yeah we use it too, i dont mind it everything seems to be great, have had to tell the company to stop calling however they are a little too keen on consistently calling asking 'how are things going' which are always at the most inopportune moments. There is one major issue i do have is that they are able to view any users passwords on the site, i was a little horrified to say the least when they ran a 'security check' when ic alled and asked me to tell them certain characters of my password

Oh of course, i get that i just am more looking for any reason to make the change if not just to leave it

Hi All, So with the recent released of Mavericks so comes some changes with Mavericks server. However it isn't a free update it is £13.99 Has anyone downloaded and played with this yet, can you report back to any changes that are worth upgrading from mountain lion server? we are only supporting 20 clients off our Mac Server so not worth us spending money if there are no notable differences that will make my life easier.

We use School Asset Manager | The Solution to Better Asset Management which isnt too bad, there still are some improvements needed but works a treat for what we require

Hi All, Has anyone here got ACT door access units running on their site? we have it pretty much across the whole site however i have noticed on our switches they are connected to we are getting frequent duplex mismatches. Not sure if thsi is something we need to address or just something normal and expected for this system. Cheers

Hi All, i have just recently taken over the responsibility of the backup systems at work with no handover, i wanted to be able to just see a plain view of the areas/folders that are being backed up as we are filling up tapes on overnight backups and backups are failing now. I think instead of using extra tapes that actually we are just backing up far too much hence why i need layout view is there any way to view this easily Many thanks

We did yes, it did turn out to be the RAID controller in the end that had decided it would stop working after 5 years of continual use *tut* that got replaced although some miraculous motion in this whole problem meant the RAID config was lost obviously through the controller going down but also the RAID config that is stored on the HDD's had also been lost meaning we had to re-config and restore all the data stores from backup

Hi All, I am having a couple of issues setting up staff laptops on site so that they are able to go off the domain and work for example on their home wifi. All sorts of issues occur, one of the main issues i am trying to get round is there is a nag box appearing when you take the laptop offline stating there is an issue with the autocorrect file in MS Word, this only happens when conencting away from the domain. I have made registry changes but there naturally go back to their original state when it conencts back to the domain Any ideas / suggestions would be much appreciated Cheers

Hi All, Is there a way to deploy Adobe Suite over the Mac Server, i only need to install it on 11 machines but the install is taking well over 45 minutes per machine. Just wondered if it is possible to push out remotely? Many thanks

I wouldnt have thought this possible either to be honest as others have said. Only way would be 2 machines in theory. even if it was possible i am sure it would be a pain in the backside to maintain and setup

Hi All. We are trying as a temporary way round our main exchange server still being down (some of you may remember my last post) to have Exchange running on virtual. Everything has gone find with the restore of data to the virtual machine however the only issue we are having is the MS Exchange Trasport service just will not start. It goes through the motions but just falls over. Looking at the event logs and i dont know if it is related but at the same point it falls over the winhttpautoproxysvc service says it 'suspended operation'. I find it strange this happens at the same time as the transport service failing to start however it could be unrelated. Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated to help us try and get some emails going today as we are over 48hrs now with the service still down. The engineer came yesterday and sure enough replaced the raid controller as i and many other thought however found another part needed to be replaced which wasnt on his van....we await tomorrow

Hi All, Such a lovely Monday when you walk in knowing that the Exchange server had nosedived on Sunday!! We have an engineer booked but just curious as to whether anyone has any ideas as to the likely problem. The server boots to post but then just sits there on the intel boot agent and then halts saying media not found. Now interestingly when you switch the server on you don't see any lights chasing through the HDD (nor any amber light.....just no lights at all). I suspect the main issue could be the Raid controller but i am open to ideas. Luckily our network has a great Up time so having downtime for once in a blue moon although inconvenient isn't such a horrible situation. Anyway Happy Monday everyone!!!

We think we are having some end user performance issues and i need to start ruling some things out and be in a position to proove that it is or isnt being caused by switch and / or rogue devices. Hi all, We have a user that wishes to make certain changes to the mac he is using like updating itunes and changing other bits but we dont want to give him full admin rights as this is not inline with our user policy. Is there a half way house we can use to allow certain areas?

Check the driver, if not delete and reinstall we had this issue on one of our Macs and this cleared it I dont know how you have added it but installing via IP address rather than searching can help as well this has worked for us in the past also

Hi All, Nice interesting issue for you to digest on a Tuesday morning. All of our macs were originally connected to RM Smartcache for their filtering with the proxy settings added into each mac etc etc i had also propagated settings through profile manager to disallow settings like network, users etc to all the macs. Our smartchache is now down and unable to be bought back up again and therefore i ened to remove these settings to allow internet access however this cant be achieved as a profile is on there blocking it and as the macs now cant see the server i cant think of any way to get the new profile on the mac to release these settings meaning basically the only way around i can work out is to wipe each mac and start a fresh (something i dont want to have to do) I have tried copying a new profile from the server onto usb and manually adding it however it wont as it says restrictions are in place from the administrator. Does anyone know a may to get round restrictions set by the server manually on the client? or have any other ideas i could try Many thanks

Hi John, Do you know what in the end i ditched the whole process and manually imaged the last 14 machines. I could create the image fine using XServe but then when i had deployed it was replicating the serial number of the host machine across the clients i was deploying to which is a common problem (reading through the net) and meant when joining them to the profile manager it just fell over. i just didnt have the time to spend fixing it as we only have a few clients.

I actually tried this and it just sat with the American Trends logo at the top of the screen then of course you would expect the POST text to stream beneath and yet nothing.. But the moment you hit a key on the keyboard the machine boots to windows normally but just shows no POST text

Hi Guys, Just wondered if anyone had any idea on this. We are having an issue with some of our new machines running Gigabyte H61M motherboards where when the machine is switched on it just sits on the POST screen logo this happens around 1 in 5 switch ons and the only way past it is to hit a key on the keyboard and then the normal boot process resumes. Hi All, Dont know if anyone else has been having the same problem or has any suggestions We currently have 4 Apple TV's across the network all connected on wireless, we have been getting consistent problems with connection etc. i theory i should be able to sit my office with all the apple tv's switched on across the site and view them all when i check on airplay but i get 1 or 2 at best showing. Yesterday I went to show a teacher how to use the Apple TV with thier ipad and we couldn't get a connection to start and then when we did i tried to see it on my iPhone and it wasn't even visible. it is just so inconsistent Any ideas would be greatly appreciated

We dont get as much damage here as i did at the last school i worked at, however anything that is notcied or observed the first step we take is just to revoke access to the IT room for the whole day apart from timetabled lessons and go from the peer pressure angle. As we are a boarding school we are unable to entertain the idea of CCTV in the IT classrooms but i think as someone else has suggested maybe start looking at speaking with SMT and have the teachers addressed to be more vigilant
