Pygame installation blocked by proxy server
NotSoFast replied to cheaptonersucks's topic in Educational Software
I've tried it a few times and never had much luck. It's not something I'd want to rely on (Pygame in replit, not replit itself).- 13 replies

I argued for a few months, but to no avail. I fully expect us to have to migrate again when the tanker turns.

Never heard of Weduc, but I will look. At first glance it seems to just be a parent app, but I always appreciate new leads!

Yes. We have used Progresso for several years (moved from Facility and ePortal) but most schools in our trust are using SIMS, so we have to join them. We have been with the trust for a couple of years, but our Progresso contract runs out in Jan 2022. We don't have a choice about moving to SIMS, but we can choose to buy additional systems.

I know, the first question will be "why?!" We have to, as part of standardising on a single MIS across our trust. We are moving from Progresso, and will have hosted SIMS. I've been looking at ways we can soften the blow for staff, meaning that things like taking a register, viewing contact info, adding a behaviour event and writing reports can all continue to be done through a simple web interface. The goal is that perhaps only the cover person and the data manager ever need to fire up SIMS. For parents, the Progresso Portal has been pretty good, but the experience on mobile is poor and I hoped we could upgrade to a decent native app. We currently use 4Matrix for assessment analysis so could continue with that. I've looked briefly at Class Charts, but it doesn't do the report writing (or much analysis, as far as I can see). Edulink One looks great and would also cover lots of other systems we have, but there is no behaviour or attendance analysis so heads of year, heads of department and SLT would still need to access some kind of report in SIMS to get overview data (or use another product). Go4Schools is expensive, but covers most of the bases. The interface is cluttered, in my view, and the product is still focused on assessment analysis and "feeding the data machine" - we only do 2 data drops a year. The apps get awful reviews and the parent web view doesn't seem to cover as much as Edulink One. In short, I think it does the job but doesn't move us forward or save us money. So, my question is what others would recommend. I'd love to hear that we can create dashboards/scheduled email reports in SIMS that will satisfy HODs/HOYs/SLT, or that there is another (cheap) product I can mix with Edulink One to do the behaviour/attendance analysis. I'd be interested in whether Power BI is a realistic solution here - I've never used it but do know Google Data Studio. Or maybe there is another solution I haven't seen...

Yodeck on a Pi would be a set and forget solution and is free for one device.

We used Chromex last year for mocks and it worked really well. It is also dirt cheap and they only charge you in months when you use it. Not bothering this year as assessments will just be in lessons, but we'll go back to it next year.

Well, it's back. For the record, I tried: Press Alt+SPACE to bring up the system menu (you won't see it because it is off screen) Press R to select the "Restore" menu choice to ensure the windows isn't maximized (you cannot move it if it is maximized) Press Alt+SPACE again, then M to select the "Move" menu choice. Press one of the arrow keys to initiate the movement. Now just use the mouse to place the window where you want. and it worked.

As above. I'm pretty sure I had this issue last year (the last time I had to use Facility!) but for the life of me I can't remember the solution and it's not in my old posts. We have Progresso and use Facility Admin to process the students' GCSE option choices. From the Visual Control Path (under Option Bands) I click "Examine fit of students" and nothing happens, other than the Visual Control Path window losing focus. For some reason it worked for a few minutes earlier today, but has now gone again. I've tried ALT-TAB, escape, hunting around for a tiny window, removing my second monitor, but I'm stuck. Help!

COVID Self Testing Kit - Reporting Back
NotSoFast replied to Manny-Tech's topic in How do you do....it?
Has anyone else had problems with the bulk uploading of registrations? Ours seems to upload with no errors but the registrations don't get added. EDIT: by trial and error we found a problem row. All the rest uploaded fine. We typed the row in with no copy/paste and it uploaded fine. Still don't know what was wrong with it though... -
How long did children spend on Google Classroom
NotSoFast replied to Renfield-64's topic in Virtual Learning Platforms
I've done this with GAM, but it isn't something you can do retrospectively because the value available to the API is classroomLastInteractionTime, so you have to pull it on a regular basis. I have it running as a scheduled task updating a Google sheet. The sheet matches it to the date and creates a register. Form/Database to record Covid Testing
NotSoFast replied to Wirral_Wonderer's topic in How do you do....it?
Is this what I think it is? ie bulk upload test results in a spreadsheet? -
I'm using GAM to pull the last login time to classroom each day and pop it into a spreadsheet. I still need to automate it to append the new data neatly, but I'm nearly there. It's obviously only a low bar, but we're going to count logging into Classroom as "engagement with home learning".

We went with the ipevo 4k for all rooms, replacing a few hues we already had. The ipevos are definitely worth the extra in my view.

Parent's Evening Software? What're you using that works well?
NotSoFast replied to pete's topic in How do you do....it?
Might it be worth getting visualisers rather than webcams so you get two for the price of one? We're really pleased with our ipevo 4k units. -
Use GAM.

Is the goal to create a system where staff can see what happens to subject and whole school P8 scores when they change the individual grades of certain students, so that departments can target students for intervention who will have the biggest impact on headline figures? If so, I wonder if you could just duplicate the series then give heads of department access to edit their copy? I can't remember if you can give users different access to different series. I do worry that there are so many factors at play in the P8 model that this kind of what if analysis is unlikely to be worth the time it takes.

We found it cheaper to have our old tube reconditioned than getting a new machine or a new tube. Hasn't seen much action as it was done just before lockdown, but when tested in March it was back to factory power.

I would definitely call the helpdesk.

It dies in July.

Wish I'd seen this a couple of weeks ago. Could have been quite useful.... [emoji3526]

Don't you still get the massive watermark even if you sign in? (Unless you buy a new licence for v19). We have v11 with our current boards.
-
Don't think so, because I'm pretty sure we're going to need to add mobility print in summer to address the end of cloud print. I can't remember exactly what we see, but I'm almost certain it's our available network printers (ie Papercut, save to pdf etc). I'm not a techie, just a teacher. [emoji6]
