Hi all, Bit of an odd one here. We're recently had a media server setup that allows us to stream live TV channels over the network via multicasting. Over the wired infrastructure it works fine, it also works fine over the Wi-Fi too (albeit slow in places). I'm coming up against an odd problem on one particular model of laptop, it's an HP Probook 6560b. For some reason the wireless interface isn't sending a join request to the multicast group, therefore no streamed TV. The wireless adapter used it a Broadcom 4313GN, I have the latest driver installed. I'll admit that the whole troubleshooting of multicasting isn't my 'bag', but I've managed to stumble my way through the majority so far. I wondered if there was anyone that could offer any suggestions. Like I said earlier, I have managed to track join messages via Wireshark and filtering on IGMP traffic for wired, wireless is just a no go for some reason. Though annoyingly the laptop at the side of me, a Dell Vostro 3560 works absolutely fine.

Well, this was a massive pain in the backside for us. It's used by around 120 students here. I operated on the same basis as Zedster1974 and their option 3. Got the appinventor-emulator-data file and ran the below on all machines (64bit machines, though you could run an if not exist statement if you have a mixed environment) del "C:\Program Files (x86)\AppInventor\commands-for-Appinventor\extras\Appinventor-emulator-data" /Q xcopy "C:\Support\Appinventor-emulator-data" "C:\Program Files (x86)\AppInventor\commands-for-Appinventor\extras" /Y /C /I /H /R Obviously C:\Support is a folder on the local machine where the file was copied to. I then just went onto the Users drive on our server and removed all traces of .appinventor folders. The next time the users logged in, it downloaded the latest version and they weren't prompted for an update. Seems ridiculous that you'd put out a 2.2 update but not include the companion with it. Truly bizarre.

I personally use a PAC file. Specify our local network, if you're not on it then straight out to the Internet. You just need to store the PAC file somewhere on the user's laptop (We have a C:\Support folder) and then use a GPO to set the path.

I take it you just copied the local ADMX to the SYSVOL store?

I'd imagine that ADM will be for a Windows Server 2003 environment that can't read ADMX but has clients with IE11 installed. Can you not just download IE11 on your Windows 7 device and then copy the inetres.admx from your local %windir%\policydefinitions up to SYSVOL PolicyDefinitions?

Are you unable to just select one large pool that covers all sites rather than each site individually?

We use a Proxy pac file, specified in a GPO. Uses the IP address of the machine, if it's a school IP then apply proxy, if it isn't, then remove it. No user intervention, can also applies exceptions etc..

We have around 15 Apple TVs. We ended up just assigning static IPs and then entering that range into the Lightspeed Rocket with a default rule set.

Apologies, I didn't mean to sound so abrupt. I personally would remove the sleep button and set them to sleep after a period of inactivity. I'd be interested to know the issues with Impero as it is a big feature here too.

Why don't you remove the sleep button too for students?

I think you can only set a default save location in the ADMX files. Do you want to restrict USB drives all together?

If you're default action for SRP is unrestricted, then yes, they won't become effective until selected to disallowed. To block executables here, I have disallowed the U:\ drive (H:\ in your case) as well as %HOMESHARE% and %HOMEPATH%

As themightymrp says, are you using cached network profiles? We only allow local profiles on staff laptops and stop changes propagating to the server. Avoids unnecessary attempts to connect to the server outside of school.

We had that problem with the desktops. What I ended up doing was capturing the preferences for Reason, Sibelius and Cubase; storing them on the C:\ drive, then creating a GPO for that OU and running it in Loopback mode - Merge. Then on the user settings running a login script that copies these preferences to the users app data. That way it only applies in those rooms. If you want any info on the robocopy, drop me a line.

We redirect our My Documents to %HOMESHARE%%HOMEPATH% which is essentially \\SERVER\Student$\YearGroup\User. All the rest, Music, Pictures, Videos etc.. are set to follow My Documents. For our desktop and start menu we redirect them to a local drive on the machine. We run a start up script that uses robocopy to mirror a network share of folder redirection shortcuts. Have you got the GPO setting "Always wait for the network at computer startup and logon" enabled? This will wait for the network card to be full initialised before any user can logon. It certainly helped us when we had such problems with folder redirection not applying correctly. Our students don't use any form of profile, I really don't see the benefit in them having one. The only additional settings we have for wireless GPOs are the actual wireless config settings and a few settings for lid actions and what to do when the battery reaches a certain level.

This is because the Internet Explorer Maintenance settings have been removed from IE10, they aren't even processed. Microsoft are wanting us to move to the GPPs to manage our Internet Options. As w-clarke101 says, you'll need a Win2k12 server with Group Policy Management installed to manage them. Had the same issue here, ended up rolling back to IE9 temporarily until we had time to upgrade one of the servers.

I've had Karen call me this morning to confirm the order and to attempt to send onto my home address. As I refused to give my home details out, she cancelled the order. Shame.

Disgraceful that they are still getting away with these things. I'll let you know if anything arrives through the post, this could be interesting...

I've just had Paul from Global Imperial Solutions on the phone. I'm looking forward to the £50 worth of M&S vouchers being sent to me, and the toner (minus the order number). I also got the same rubbish about 'Any holidays planned?', 'What hours do you work?', 'Anyone in at your school over half term / Christmas?', 'What's your home address so I can send the vouchers?' etc... They could sound quite convincing to people not used to dealing with sales calls, especially when they say things such as 'Since your order with us before Christmas' - When we have a managed printing solution.

We solved this by upgrading all the firmware on our access points. Random that it just stopped working, having worked fine for the past so many years.

Hi Steve, Thanks for your reply. Yes, we've even reset the network settings to clear everything. This is the point where it throws up the error message, when we try to put in the password.

Hi guys, Got a bit of a weird one here over the last week or so. Our iPads are no longer connecting to the wireless network, which is a standard 64 bit WEP encryption key (I know we shouldn't be using WEP, but it's what I have inherited, we're in the process of moving over to new wireless infrastructure). The error message we're getting is, as in the title, 'unable to join network (SSID)'. What I have found out is that we can get them connected on an access point which uses WPA2 - I'm just unsure why they have stopped working. Yes, the simple answer would be to just get the new APs up and running, but that isn't for a couple of weeks yet. Our iPads are on iOS5 currently if that is any help. All Windows based machines are working off the WEP encryption fine.

Just an update on this fellas, it appears that it works just fine in IE8, but not IE9. The only way I could get it to work in IE9 was to remove my virtual adapters.

There is always that solution, it's more a point of trying to get to the bottom of why these couple of laptops don't seem to want to work consistently like the others.

Good evening all, First of all, may I say what a great resource this site is. I've found many a resolution on here, it's usually my first port of call for any technical problems. Onto the problem; As a School I have configured a Proxy .Pac file for staff laptop users so they don't have to go through the mundane tasks of turning the proxy on and off depending which location they are - home or school. I have tested this on numerous laptops which seems to work great, apart from a few Windows 7 machines, specifically HP Probooks 6560b. I have the Pac file running from the local drive, currently set to http://file://C:\Support\Proxy.pac - as I said this works brilliantly for the majority, and does work for all staff in school. As soon as the users with Probooks take their laptops home it doesn's seem to work; I did a bit of research on this and found if you enter in a full stop after the file:// protocol (file://.C:\Support\Proxy.Pac) then it will work from home. This kind of defeats the object of the Pac file if they have to enter in a full stop to make it work at home. I'm just wondering if someone has come across this problem before, or if anyone has any suggestions as to why this is? May I also point out that all staff laptops receive the same GPOs. I look forward to a response, and hopefully contributing to resolutions for others.
