I shouldn't win as I do not have a PC at home and my work machine would not support one. Saying that it would be nice to win something for once, well twice. I did win one thing in the past 4 decades and that was quite recent. "When you're hot, you're hot" So you never know.

I would not give it more vCPUs. It would make it worse. In fact having 8 will most likely not be helping either. Setting an amount does not mean that it has exclusive access itself, so it could also be slowing down other guests on the host as well on top of performing badly. I would be tempted to reduce that and perhaps if you are using Hyper-V it might be worth setting the resource control relative weight too. I would definitely follow advice with regards to running the re-index patch. Might be worth setting up a maintenance plan to reindex and update statistics as well. There is a pdf guide, just google Sims maintenance plan and you should find it. Also make sure you have a max memory limit set as that can cause the issue as well. I would start with the reindex and memory limit and see if that makes a difference first, especially if it has been working ok up to now.

There is a portal to see client deployment info for ESafe, they just don't seem to tell anyone. Be worth asking them for access, although it doesn't tell you much, at least you can see where it's installed and what version of the client it's running or not running...

Essentially you have to at least retain an on premises exchange server to manage the objects where the source of authority is your AD, but you can remove the hybrid configuration. Using exchange for management is the only supported method at the moment I believe (As long as the exchange server does not have any mailboxes on it, there is a free license available for it).

+1 for Inventry, we've used it here for a couple of years, now and the system just seems to work. Haven't had to deal with support, so i can't comment on that side of things.

As a side note if you did go with a hybrid deployment and at a later stage wanted to decommission the on premises exchange, but still use AD Sync and require and instance of exchange to manage email attributes, you should be able to run an instance of exchange without requiring the license for it as far as I've been told by MS. It would probably be best to contact O365 Support about it so you have it in writing, but that's the information I received recently when I queried it.

We're not in the region, but i thought I'd comment. We configured a hybrid exchange a few years ago setup AD synchronisation, which has worked really well and started migrating mailboxes over in stages. All of our mailboxes are hosted in Exchange online now and we only use an exchange instance on premises to manage email attributes etc. We preferred the hybrid option at the time we were doing it, but there are a couple of ways of doing it: https://support.office.com/en-ie/article/ways-to-migrate-multiple-email-accounts-to-office-365-0a4913fe-60fb-498f-9155-a86516418842 We've since started to roll out the use of OneDrive for staff and students and plan to move most of our end user storage that way, reducing the need for both on premises storage and remote access to our on premises storage. We're also making use of Sites to replace our existing on premises SharePoint and using Teams. We're using Salamander to do most of the hard work and that seems to be working well. We're just testing at the moment, but getting some good feedback from departments, especially around OneNote notebooks and audio feedback etc. We'll hopefully be using Skype for Business to replace our aging phone system as well soon. One consideration for the hybrid configuration, which has actually come up on another thread recently is that once it's done, you will always need a way of managing your users email attributes on premises, whether that's with an installation of exchange or ADSIEdit or a 3rd party tool, the 2 latter options are unsupported. For us everything so far has been a very positive experience and we do get good feedback around it. Broadband is a consideration, but these days i wouldn't imagine that would be an issue, but it is something to look at before moving services externally. Not necessarily the bandwidth, but the resilience. If you have any questions about anything I'd be happy to help if i can.

Regardless of whether you have an exchange server or not, if it was setup as a hybrid configuration you will need a way to manage accounts in Office 365, unless you no longer have a requirement for synchronisation? Have a look at this: https://blogs.technet.microsoft.com/exchange/2012/12/05/decommissioning-your-exchange-2010-servers-in-a-hybrid-deployment/ It's one of the things I got pointed towards when spoke with O365 support about decommissioning and removing the hybrid configuration etc. The long and short of it is that you wouldn't need to virtualise your current exchange server (900gb), as long as you had an instance of Exchange with the CAS role, it doesn't even need hybrid configuration, but you do need something to manage the Exchange online accounts if you are synchronising from AD as the source of authority is on-prem.

Once you remove the hybrid configuration you only need exchange on premises to manage email attributes of users/groups etc. Strictly speaking you don't need an on premises installation of Exchange at that point, you can use ADSIEdit or 3rd party apps to do it, they're just unsupported. I think i remember reading that with the Office 365 subscription you have on-premises exchange rights, but cannot host mailboxes etc. so you can have an installation of exchange for the management side at no cost (don't quote me on that, but it would be worth checking that it is the case still with O365 support). If you haven't got to pay for a license i would be inclined to keep an on premises installation of Exchange for management rather than relying on unsupported options. Even if you have, other than ADSIEdit the 3rd party options probably aren't any more cost effective.

I like the look of the 3380 that you mentioned. It's what we're looking at for students here.

Yes, first thing i'd do is get access keys for all of the exam boards you use. Exams officer will know which ones are needed and should have all the logins to the appropriate portals to obtain those keys. Once you install the software, you'll need to point to various input/output folders on the Sims drive and setup the access keys, but it's pretty straight forward.

We've used Virgin Media for a few years now since moving from our LA. 200mb primary line with 100mb backup. We've had no problems with them at all. Very happy with the service we've received.

We are in a similar situation. As far as I'm aware that article is still correct. I assume eventually you will need to upgrade for new functionality or when 2013 is no longer supported. We haven't upgraded ours yet, still running 2013. In all honesty we probably won't upgrade until one of those two is true.

We've been using TASC for a while now. We've had no problems with it at all. Support is responsive for any queries. It's a product that just seems to work and do what you expect, which makes a nice change.

When you look at the mailbox on your on prem exchange does it show as an Office 365 mailbox or an on prem mailbox? You might have an on prem mailbox and an Office 365 mailbox. If it is that you'd need to remove the users Exchange Online license in Office 365 and then migrate the on prem mailbox over, before enabling the license for them again.

Certain switches do have a depth of over 17". Ours are 17.7" or 450mm, so a 450mm cab wouldn't be enough. You need to check the model of the switches you're having and look at the dimensions. We have 600mm depth cabs throughout the site to cater for the size plus the power lead and patch leads with enough room to comfortably close the cab. You would need to evaluate how far they protrude if they are at a lowish level as we had a game with health and safety and had to have quite a lot of power etc. moved and the cabs up higher. If it's in a classroom i probably wouldn't have black again, we've changed a lot of ours to a grey. The only ones we could get 7 years ago were black, but they really stand out in a room.

You can yes. Looking at that one you just need a 1gb SX SFP. If you search for the extreme part number you'll probably see alternative options anyway. In the past we've had alternative manufacturers optics, sometimes refurbed items as well and never had any issues. You might just want to check your warranty on the kit and whether using other optics would give you any issues with that side of things.
