tobiasclarity replied to tobiasclarity's topic in Enterprise Software
I have just checked and the policy destination for the disk to tape is just set as our tape drive.....all very strange i cant work out how to block it -
Hi All, Got an annoying issue i am sure someone must know how to sort out. We have our days set out into different media sets and currently if a tape is allocated to Tuesday for example and it uses up all that tape instead of then pausing for a prompt asking for another tape or scratch it just uses a tape in Wednesdays media set and i cant work out how to stop this any ideas would be great Many thanks for any help in advance

Hi Guys, Just wondered if anyone knew of a way to proritize certain servers to start backing up before others, we have some files servers i would rather were backing up the moment VRanger kicks in in preference of lesser needed servers. We are finding the overruns are causing slow downs in the mornings Any help as always will be much appreciated Many thanks all!

Hi All We have some Motorola WX306 handsets on site and i need to transfer all the contacts across. I remember when we set these up that i had used a contacts transfer software which i belive was motorola however i cant find it anywhere on the web and equally not my computer either as it has rebuilt since then. Has anyone got a copy they can send me, most links that port over to the motorola site for download are now being intercepted and redirected to the main page so i am guessing the discontinued it but i cant find it anywhere many thanks

Hi All, We are just about to add a further 15 iPhones to our site and currently i am just using iPhone Config Utility to roll out policies at setup. I wanted to know what everyone is doing to enable them to remotely manage and/or roll out apps to the iOS devices. I found on the Apple site about MDM but i believe this is all outsourced to third party companies. If this is the only way can anyone make any recommendations. Many thanks as always

Hi All, We have an irritating issue in one of our main buildings that even after have a whole new fibre cable run is still present (Cost a small fortune). I don't know if anyone has any ideas but i am practically out as feel i have tried everything. We are during most times getting massive ping times, this morning for example it was fluctuating up to 760ms. Naturally this is causing lagging to most users and overall performance is poor. We have around 7 WAP's running in the same building (Ruckus) and around 65 desktop machines. The wireless network in said building doesn't see that many clients at one time around 60-100 is normal. Any help/ideas to try would be much appreciated. Many thanks in advance

Hi All, Just wanted to put this question out there and see what everyone else allows for. So the question is: What projected user area files size growth do you allow for within a year on year basis, or expect to see? I am aware obviously this will be down to quantity of users on sites, just interested to see what everyone says.

I know you can do this with school asset manager which we use here but to be honest i still use a paper form as you get the users signature and it is easier to identify!

Backup Exec 12.5 - Backup Device Failed
tobiasclarity replied to tobiasclarity's topic in Enterprise Software
From what i can work out the errors are primarily occuring during the verify process, which is odd! -
We tend to just give them a wipe over inhouse. Amberclense is the best cleaner it is the aggresive brother of the standard foam cleaner. The one you could call in if there was a fight you couldnt deal with

Backup Exec 12.5 - Backup Device Failed

Cheers, i dont know anyone locally that has one i could borrow from, i have just sent Tandberg the memory dump from the device and i guess i will just have to wait and see what they come back with. As it is they annoyed me as the replacement internal tape drive was a reconditioned one lol. It is so frustrating as i am sure you can imagine as if we get a server failure and there are no backups who are they going to look at!! -
You sir are a gent, thank you so much for taking the time out to do this. I am going to give it a try today. Regardless if it works or not you went the extra mile and i am very much appreciative!

Hi Guys, Am hoping that someone has had a similar problem and ant point me towards a solution (Although i feel like i have tried pretty much everything at the moment!) I am getting a lot of failed backups, primarily when going from BackuptoDisk to Tape. We have a Tandberg Storage Loader 2 and just recently had to swap out the tape drive as it became faulty (Although we were getting some of these errors before) now i can get about 3 jobs to run and then i will just get a succession of failures. All revolve around the error message E00084ED - A hardware error has occurred / Backup Device Errors E00084C8 - The Backup Storage device has failed / Backup Device Errors Any help with this will be much appreciated as i am literally having to nurse this backup system day and night to try and gradually eek the backups onto tape so we have some secure data in case of failures. I had contacted Tandberg who were very helpful and arranged the swap out of the internal tape drive under warranty but now they think that they have done their job and although i am almost certain this is still a hardware issue they are wriggling. Cheers guys!

Hi All, I am trying to access our SANS through the USB CLi connection at the back of the server, i had found that there was a way to use a console on another device to be able to reach the settings and/or change the maintenance IP address. The system is up and running fine through the SCSI switch however we have been left unable to administer the SANS and want to recreated this connection again to allow us to make changes. According to the HP documentation you can use the 'MSA Device Discovery Tool' this i am sure will potentially either reveal the existing IP address or allow us to be in a position to change/access the SANS Any help would be much appreciated

Hi Guys, Having a bit of trouble with our backup server, for some reason recently our backups on BackupExec have been halting as the backup to disk drive has filled up. Before this hasn't been an issue so I guess that it was due to the system doing housekeeping automatically. I guess the only reason this is now filling is due to our gradual increase in backup sizes. I have been forced now on a couple of occasions to manually delete some files which isn't ideal at all. Has anyone got any ideas? the drive is already 7.25 TB not quite sure where I am going to find further space without physically upgrading the server. If anyone is using this ystem how long does their backup to disk keep data for? ours appears to be a 2 week cycle. Also any suggestions on other ways I could deal with this would be much appreciated many thanks
-
Hi All, I have taken over the running of our backup system and the system as a whole needs alot of housekeeping as there are alot of remnants of old jobs etc that don't need to be there. Does anyone know on the backup selection lists if there is an easy way to see if the item is still current and in use, we have items in the list entitled 'example 2010' so on face value it looks like they wouldn't be in use any more but i wanted to try and find a way to validate this. I hope this makes sense. Any help would be much appreciated. Cheers

Hi All, Just wondered how everyone else cycles their backups, would be interested to see. We currently have 2 sets of tapes for WK A / WK B and do full monthly's which then get stored. These are then broken back down across 6 monthly and yearly so we have at least 2 sets of tapes covering that year.

Hi All, Just wondered how everyone has their UPS linked up to their servers. Currently we have both the PSU's in each server linked across the UPS's however i dont believe this is the best way of doing it as if there is a mains power outage the main purpose of the UPS's are to give enough time for System Admins to powerdown the servers correctly (aside obviously from spike protections etc etc) so in my mind it is pointless in a way of having both PSU's linked to across the UPS's Sorry hope this makes sense
