There is also the Google Apps Message Encryption (GAME) service, which is also a paid add-on: https://support.google.com/a/answer/6105277?hl=en

Chromebook screen monitoring system advice/help...
CyberNerd replied to Zezima's topic in New Project Ideas
I'm not sure what you would gain from this. (Almost) all the work is online and it is easy to force students to connect via an authenticated proxy. The proxy records usernames and sites visited. A copy of word processed and email work is stored in Vault. What additional information will you get from screenshots ? -
To be fair they are not designed as multiple user devices, I don't think Google's product designers were being unreasonable. Having multiple untrusted users is a niche environment and not exactly recommended.

GCHQ/NSA wiretap all the fibre between here and the states anyway: They can get at the data before it even leaves the EU. https://theintercept.com/2015/09/25/gchq-radio-porn-spies-track-web-users-online-identities/

We have over 150 ios devices on the network and are heavy GAFE users. These are all BYOD though and as you say they are designed for single user. If you want multi user then get chromebooks, many of which are tablet too.

Treating the symptom, not the cause.

The best solution that we found was to make the room a permanent base for a teacher. If one person is nominally responsible for a room, and they check it regularly, they start getting annoyed when other teachers let it get trashed. This puts pressure on other staff to make sure the room is looked after. It worked well for us, the only rooms that get trashed are ones where a teacher isn't based and nobody takes responsibility for it.

The plus side to this as more schools leave, the load will lower and the speed will increase :-)

I guess that isn't your call then. We found the money because the loss to teaching and learning was too great. Internet vs a HLTA / couple of TLA stages / half an SLT member. Different schools have different priorities.

probably the "radio parentbeacon never" thing in the Meru document I posted

I'm surprised you guys have lasted this long. Our head wouldn't (and didn't) stand for that sort of service.

If we are talking staff shares rather than homedrives then you can do it on a single PC and then share with the relevant department. Setup eg. "English, maths, science" accounts, log in and sync them. Then share with the relevant groups, delete the old share and replace it with an URL link to the new shared "drive"

I also found this field notice:iOS9_Workaround_and_Support_Notification-(3).pdf

The last software maintenance release was 15th August, but you should still get software support until Feb 2016 - depends on your contract though! There is a field notice in your support portal about it.
-
yes they are still supported

What sort of auth methods do you use? I couldn't get anywhere with 802.1x and transparent proxies. The multicast looks the easier part, and Cisco have some good documentation here: Chromecast Deployment Guide, Release 7.6 - Cisco

They work well on Chromebooks, it is Enterprise Wifi and proxy's which appear to be the issue.

Citrix / Remote desktop options
CyberNerd replied to Novalee's topic in Thin Client and Virtual Machines
I just want to add a con: Citrix are constantly titting around with their terminology, GUI and licensing. It drives me insane; relearning everything for each release! Other than that, and the price, you can't beat it. I would say, with the client, it is best to stick to a single client if you can as it helps staff use the same procedure on different devices. we used to use server side java in the days before ipad (now depreciated) but yesterday they released server side HTML5 client 1.8 with SDK. The Chrome client (HTML5) is rather good too: just publish it in your chrome store and release it pre-configured to your users when they login. -
I use a touchscreen Chromebook (tablet thing) a lot of the time, always weird going back to non-touch.

Citrix / Remote desktop options

Citrix is still best of breed, but you will need a significant budget. Advantages: Diskless servers (and single image to deploy to servers), HTML5 client supports pretty much ANY home device you could throw at it, unbelievably easy to deploy the client to BYOD, HDX compression (tiny bandwidth, good quality video/audio), Netscaler, monitoring options. -
I don't think that is a user setting, I think it is a chrome thing.

We use teachers and good classroom management - YMMV.
