Looks like a good task for a Kell Systems Server Cabinet. I think their website is: Kell Systems. They look preety good, are virtually silent when the doors are shut, have good ventilation/fans and cable mangement. I would imagine that something like this under a bench of the ICT suite would be suitable for you. I suppose it still doesn't solve the flooding risk should the cabinet be placed on the ground floor though... I don't know your budget but I would think that some of the suppliers on here could advise you on somthing similar to this. Ross

Thanks for that. I suppose another answer would be "it depends" - certainly on who the user is, how much power you entrust in them, and what they actually need the computer for. For example, a student may only need access to generic software (Word, Excel, and Publisher) and applications specific to their studies (Photoshop for Art/Graphics, AutoCAD for Design Technology) - they certainly do not need the ability to change the desktop background or cursor symbol. A teacher or member of the school's support staff will have differing needs and wants. A teacher may need access to electronic registration software as well as email and calendar software (think Outlook, while a bursar may want financial planning tools. I understand there is a little differing opinions on the whole "does excessive use of Group policy slow down logons" but I think the consensus would be to configure Group Policy settings in line with what the end users actually need to achieve when using the computers - restrict them to the bare minimum to do their job. Hi Everybody, Just a quick question on the topic of Group Policy. Is it better, when creating Group Policies, to simply prevent access to the Control Panel OR to individually lockdown each group policy item? For example, referring to the screenshot below, would it be better to set "Prohibit selection of visual style font size" and "Prevent changing window colour and appearance" and "Prevent changing colour scheme" ect... OR to simply bar access to the Control Panel? http://img10.imageshack.us/img10/3062/captures.jpg My thoughts are that users could find ways to change computer settings without using the Control Panel. On the other hand, does setting many Group Policy items slow down logons? Maybe just the first time after a change is made then the GP is cached locally? Actually, scratch what I said above; I have re-read your post and you do state you have checked all permissions. Sorry! Anyway, can you access \\servername\work$\%username%, after you have logged in, manually? Of course substituting the username in. Can you copy the event viewer error? Sorry if you have checked this, it isn't totally clear in your post, but have you checked the Share permissions as well as the NTFS? I am sure you know already: the share permissions work in conjunction with the NTFS permissions on a sort of "least access wins". For example, if the user only has read share permissions no amount of tweaking the NTFS permissions will allow write access. Could you post any screenshots of the permission windows that you have set? Regards, Ross Wilson

In that case they may also not allow you to modify any of PHP's settings through the .htaccess file. I have come across hosts like this; I had to contact their technical support team to resolve the issue. EDIT: This could mean that your settings aren't being applied. Can you create a phpinfo() file and see what the max file upload sizes are? Simply create a .php text file with the following contents: phpinfo(); ?> Regards, Ross Wilson

I know this thread is a little old, but just for anybody else who is experiencing this problem; this is what worked for me: Remove the ".lnk" file type from the list of filtered extensions. I have found a screenshot that shows where this can be done. Please find it attached.

Hi, Can anybody tell me how I could go about configuring VLANs for a HP Procurve network but in a centralized way? After doing a bit of research I have found that on Cisco devices I can use Cisco's proprietary protocol called "VLAN Trunking Protocol". This is effectively a central database where I can configure all my VLANS which all the devices on the network refer to. I was hoping that there was a similar feature on Procurve kit; I'd rather not go round each switch/router and configure my VLANS individually . Hi, Why not look at CrossLoop (http://www.crossloop.com)? It is slightly different to what you wanted; the client requesting support has to download a small client (could be hosted on your website though) but said client removes itself after you have finished. I have used it with friends and family and it saves a lot of time! Ross Wilson

Hehe Yes I have a HP Photosmart C6180 here that has a IEC "kettle lead" of about 15 inches, which goes into a power brick, then a long cable into the printer. I had the same thoughts as you when I opened the box to find this cable.

I think that this would be a great idea. I find it annoying that a whole room will be left on at times yet only a handful of students are using the computers. It would certainly save having to search through VNC and shutdown manually. Could we possibly combine JJonas suggestion with this and have a rule where computers that have been sat at the login screen for more than 5 minutes shutdown?

Joking aside I do understand that you have just made the site, and the errors in question are just little bugs. I've had a search using tineye.com (a great site by the way; you supply an image and it will search the internet for similar copies) and found MANY lookalikes but not the same one as yours (yours has no moon).
