thin clients are connecting to. Terminal services? (2003 / 08?) Citrix?
