  1. Should be fine on the way into London, but with South West trains it could mean you'll find it interesting to leave London! What time is your train from London? This is South West's statement:
  2. What Server OS are you using?
  3. As long as the Apple Server.app has the FQDN set in the Hostname section, when you apply your profiles to it, it will look for it wherever it is using the FQDN, as @Marci mentioned :-)
  4. hertsdirect.org Read magazines online EDIT: Damn, beaten to it!
  5. +1 for Reflector, I prefer it to Air Server personally.
  6. You can change the settings on CCC to either store it in an archive or delete it when it doesn't detect it in the source. Really CCC is more for backup than syncing. After a quick google, https://decimus.net/Synk/livesync.html seems a lot more like what you want Tom
  7. Carbon Copy Cloner can be used to sync only specific files and folders, bare in mind though unless run manually, it can only be scheduled for every hour, which means is your Bursar quickly saves something on his iMac to go to a meeting, it won't be copied over immediately.
  8. Include me! xD
  9. Synology DS112J 1 Bay All In One NAS Server SATA HDD 2.5"/3.5" 2xUSB 2.0 Gigabi | eBay type thing?

Time Machine backup i'm guessing hasn't been created? Only other suggestion I have is to create a new user account through Terminal (if you can, should be able to with sudo) and transfer things over manually, How to Add a User From Terminal Mac OS X Screen Sharing | Chron.com is what I found. EDIT: Parental controls might be a reason, I should really stop overlooking the simple answers. Didn't think you could set Parental Controls on an admin account though.
  11. Zoostorm Desktop PC - Desktops | Ebuyer.com is just from a quick look about online. Doe's it have to be brand new, or could it be refurbished? Toshiba Satellite Pro C50-A-166 Laptop is what I found on the same site for 15" laptops.

Stupid question, but did you restart afterwards?
  13. Could you make something in Access using a CMS-type template? Then use the serial number that the card reader picks up to search?
  14. Obviously, if the teacher decides to shut down their Mac for lunch or the end of the day, your server is also down. I've had it where people have restarted their macs because it's 'running slow'. Obviously if you have a suite of 16, that's 16 that then lose their connection to the shares, and I've found OS X actually completely freezes when it loses connection to Open Directory (the example being at a company using OD only, might be different when using magic triangle). If I was in your situation, I would go for the dedicated server. No one will go and turn it off after they have used it and will obviously be out of the touch of students & teachers, plus it would work well if you do expand, a teacher iMac, although they are pretty powerful as they are, running both the teachers applications and also serving 16+ other macs.
  15. Is there any true need for upgrading to Lion? In my opinion, it's really not the best Server version Apple has come out with, I prefer SL. But that's just my opinion

  18. Has anyone had to do this test before? If so, have you got any tips? Applied for the BBC technical apprenticeship, have been asked to do this test. I've done the practice ones but struggling to get above 3 ('Average') out of 5, and seeing as there is only 27 spaces on the apprenticeship and it seems over 200 applicants, I wanna get as high of a score as possible, but some of the questions baffle me, and it's only the practice test. Thanks, Tom
  19. For such a small deployment, if you have a Mac handy, Apple Configurator is probably your best option.
  20. Do you image your Macs? I believe that you could set this up in the master image, meaning you wouldn't need to manually do it through AS.
  21. Upgraded both my Macbook Air and Macbook Pro and they are working fine, however my Mac Mini Server isn't liking it, Profile Manager (which is switched off with no devices enrolled) seems to be running and taking up a massive chunk of the CPU, which makes it VERY noisy at times, but since I have done a clean install of Mavericks, it's worked like a dream.
  22. Seems fine to me.
  23. Automatically add network home folder to sidebar on a Mac - Spiceworks seems to be a good resource for a step-by-step method.
  24. GO 4 Schools
  25. I personally use DeployStudio for deployment, as I believe it is provides everything I need for deployment for free, maybe not a feature rich as JAMF, but for free, who can complain? For that sort of money, I would rather go with a Mac Server (At the moment, it is only the Mac Mini Server on sale, as the Pro is yet to be released) and link that up to your AD.
