  1. I want to set up a custom AD task pad view so that i can give ICT dept staff a custom MMC so they can just reset passwords for kids. I have a OU which contains separate OU's with all the year groups which all contain the relevant kids. I want the staff just to have a custom MMC so they only see the top level Student OU and all the other OU's inside. I would liek to be able to let them change password and nothing else. I have tried this but it does not seem to work how i want it. I only get permissions to set the reset password if i pick on a particular year group OU, if i try it at the top level OU i don't get the reset password option. Anyone help?
  2. I want to give staff access tot student home directories as more and more staff want to mark work electronically. I want ot set the permissions with cacls. Now.........my current scripts give staff modify on all the student home directory. I want to limit this to just files and not Folders, sub folders and files. First off if i set it for just files does this mean they can only edit files and not folders? Also if i set it to just files does it mean files in the whole of the student home directory or just in the root of the it? Also what command would i use with cacls? I use STAFF:Ccurrently but how would i set his for just files only?
  3. Time to upgrade one of the servers at a school i go to. I was wondering what peoples thoughts are on having home areas on a DC? I have seen several schools and some have them on a DC and others on a member server. I was wondering if there is any MS recommendations or what other users think?
  4. I find this as well.................................!
  5. I hope we are never in a position to have to pay for Edugeek................... but imust admit the help I've had on here is blooming fantastic.
  6. I've had Exchange 2003 on a DC for years. It was forced on us because it was the only hardware we had at the time. But according to Microsoft you should not install it on a DC. Its the same for 2007, they recommend you do not install it on a DC again. But this time its more important. If you install Exchnage 2007 on a member server you are no longer able to promote it to a DC. Likewise if it is already a DC you will not be able to demote it.
  7. Why not? We've had no problem by putting XP Pro on.
  8. Synetrics.................. God help you.
  9. Exactly the same from my experience as well.

  11. One of the teachers has asked if they can have Goole Picasa2 on certain computers in the school. I downloaded this and it is a .exe file not a msi. Does anyoen else use this and deployed it? Is there any restrictions on using this in school?
  12. Exactly what we did to get rid of the problem.
  13. One of our staff is using a oldish version of Boardworks. When she opens PowerPoint files with embedded flash it comes up with the foll lowing error. "Some controls on the presentation cannot be activated." I think they may have installed the latest flash player release at home. I know the player version is 7 on the boardworks cd but we always put 9.0 on all our images. It was working last week which sort of points to the new version of Flash causing the problem. Anyone have any idea?
  14. I like th esound of this, could you explain in a little more detail?
  15. Its onboard, I dont have any spare cards to try
  16. Still no joy with this, I installed Server 2000 on it and it worked fine, I then chose the upgrade path to 2003 install and away it went. It gets to around 34 minutes and the screen goes off. I can't get my head around it.
  17. Well, I have recently installed a 64bit server 2003 in another school and the code i used for the install worked for the r2 disc 2 . Slighty off topic, if you install R2 first and i correct in thinking that until you update the schema the R2 features wont work ? If so i need to go back and update the schema........................!
  18. I have install server 2003 std onto new dell server via the ell server install procedure. The disk is a Volume Lisence Edition. I added the serial code to te dell wizard and it all installed fine. Now when i come to use the second disk which has the R2 features and upgrade on it asks for a serial code again which i belive is common practice, but it wont accept the code at all. So yes the code worked for the original install using disk 1 but now wont accept the code for disc 2 I can't get my head around it.
  19. I am thinking of trying out Exchange 2007. I have the eval 64bit 120 day eval copy. I wondered if this is just a case of putting a code in after the 120 day or is it a curt down version. I was thinking of installing it from this disc with the Hope of just purchasing a license code before the 120 days is up.
  20. I still can't seem to get this to work. The desktop is sett to strech the picture as some staff have widescreen laptops and some don't.
  21. I have tried to install Server 2003 R2 from disc 1. I have used the HP SmartCD to boot the server and to get it to run the OS install. It gets to around 34 minutes remaining and then the display goes off. It seems to be running the install(but i can't see) and if i cold reboot it it just starts the install off again. I had this before with a older server that had came in with Server 2000 on and when we tried to flatten it and put 2003 on we had the same problem. It appeared to be the AGP driver windows tries to install wont work. We had to install 2000 to get it to work and then upgrade it to 2003. I don't really want to be doing this so has anyone else got any ideas?
  22. Oh and it works in Firefox so its obviously a IE 7 problem.
  23. All the options you suggested are in place. When the page loads i see the java emblem, it looks like its loading the java based exercise and then you just get a white square. If you click or press space bar to activate the control nothing happens.
  24. I have a school that has recently had new computers. They have come to use Sam Learnign for th e first time on them and where the questions should be they get a blank white/grey area. I instantly thought it was becasue Java was not installed but it is. The only thing differnet is that these computers have IE 7 on. Doeas anyoen know of any issues with Sam Learning and IE7 or any other option i have to try and solve this?
