  1. To start off with we are getting 2 x HP 24-port Gig-T PoE+ v2 zl Module 2 x HP 20-port Gig-T PoE+ / 4-port SFP v2 zl Module
  2. Hi All, We are planning on purchasing a new core switch (as in title) however it has options of either 700W/1100w/2750w PSU's. I just wondered what everyone else has done as i know it is a popular switch. We wont have a lot of POE based connections so i am hoping we can get away with the 700W as pricing varies massively as you go up Cheers
  3. Wow that must have set you guys back a fair amount, great setup but loads of money im sure!
  4. TO be honest if i could just have an interface that would show me when there are immediate issues like server space, switch dropouts it would be a great start!
  5. I currently use the Logitech MX Revolution, just checked the settings for you, you can set the side buttons as right and left click so they can use their thumb instead
  6. Hi All, We are looking to get some decent server monitoring software, we have a TV mounted in our office and would like an 'easy to glance at' interface so we can pick up on issues quickly should any issues arise. I started to look at ops manager and whilst great it doesnt have that kind of interface that we are after Any ideas / suggestions
  7. Looks like after sifting through 12 providers we are leaning towards Redstor now had some great references aswell, will see how the fair over a year and then renew with someone else if needed
  8. Cheers i will give them a shout
  9. I am finding that BE12.5 is becoming increasingly unreliable (consistent issues with not completing full backups etc) but mainly we just want an all in one solution. We have decided to drop the tape backups completely with the new solution and just have backup to cloud and the replication to disk x2 on site. Redstor seems to fit all we need at the moment
  10. So we currently are using VRanger for virtual and BE 12.5 for physical and also to pull everything together to tape.
  11. Hey cheers for that will have a look through, i had a brief look just now and couldnt see anywhere that defines 'digital data' will check more as i say later. Thanks for the link
  12. Hi All, We are looking to move our existing backup set-up to a new all in one solution, what is everyone else using at the moment? Cheers
  13. Hi All, Just wondered if everyone could feedback what their retention policies are for critical data / coursework etc. I remember reading somewhere it is 7 years but just wanted to see how everyone else is doing it. Cheers
  14. Might be time to buy a new kvm if the hardware you are connecting to has now been refreshed and changed connections
  15. Hi all We have a very outdated backup exec server and a now new VRanger server. Currently we have no space to spare on our backup exec server so it got me thinking that potentially space could be saved. Anyone with this setup will know that VRanger runs its own backup to disk however we then have backup exec taking that folder and replicating it to its own disk with further compression before then going to tape. So essentially my question is if it is possible to get backup exec just to take the VRanger folder and put it straight to tape before it turning it into its own type of file?
  16. Hi all I wanted to start making as much and productive use of SCOM. has anyone been using this? Any good resources to get up and started. Seems like you can get as involved as you want to with the manager. Ideally to start out I wanted to get some basic monitoring up and running so I can have a display viewer running showing us statues etc Any help/advise would be much appreciated Cheers
  17. I'm back I tomorrow 😞, hopefully going to make it as productive as I can so Monday won't be such a slap in the face when everything is 'Business as normal'. have the joy of dealing with failed backups tomorrow that nosedived over the Christmas holidays yayy😄😩
  18. Hi All, I am hoping that someone is going to give me a eureka moment and provide an answer straight away. I however spent the best part of yesterday trying to get this worked out. Basically a few server we want to have scheduled restarts on, i have that already nicely set-up in task scheduler however it refuses to send an email out as a trigger when the system shuts down and starts back up again. After doing to reading i have found that this is a known issue with task scheduled. That aside i figured as they are all virtual machines i would just get VSphere to trigger an alarm on reboot / power off / power on (tried more aswell) and send me an email. Again this doesn't work the only time i can get it to work is if i right click on the actual VM and select reboot then it registers it as an alarm and sends an email IF however i go into the console of said VM and click start - restart VSphere doesn't seem to register it as a reboot and so doesn't trigger an alarm and doesn't trigger an email All very frustrating and hoping anyone reading this can make sense of my objective from the above babble Many thanks in advance for any help
  19. Did you get it from them directly or a reseller if you remember
  20. Hi All, We are in the market for getting an environmental monitor to go in our server room, this is for a number of reasons not least to orchestrate an automated shut down of the systems should the air conditioning fail of an evening /over night Just interested as to those who are using one what they are using etc. any feedback would be greatly appreciated. I know APC do a couple and i have found another company called Climate monitors do a couple Cheers
  21. I am currently in the market for a half decent cable tester, preferably one i can run reports from. I am running just over 4000m of cable this summer instead of us getting a company in so would like to have something i can run proper tests from and not just having LED's illuminate. Would also be interesting to see what everyone else uses. I dont think we will be able to stretch to Fluke devices Many thanks
  22. Well just to add more confusion i tested it without anything plugged in apart from the fibre and we were still seeing the same, also they are brand new gbics on both sides
  23. Hi All, I just wondered if anyone can throw some ideas in over this issue we currently have, We noticed some while back that one of our main switches in another building had been getting random ping times, it never seemed to stabilize in the sense regardless of high user load or barley anyone in the building (during holidays) as such and for works that needed doing anyway we had the Fibre replaced going from our core to said building with a nice shiny SM. Unfortunately the problem still existed. We have now due to other reasons been in a position where we could replace the switch in the building with a new replacement, so in theory now no problems right? nope still an issue we have now got a brand new fibre and a brand new switch and we are still getting random ping times (See attached) This is all HP kit and fibre was tested and certified on installation by company that installed it Any ideas to try would be gratefully received Any of our other switches in other buildings all give a nice solid <1ms response straight down the line, with not much difference in setups as we have ruckus WIFI for example across the whole site again this is on other switches so cant be that.
  24. Sorry matey i didnt see you had already answered that, its really difficult to tell if you are saying settings are coming straight from a binded AD, is there nothing being controlled by either PM or WGM?
  25. Ha ha great question!!!I use primarily PM for alot of tasks but still find myself falling back onto WGM when PM is being a pain and not following simple commands
