Ok so that TAP documentation may reference things that may change prior to everyone else getting it? Looking at the mail part for instance, there is a "Differences" table that tells us the various education 'bolt-ons' like closed campus etc. do not migrate. Personally I wouldn't miss those somewhat 'rigid' abstract transport rules, but I suppose they could be there when we migrate?

Why are the MS defaults still DHCP:8 days, and 7 days for the refresh intervals though? I'm convinced both intervals should be smaller than the lease. Not sure about the scavenging interval here i.e. how frequently to scavenge DNS. Personally I hate scavenging because it's a serious kludge, and at this kind of turnover might consider: a) Getting DHCP to register and delete all the DNS records, b) Do something else to clean out the dynamic-registered DNS records overnight (you can make clever scripts etc. to do that). I'm also wondering how much of an effect this has on AD size: Does it get big (if so how much bigger) because there are lots and lots of deleted/tombstoned DNS records hanging around?

It's not that confusing in a business-like context if you run Windows on one of those screens and remote desktop anywhere because one remote pixel = one local pixel and is very tiny. I suppose you could start making the remote side bigger, but then it's too big on the console or RDP from lower res screens. Or maybe just change the local res to blurry before you RDP anywhere.

Naah.. Petter's CD should get you into AD Restore mode. All you need to do then is persuade something running under the SYSTEM account to run a net.exe command or similar... there are a variety of ways kicking around on the net e.g. petri.co.il has stuff on this, there are videos on youtube etc.

Do you already have OLSync? If not some folk around here have some decent experience on installing and using (it's not trivial to sort out).

Pragmatically, the previously published staff charges was a serious problem that would have stopped plenty of (honest) schools using the non-email features. Yes, it's part of the December 2011 update.. which had been renamed to the January 2012 update by the time a notification was sent to a tenancy where I'm a contact, and was arguably a March 2012 update. There hasn't been time for much 'community' experience to take hold: Sender Photo is part of the Service Update that hasn't been applied to all tenancies yet e.g. I saw my very first tenancy with that 14.16 update apparently done yesterday, and there's a definite hole where the documentation for some new features should sit. Was the days of Gopher, Cello, or reading Usenet (a *full* usenet feed from Pipex fit down that 64Kb line for a while, then MP3 happened) etc. Remember going to Cern with a web browser once, because there just weren't that many places to go that weren't RFCs or some student mug-shot plus text about their course + hobbies. Arcade: Ready Player 1; have small scars on the third knuckle of the middle finger of my Joystick hand (mostly Defender's fault); folk allegedly being able to jam fingers in the coin reject hole/slot and flick a penny up it so it would fall down the other 'valid 10 pence' way and give you a credit; hours of playing then lots of suiciding in Asteroids to get the max score before it wrapped round to zero; Tempest sucking me in and scrambling my brain; BattleZone always beating me in no time at all. Spectrum: Manic Miner, Jet Set.., Knight Lore, Underwurlde for which I very prettily drew a big complete map (still have it) for some mag competition I didn't win; hacking the silly s/w protection double speed loader thingies without the aid of gadgets so I could make a normal tape that would load more reliably as opposed to pirate it; Forth; Z80 assembly and fun with those alternate registers. Lemmings is installed on my home PC now and is one of Sprogette's favourites (gets my vote given it's brain engaging 'puzzly' nature).

Bit crocky. XP is Very Bad since 2009 because of what exactly? There isn't anything much wrong that wasn't wrong in RTM with XP *today* (I only moved to Win7 recently because it was preinstalled on new h/w).

Archive? If it's mail from an external source it's normally arriving via SMTP and an SMTP OnArrival event sink is the obvious choice surely? As above I have made them for other scenarios and :checks API:: you can rewrite envelope receipients.

Exchange 2003 you can make an SMTP event sink (ISMTPOnArrival) with VBS or JS. Haven't made one for this kind of scenario, but I expect you can check the mail sender and if it matches "someone's" address, change the recipient to a specific mailbox

Perhaps it's all different now but I think the problem is "on-site mailbox". MailUser = Has mail properties but no mailbox. Mailbox = Has mail properties and a local mailbox. I think UserA needs to be a MailUser which for the purposes of this scenario is effectively a fancy forwarding rule. The trick is getting the forwarding, the [email protected]>[email protected] bit, sorted out via the proxyAddresses property of that MailUser. Don't know if there's a way in the GUI because I've only done shared address in powershell via new-mailuser, set-mailuser etc..

I like minimalism (see sig) but it's got to be the right kind, preferably the type that mininimises: a) effort in doing things I do a lot (see also: RSI), b) having to remember what I've got running where[1] , c) a discomfort that's much like moving between a normal and a large print book, d) the number of things off screen over on the right somewhere. Not that anyone in their right mind will want this and don't tell Arthur, but there's a Luddite start menu recipe here - I just tried the vistart one and didn't have the overlap problem, don't know why not. [1] Run a couple of desktop apps, maximise one, start a couple of metro apps, then go figure out what is what in the metro 'taskbar' assuming they haven't gone black for whatever reason they sometimes do that.

What's the filtering system? Something that does Windows integrated authentication (ISA did, TMG likely does) in order to let a user's traffic out should be able to log and thus tell you which user etc.
