Good thing that whoever started the petition understands the difference between persecution and prosecution...

Holidays - Can you take them during term time?

@Abcos: you already started two rant threads about it, keep it there please. -
Works fine for me..

1+2: use sysprep and the mini-setup wizard will do this; 3: pre-stage your active directory accounts, and when you join the domain you will join that account 4: if you've done the above, you won't need an additional reboot

Ack. It's a question of honour.

That's a really good video, nice balance between technical and abstract details without being boring about it.

oops, that's why I should have been in bed I meant to say that 2003 can't manage the new features directly.

I have it running at work in a 2003 domain. All the old group policy functionality is fine, but you won't be able to use any of the new features or templates - only those that you normally apply to XP. It works fine though as a machine.

OEM licenses can't be transferred between physical machines.

You need a device called a switch (this ubiquitous 'ethernet splitter'), and some ethernet cables (don't buy them from Staples..) Plug the whole lot in together and away you go. Next time please start a new thread.

Year 7 have a set project to create a film for incoming year 6, and work with the Flip cameras and Magix Movie Edit Pro.

You (that is, the school) are responsible for whatever happens on the line by any user; There's a good chance that subletting the line contravenes your contract with your ISP, which could result in you being cut off; You need some legal framework for recovering damages by people plugging in stupid things, like forcing a wrong plug into the socket, sending high voltages down to switch equipment, etc; It will inevitably cost you in support time and so on, and if one teacher can have it so should the others ( > more support costs); She'll be connected to the main school network so even if she gets her own VLAN there is a data protection consideration.

Eclipse.net, which has its niggles (like new year stuff) but is generally pretty sound.

Skip? you know about the WEEE directives, don't you? just checking Ours go to a charity in Salford who pick them up and distribute them appropriately, sometimes to rural schools here and sometimes other countries (Africa this year, I believe).

Getting around a proxy via a shared hosted php website
powdarrmonkey replied to rocknrollstar's topic in Web Development
There are plenty of pre-built scripts that will do this for you, but you'll have to look for them yourself, sorry. Generally they work exactly as you describe (it's pretty trivial rewriting of URLs on the fly, that's all). -
I have this problem but because we work in batches, I just weed out the duplicates. If you solve it, I'd be interested to know how - PM me if you don't mind. Thanks.

Why does everyone but me press C + A + D to lock workstation!
powdarrmonkey replied to googlemad's topic in General Chat
Because that's what they've learned, and it works for them and they're happy with it. It's really not such a big deal, surely? Be grateful they've learned to lock it at all -
As that's 30m, like I originally estimated, yes.

Recommend me a network cable installation tool
powdarrmonkey replied to MattCowen's topic in Wireless Networks
Coat hangers. (no, seriously - they're thin, pliable and easily bound to cable ends.) -
3,200 by my calculations.

Make a power user an administrator on single machine
powdarrmonkey replied to rocknrollstar's topic in Windows
Forget group policy, it's overkill. Just use the computer management administrative tool on the local machine to add the user to the right group. (If you're doing this for 200 machines, by all means use GP, but it's a waste for just one.) Edit: in fact, the method in post #2 will do this for all machines, not the single one you want. -
I think by now he's either done it or given up

I'm amazed by this amp and speaker set
powdarrmonkey replied to maniac's topic in AV and Multimedia Related
We've just had some similar ones fitted in our new building, but as we don't start client fit-out until next week I haven't had chance to try them. They're certainly much neater than traditional wall-mounts though; there's a mini-jack in on the trunking and from there on everything is hidden.
