Is there any real difference between using the CC3 SP3 package (DWN1544594) and doing a vanilla WinXP SP3 install on the workstations and Smart Client'ing them into RM?

Hi I'm looking into applying the RM CC3 Win XP SP3 Update ASAP so we can move ahead with the SIMS Spring 2011 update. Am I right in thinking you first run the update on the servers (I can restore from tape if it breaks the servers) and then I tell it which machines want SP3 rather than it applying it automatically out to everything? One or two dead machines are easier to fix than 300 Thanks in advance,

I started at this school since September and in the first holiday applied three years worth of updates to the system. The problem is for every one thing I fix/update/patch/install two things break! The Senior Leadership Team want the Spring 2011 so they can do the May returns but don't want to make any changes to the RM system.

We've got an RM CC3 network that's still only on SP2. Going vanilla over the summer so wondering if there's any point risking RMs SP3 update in the mean time.

Yes, apologies - it's a bad example (While the FX1500 is a CAD\CAM card (it was pulled out of a Sun workstation) the NVS series seems to be marketed as multi-monitor cards) Anyhow, for general use do you normally just look at GPU speed and memory size?

Hi Everybody! Because of SIMS Discover we've been discussing graphics cards and I was wondering how do people compare cards? For a real-world example: We've got two dual-DVI, 256MB PCI-E Nvidia Quadro cards: an NVS 290 and an older FX 1500. One side is saying the NVS 290 is the better card as it has a newer, faster GPU & DirectX10 support but the other side is the FX 1500 has better & faster memory, better Fillrates and higher Bus Width & Bandwidth. Video is a bad example as thin clients generally don't excel at multi-media applications. What are you wanting to use them for?

Hi Everybody Does anyone know if it's possible to 'Team' Adaptec SATA RAID cards? We have a server with a AAR-1430 card running a four-disk RAID10, which is very nearly full. Rather than replace the disks with bigger ones I was wondering if it's possible to chuck in another card with another four disks and add those disks to the existing array? Thanks in advance

Hi everyone We've got PXE booting set up for use with Ghost. Everything has been working fine but now we've noticed that HPs are not booting. They pick up the info from DHCP but don't respond to f12 (but the computer beeps if you keep mashing f12). I've tried DC7600 (Broadcom NetXtreme), DC7700 (Intel 82566DM) & 530 laptops (Intel PRO/100 VE), all having the latest BIOS and network drivers. A Dell 330 (Broadcom 5787) and an Intel Atom Mini-ITX (Realtek RTL8102E) work fine. Any thoughts? Geoff

How many Us is the space? eBay might be an idea. Get a small second hand server.

I take an image of the system before I sysprep it. That way if (when!) sysprep kills it I don't have to do a full install.

I had the same thing. Ran Sysprep again and all is well.

Ask your LEA what they recommend.
