We have big problems with playing DVD's on teachers computers and generally have the odd problem playing videos from the internet. What I'm after is a more robust method for playing ANY type of media. We have tried the usual media player, VLE, etc. What I would like is maybe a corporate media player to play dvd's etc. I don't mind paying for a media server and software (as long as its not too expensive). Hi We have recently rolled sims out to every class with electronic registration. I have imposed a 5 minute screen lock - which does not please everyone, but hey ho! Also, I have told staff if they leave their machine unlocked when they leave the room - I DISABLE THEIR NETWORK ACCOUNT - simple. Now everyone dislikes me but if kids did mess with sims, who spends the next few weeks establishing whats been changed - me and my technicians. Do what you feel is right, it's probably the most important area of your network, the sensitive data in sims. We had a school nearby where kids had been going into sims for months - what a huge problem - nightmare!

I have just changed one of the channels from 11 to 6 and the dmb has gone to +30. Is this making any sense??

What would you expect it to be. The laptop was directly next to the access point

Hi, we are using Zyxel wireless switches with access points (dumb) which is a complete managed wireless system we put in earlier this year. We have recently realised that some of the access points need to be moved as they have a range of about 120 degrees. What I want to know from some wireless experts out there is what the following screen grabs mean. I have used Network stumbler and inSSIDer to monitor the same access point at the same time. Do these images look ok? The network stumbler program shows the access point in green then a few seconds later in yellow (is this ok). I am no expert in wireless (obviously) and just want to know what these readings mean. Many thanks Karl screen grabs.doc

We are looking into buying 'eco' computers from Stone. Their claims seem pretty good, i.e. energy consumption etc etc. Does anybody have any information on their claims. Also, are there any GOOD alternative suppliers with low energy consumption machines. Especially these days with utility bills so high. Many thanks

Hi After a few DNS/DHCP problems, I need to find a course to unravels the mysteries of these areas. We are running 2003 so wondering if there was a MS course designed for this area. Or whether these are incorporated into a generic Server 2003 course. Many thanks

Many thanks I thought it maybe something like this. I guess I am moving that way as I want to get rid of our CSE management system and have control of my policies, etc. Too many problems, would love to go back to a simple (ish) system without too much interference. Thanks once again.

Our Dns server (which runs our curriculum application) will not resolve its own domain name. You can resolve google, my pc etc. But when I perform nslookup ?????? I get the following error: unknown can't find 10.98.etc.etc : Non-Existent Domain Therefore our CSE workspace explorere (like RM's connect) aplication will not work and I am left with a dead network - please help

Just copied the SQl database to my machine, copied the whole sims directory (from s drive) to my machine also. Changed the connect.ini to point to my sql instance. But when I try and log into it I get the following error. "Sims connection failed for Login XXXX, reason:0" Anybody tell me what I've done wrong. I'm doing this because I want a Test environment for staff members to get used to lesson monitor (rolling it out next term). Any help would be hugely appreciated

This guy knows exactly how we perform backups, how long we keep them for, where we keep the tapes. He knows we keep pupil data for 5 years after they have left. Believe me, this person is clued up!

But he has copied EVERYTHING! Not just work within his curriculum, but all curriculum subjects. He has not indicated what he will do with the data, how long he will keep it for, what he is going to do in terms of safeguarding the information - nothing! I find this quite irresponsible, especially when he can login remotely and see this data anyway.

Just found out that the head of one of our departments has just purchased 2 external hard drives and just copied all the entire year 11 data to them. One for him and his sidekick. A couple of points: A) Is this legal (re DPA)? B) Even though some of these year 11 would have never been in his subject area for a GCSE, can he still do this (providing point A is legal in the first place)? C) He claims he is just having a copy of it, even though he knows we have a full backup and we always copy year 11 data to an external drive and put it in a safe. There are a few more questions but I'm that annoyed I can't be bothered to write any more questions. I have just found out. Our network allows teachers to view pupil areas so any teacher can do this if they chose. Where do I stand on this? Any help would be hugely appreciated

Hi Is there a way in policies to redirect a webpage, for example. If a kid opens google, the page automatically redirects to another page. Is this possible?

Hi I have a couple of Konica Minolta 2590mf printers (for the ICT staff) so they can scan documents in to the network. I also have pcounter on so I can monitor teacher printouts. Unfortunately they have found that if they just use the copy button, this does not get picked up by pcounter. What teachers should do is if they have any copy requirements they should go to the reprographics department. I have told them it comes out of my budegt but they ignore me. Is there a way of disabling the copy feature on these printers. Many thanks

Just rolling out some new HP desktop's and they are not picking up some policies. Mainly the proxy settings and the homepage. The machines are in the correct groups within active directory and should be picking up the same policies as all the other machines on the network. Anyone got any ideas, would be hegely appreciated. Thanks
