    air con

Thats a real good price for that size room. Our server room aircon finally gave up in december, after 8 years of service, and we got charged £1500 for a new aircon unit in there.
  2. I have experienced this, but it went away. I do not know what the fuss is about though, i remember a bug in Windows XP Service Pack 1 that would not let you delete items off network drives that were hosted on 2003 server, would always say access denied (SP2 fixed this of course, and No SP did not have this bug). Did not remember hearing everyone say do not install XP then.
  3. Support Unit? Is that who we get our support from?
  4. We have the new personal sims, but apparently you cannot write data only read in the new .net version, you still have to use the old version to modify data. This is what the SIMS administrator tells me, but i suspect he is telling porkys. Can anyone confirm, i'm left in the dark a little when it comes to sims at my school.
  5. We always buy Acer when it comes to laptops because the phone support is SO good. I refuse to buy HP and DELL because of the indian call centers that drive me mad. I have found with Acer they are friendly they have UK call centers, they send a text message to say your product is on it was back to you after repair. Could not ask for better support. I think you must have had a bad egg.
  6. This is my view too. We have changed all our Laser's to K550's Inkjets. Our Colour laser(s) were costing far to much to run. The K550 is working out at less than 3p a page, does not have to warm up, provides better quality photo's, is fast (VERY FAST), and cost us £136 a printer with the built in print server! Only thing i have found is they do not like really cheap paper, likes to eat that.
  7. I did when i was 16/17 . Now i just have 1 PC at home and my work laptop thats it, i'd rather not come home to a "mini work".
  8. Try saving that file you pasted as riprep.sif in the i386\templates folder of that RIS image that is not working.
  9. Paste a copy of your SIF file in.
  10. Have you put the CD Key in the riprep.sif file for that image? RIS is basically CD Install over network. Do you have this part? [userData] ProductID=YOUR-CD-KEY-HERE FullName = "Your Name" OrgName = "Your School" ComputerName = %MACHINENAME%
  11. We have one SSID for the whole site. Like steve says, it makes life easier.
  12. We have 3 Laptop trollys. We have DLink 2100AP all over the school and that communicate with them. Most i have seen accessing 1 point was 58 laptops and the pupils did not complain of running slow or anything. We did have problems at first with slow and freezing, but redirecting ONLY My Documents and Favorites folder stopped all those problems. The appdata over wireless was killing it. I think they want more trollys, all three are always in use.
  13. You do not have a folder redirection in the same policy do you? As XP SP2 broke having IE and Folder Redirection on the same policy.
  14. same here to and i got my discs over a week ago. Never spotted that.
  15. The screens are the expencive part. £170 each.
  16. We asked for Graphics cards that would definatly handle Vista areo, and run it very well. Plus we have our games club at dinner time so we wanted to make sure they would run games of now and to come, these PC's have gotta last until 2012. (on another note, the games at dinner time get the kids of the corradoor's, the kids respect the machines more since they are used for "fun" too, not just excel). RM Still want £640 for a PC with 256Meg ram and a 40Gig Hard disk, so £540 a system is a bargain.
  17. I'm not a fan of Sophos either, they have improved the latest one, but when it did a definition update for example this big window would pop up and the machine would grind to a halt, totally unacceptable. Now the later one does not have the box, but still goes dead slow when updating.
  18. There is a GPO for it, its under Machine Security Policy right at the bottom, about 5 User Account Control Options.
  19. £540 a system, thats with a 17" Xerox class fronted TFT too, MS keyboard, MS optical mouse, DVD Writer, 80 Gig hard disk, GeForce 7600 GT 256MB, P4 3Ghz, 1 gig of RAM, 3 year warrenty. We have our PC's custom made to what ever we want from a local firm. Plus we can go inside and not void the warrenty, if its just a dead disk for example, i can take it out, and drop it off at the shop on the way home and he just changes it. Very handy.
  20. All our new PC's are bought with graphics card that can take areo and with 1 gb of ram for when we do dive into Vista our hardware will be ready.
  21. How about the agrument that for example the school i work in, gets shiney new PC's every 3 years as it is. God knows how BSF would effect our computer ratio, as we currently have 280 PC's/Laptops for kids usage only and only 493 students, i doubt we would have this level of ICT equipment under BSF proposals.
  22. http://communities.rm.com/content/view.aspx?cref=GP379836 Cough, Cough, Cough, Cough. and even more Cough's
  23. Ever thought of using Windows Disk Protection? You can highlight the Program files directory while on as Admin , delete it all , reboot and its all back to normal with no delay in booting. Allows your students to do what they want to drive C:, reboot all is back to how you set it.
  24. The software installs fine Geoff, my issue is Vista does not display that it is actually installing software like XP would. It just says Please Wait while it is installing.
