Finally got this resolved this morning - was hoping Logic Pro would automatically update, but it wouldn't. So, dragging Logic Pro to the Trash Can and then in InTune forcing the Mac the Sync got it to re-install Logic with Version 12.0.1 and the issue is now resolved. Pete
-
So there is an update that now fixes this issue: Logic Pro for Mac release notes - Apple Support However, not sure how I can get our Mac to update. It's showing an Update in the App Store, but doesn't allow it to download with any account as it's managed by InTune. I'm hoping it's just a case of leaving it and it'll update itself in the background. Pete
-
Saw that too, but as soon as I did a sign on (thinking this might be the issue initially) it then just broke. What to do ? Is it worth uninstalling it and seeing if InTune will reinstall and resolve the issue ? Pete
-
Just came on here to look for a solution myself as I too have experienced this issue with Logic Pro. Our setup however is the Mac is on Intune. Thought it might be the VPP token or something had expired, but it all checks out. Even updated the Mac to the latest version. So, Apple have stuffed it and we've got to wait for a fix ? We now only have the one mac in the school, as our Music department insists on their technician using Apple and Logic when no one else does. Bonkers. Pete

My only advice from the 3D Printer we have here, is that if you have SD Card only and your Windows devices incorporate Bitlocker-to-go - then you'll need to think of another way of getting the data file onto the SD Card. We have ours on the Wi-Fi, but then the issue becomes that normal PCs on the network are ACL'd from contacting the Wi-Fi Devices, so we have one specific macine that is used from printing that 'sits' on the Wi-Fi network (VLAN) but is hardwired. Ideally, a 3D Printer with NIC Card would be my ideal solution - almost treat it like a printer.... well, I guess it is... ! Pete

I've done them as in place upgrades, with the exception of DCs. Though I had some issues with the following: - SMTP relay stopped working but this was sort of expected as I know it broke on a 2019 > 2022 upgrade. It forced me to look at alternative ways for us to deal with this. - Local Certificate Authority Server - just all dissappeared when I did the in place upgrade. Should have looked into it a bit more first, that you really need to export the the config and import that it a freshly built server for CA's. Doh! Thankfully, did a snapshot beforehand and managed to roll back with no issues. Pete

Radius Authentication (NPS) and Cambium Just Stopped Working
FragglePete replied to FragglePete's topic in Wireless Networks
Don't believe it is - I'm not touching 2025 as a DC, but every thing else I've upgraded to 2025 without any major issues until this. I know of two other schools that have hit this issue but I'm not really finding much about it as a known issue overall. Some obscure AI generated response from Google hint at know issues but I can't find anything too concrete. It did lead me down the rabbit hole that this may be the 'strengthening' of how certificates are presented to the DC but it's not really making much sense and has got me concerned that we may need to come up with another way if this a change by Microsoft and not just a crappy update. Radius Authentication (NPS) and Cambium Just Stopped Working
FragglePete replied to FragglePete's topic in Wireless Networks
Well, blow me down with a Microsoft Update! Removing this update has resulted in quieter logs and would appear no issues connecting with the devices I've tested so far. So, again, thanks @andyfield for the heads up. This is now has me concerned.... was this a flawed update that will be fixed in a later update? Or is this tightening down of the RADIUS process to push users towards a better/secure method? Still need to be able to update a server after all! Pete -

Yes - the entire chain is valid. Thanks to @andyfield - that is very interesting about the update and I'm going to visit that now. Pete -
Radius Authentication (NPS) and Cambium Just Stopped Working
FragglePete replied to FragglePete's topic in Wireless Networks
Just to add - digging deeper, also noticing an error: Might be more of a server issue as a whole which is a little worrying! Although, not since I've re-issued the Certificate. Pete -
Hi all, bit of a bind trying to figure this issue out since this morning. We have a NPS server running on Server 2025 which authenticates our BYOD users via our Cambium Wi-Fi Network and this has been running without any issues for the past few years since it was setup and configured by Redway Networks. I only need to renew the GoDaddy certificate installed on it every year, update the config with the New Cert and then it hums along quite happily. The system as a whole works well and have been really happy with it - nearly 100 APs dotted around the site. Mid morning today, we get reports of BYOD Users, Students and Staff not being able to connect to the Wi-Fi using their AD Credentials. Sure enough, my own mobile once I disconnect and try reconnecting won't play ball. Event logs are showing Nothing has changed on the config, but some guides point to re-issuing the certificate may help. So, I re-key the server certificate and get the new certificate installed and apply this to the NPS Server (Protected EAP Constraints) and it does appear to resolve the issue..... or so I thought. My phone, being an Android connects quite happily and so do others, but iPhones do NOT. Also notice my Intune Laptop running Windows 11 also refuses to connect to the BYOD network with my credentials. Needless to say, our Sixth Form students are getting impatient of not having Wi-Fi but I'm not sure what to do next? EAPHost log shows errors: I fear my Google Fu is leading me down all sorts of rabbit holes, and wondering if something that Microsoft and Apple have 'switched off' at a specific point that now refuses to work with these devices? (eg. Should be set up with EAP-TLS and not just EAP??? But, don't want to jump to conclusions on that one just yet). Appreciate any help to get resolved quickly to stop my phone ringing. TIA Pete
-
I'll just throw this into the ring..... Cambium... ! Pricing very similar to UniFi, free cloud management and has support available if need be. Redway Networks did our configuration and we haven't looked back. 93 APs around our site with no real issues at all now. My only complaint, getting more info on who, what, where and when requires paid licensing to Cambium X. But, we're managing as is for now. Pete

At what time of the year did you move to Arbor?
FragglePete replied to Sonic007's topic in MIS Systems
We did ours over the Christmas break, just seemed the quietest time in the school calendar with nothing major going on and then have everything setup to use in Exams, etc in the New Year. However, timing was key - as obviously being Christmas and getting all the third parties lined up was the tricky part with them shutting down; things like cashless catering and wonde was the main worry. You had to book well in advance for some and even then they wouldn't allow you to book a slot until the was fully complete. I was 'transferring' our data to Arbor on the Friday afternoon last day of term when all staff where enjoying the Christmas festivities before they went home. Staff came in the New Year on a new system and generally it went very well - but you really need your key data players involved from the very start. Pete -
I believe it's part of what Cory Doctorow calls Enshitification. Worth a read (or listen too), https://amzn.eu/d/cKBFC42 and details how tech companies make a great product, burn the initial VC Capital and in stages make the product worst, and worst for the end user. It's aimed really at 'big tech', but lets fact it, we're seeing a steadily decline of what were once decent products in Education. Usually when the original developer sells up (laughs all the way to the bank in the process), and the company taking it over asset strips it, invest in no development or just cuts so many costs it becomes essentially...... sh1t! Not wanting to go off topic from this post, but the book really shines the light on some serious dodgy tactics from the likes of Apple, Microsoft, Amazon, etc..... ! Pete

I've done one of these recently - very similar to my daughters laptop (Dell Inspiron) that initially had the hinge come away from the top shell (common issue) - me trying to fix it ending up cracking the screen. But, those metal edge brackets are definately held on with a strip of double sided tape so I'm surprised your heat gun has not been able to loosen it off. Pete

We've recently obtained laptops for staff from Deane Computer Solutions. They get a lot Dell Outlet Stuff and their mailshots usually have some good deals on the go. Just had one if for Dell Latitude 5250 2 in 1, i5, 16Gb, 512Gb NVMe, 3Yr On-Site, £495+VAT. I've had Servers from them before in the past. However, have recently got hold of some VeryPC Thinbooks 14" which seem quite decent that we have a 'pool' devices for Staff - quite nice. Only confusing element is the power button is on the side which has caught a lot of people out! Pete

I too have experienced this. And I even had a very frank conversation with a rep from the hardware manufacturer who admitted the whole process is a bit shaky legally. It's apparently to protect the company that may have done the leg work in winning you over as a customer and to then stop you getting a cheaper price from another company who has done nothing. On another occasion, when purchasing a single Interactive Screen when the price was an absolute steal following a mailshot, and I then found out that future purchases from that company have jacked up the prices massively and locked us in with them. Thankfully, managed to get that reversed to our original supplier and got decent pricing again. You do have to fight it though. It makes a mockery of our policies that we have to get three quotes when over a certain amount. Pete

I'm sure this has been covered many times before. You've got Locker and Salamander, and to be honest they are good as each other. I can only comment on Locker, but I like to see what it's doing and Locker has a GUI that allows you do this and do some of the setup / customisation yourself. I can also comment on their excellent support which would normally get back to me within an hour or two, and this was still very much the case during the early September period. Salamandar I know are very good, and highly rated but I understand that your at their mercy to get the slightest of tweaks done. More of a black box, which may be the set and forget that your after. I use a Carplay unit with my Motorcycle and use Android Car Play to display the maps on it. Either Google Maps or Sygic - you have to pay £20 a year for Sygic as it locally stores the maps on the device and you can search offline, whereas Google Maps you need a connection to search for a location even with the maps downloaded. Useful when your up some remote Welsh Mountain Pass..... Yes, it does drain the battery, more so if I'm playing music to my headphones - which, let's face it, it's doing a lot..... GPS, WiFi & Bluetooth Connection to the Unit and Bluetooth connection to my headset - not surprising really. My phone is a Google Pixel 9 and the battery is pretty good on it and I can usually do a good day's ride but I top it up with an external battery pack when I'm taking a break, etc. Could in theory have it plugged into the bike via USB, but I don't trust any motorcycle mount and it's good practice to have the phone on your person rather than attached to the bike. I don't like charging it in my pocket as I have damaged USB ports in the past by doing this, but will put in my topbox connected to a battery pack if I feel it's getting too low for comfort. When using it in my car, on a long run I'll have it plugged it with no major issues but I do use a higher output USB accessory connector (fast charge) as the standard USB port doesn't give enough juice when connected via USB while navigating. I looked at PowerBI to make a few dashboards. Quite liked what I could do but then saw the licensing requirements! Sheesh. Yes, it'll soon add up. Ended up just creating my own from Arbor Live Feeds into JSON files, sprinkled with a bit of ChatGPT magic and an internal IIS PHP Server and have my own set of Dashboards. I fully appreciate it won't be as clever a PowerBI but it's good enough for what we need. Quite horrified (in a good way) how quick ChatGPT produced these for me and even got it to cache the data locally so we're not hitting the Arbor servers constantly. Still a work in progress, but feedback from SMT and Staff has been good so far and I'm adding new charts daily based on Reports I'm generating in Arbor. Pete

Coronavirus: General discussion (see opening post for rules)
FragglePete replied to Dos_Box's topic in General Chat
Used to get free Flu jabs here where I work, but because of budget constraints these are no longer being offered. Short sighted in my opinion if you end up taking a week off because you get the Flu. Was one of the few 'perks' we had here, but most of these having been removed to save some cash. Pete -
Need to rant; let off steam a bit. As much as we love Arbor, their recent maintenance windows have been happening from 8pm in the evenings, some later, but in the last week, two have started from 8pm. This is the time when a lot of students are trying to access and submit assigments, and parents are trying to check balances, child's homework, etc. As a result, our inbox is filling up with irate parents about Arbor logging them out, not being able to access the platform, etc and students visiting our office this morning saying they can't access Arbor as it's forgotten their password! Our morning is now spent dealing with parent's responses and dealing with students over this. Pete

We have overall control of the accounts, but do very little in the way of content. Other staff members do all that. Will do the occasional update on request though. Pete

Impero Extension in Chrome
FragglePete replied to Jawloms's topic in Network and Classroom Management
I just had it on my radar to do over the Summer, so made a point of contacting them and getting the newer version released to us and went from there. Once I was happy it was all up and running, we then started the process of allowing all our Chromebooks to update to the latest ChromeOS they would go to. Pete
