I'm seriously considering pulling out of the LGPS. There is already bitter resentment towards public sector workers and the mystical "Gold plated" pension. Don't have the figures to hand but I believe the public sector pension liability is nigh on £1trillion. When all in the private sector are getting shafted, do not expect them to react kindly to funding public sector pensions. After all, the private sector is where wealth is created. The public sector just spends (and often wastes) it. As someone else said, it's a giant Ponzi scheme. We are not funding our retirement. We are funding our parents retirement. For us to benefit, the generations below us need to also contribute to the scheme. Most folk under 30 that I know in the public sector cannot afford to pay into their pension, so it's already looking shaky. Disclaimer: I'm no financial adviser however so please do not take this as financial advise.

I went to the Sophos Open day yesterday. Was rather impressed, and not just with the free Umbrella! Graham Clueley is rather Dan Ackroyd esq in the flesh, unlike in his pictures.

I remember playing a game in PE when I was about 11. You had 2 teams at opposing sides of the Hall. Each team member had a number. The teacher would call out a number, and as soon as they blew the whistle, the 2 opposing players with that number had to run to the centre of the hall (Running towards each other) to get the football and score in the opposing net. Well, me and me old mate Tuckers ran against each other, got there at the same time and collided. I got a hairline fracture in one of my lower leg bones on my right leg. (Biology wasn't my strong point so can't remember which bone). I thought I'd broken my leg, but because I could hobble (in a lot of pain), they let me walk home. (In the snow) Never been in as much pain in my life, mainly due to constant muscle spasms which kept jerking my leg. That was around 1991 when Ambulance chasing was still just an American pursuit. My folks played hell with the school. Not so much because of my injury, but because of their lack of help. They didn't bother calling my folks or consider how I was meant to get home. From what I remember, they stopped playing that game in PE. I'd like to think my folks wouldn't have tried to make a claim over it. If anything, the school should have been sued for gross negligence regards my welfare after the accident, rather than an unfortunate injury during PE. I think the point I'm trying to make is if the school made sure your son was looked after correctly afterward, then leave it be. If they sent him home with a plaster on, sue them to teach them a lesson.

As long as you don't pay more than a couple of grand. If it's your first car you WILL scratch, scrape, bang and dent it, so the cheaper the car the better.

Has anyone mentioned USB printers yet? mattx, get yourself down to Oxfordshire this Thursday for the Sophos open day. There might still be spaces, plus there might be a little bit of snow left for you to fire off your own snowball at the Clueymeister.

As long as such technology remains OPTIONAL, then fair enough. When such things become standard I will start to worry. I like being "unavailable and un-locatable".

You could use that logic for almost all computer related issues.

Give JKdefrag a try. You can set it up to run as the screensaver if you want, thus running when the workstation is on, but not in use. (Best of all it's free) On some older workstations, you'd be surprised at how a good disc cleanup and defrag can make a difference.

Me thinks Siggy Fraud would have a field day with you. To the OP, yes Malwarebytes Anti-Malware is free (though paid for versions are available) and should be a firm part of your arsenal. It's got me out of quite a few sticky issues.

Further to everything Geoff has said, I'd recommend you download a tool specifically crated to remove this Worm such as this one by F-Secure. ftp://ftp.f-secure.com/anti-virus/tools/beta/f-downadup.zip As many on here point out, Sophos can be a pain in the neck when it comes to actually removing anything it finds. Also turn off system restore on every workstation before scanning. Do you get paid for overtime?

I can vouch for the 1TB Western Digital Caviars. Bought 2 myself recently. Very quiet and don't get too hot. Avoid Seagate seems to be the recommendation at the moment.

Your warranty may actually be with a different company, rather than Empire Direct themselves. If so, it is still valid. Check your documentation.

No personal experience but most folk I know that have them think are great. Ebuyer are offering a Twinpack of 85mbps for £34.99 at the moment. I've heard they do run on extension leads but it's not recommended, especially if they have surge protection etc.

Adore the stuff. Nowt better on toast. Never understood the cheese and Marmite combination though. I love Cheese and I love Marmite, but the thought of the two paired up does not appeal.
