Personally I would tell them to go shove it. Especially in light of the 5k thing. Be damned if I will let someone treat me like that and then allow them to get me to come running when they realise they need me

Its probably just a sheet of 20 technical questions which you have to answer. Like, 1) If you wanted to check to see if a device had drivers installed correctly, what method would you use? 2) If you wanted to add a new user via Active Directory, which steps would you follow? 3) What 3 things should you do when installing a graphics card? 4) Failing all else, would you consider sleeping with the boss in order to get the job?

That e-subjects site looks like its got some pretty useful resources on it. Thanks for that one

Good god...no way my work is worth 900 a day. Might be the standard consultancy rate, but my work isnt worth that. I would just be ripping people off. I'm an honest person (too honest some say), if I was totally honest then I would have to say I'm not worth 900 a day. Course..if I was just trying to fill my bank account, then I would say 900

A daft question I know..but all the services running?

Wow...thats pretty harsh. Can honestly say I have never been suspended in my life. (that includes when I was at school myself hehe, yea yeah...teachers pet I know ) I think I've actually walked into a no-win position, on the one hand I see Indiegirl regularly complaining (and quite rightly so) that her NM doesnt do anything, then here I am , doing as much as I can (some apparently say more than I should do), and still cant win. I have to be honest, if I didnt do cabling, and projectors, IWB etc..I really wouldnt have a whole lot to do other than changing the occassional password. The network is stable, and isnt really in need of expansion, everything is running smoothly (with the occassional exception of a sims update ). Without out the "additional" things that I do, I think my day would entirely consist of just swapping out a mouse or changing a password. For which I would be hard pushed to morally justify my wages. I'd end up spending all day on an internet forum !! hmm..wait....doh !!!

See...now look what I have started..I knew I should have lied and just said yes I do have it in writing

I had ladder HS training many years ago, though admittedly I dont know if I need re-training. Bah...lawyers will sue for anything...every week that passes this country gets more like the US, I am surprised most mornings that I can speak to students without written permission without being charged with trying to groom them.

I suppose I should...but then again, I *should* wear antistatic wriststraps and crud , I *should* never browse non work related stuff at work , I *should* never do a number of things. I dont know, I just never bothered with getting stuff in writing. Guess that I've just been doing it my way for so long now (decade and a half) that I just get on and do what I do

To be entirely honest with you Sysman..I really dont know, the NM and SMT tell me its covered, and thats good enough for me

Saving 500 quid makes a vast difference with our budget. So far, only 4 people have been killed by falling projectors which I have installed, I think thats probably because I used blutac to hold them up. It seemed like a good idea though at the time. no..but on a serious and somewhat less sarcastic note. I have done over 40 of them over the last 7 years, never have I ever had one wobble, fall down, explode, send out shrapnel or anything else which has caused anyone any harm. Of course..that doesnt mean that one never will, but hell..if I got worried about whether anything would ever happen I would end up never opening a pc, let alone doing anything more I guess if I had only done 3 or 4, I might be concerned, but at over 40 of them, I have probably done more successful installs of them than some so-called professional installers Yeah, secondary steel cables, and a 1214 security approved clamp are a must if you are doing it properly.

I'm from gosport...place is a shithole..not unlike portsmouth. Or england for that matter. (as you can probably guess, patriotism isnt a quality thats particularly high in me ) On the plus side, I imagine that those 2 weeks of work experience you did probably count for the total work done in gosport in the last 20 years, there are so many benefits claimants here that they are thinking of renaming the town in 2007 to dossport

The biggest irony of my existance is that here I am saying how much I have to do, and yet I have quite easily wasted 5 hours of the last day and a half working time on this thread And yay...10 pages ! Fantastic..who says debate isnt constructive

Just goes to show that arguments always make the best threads on forums ! Come on..someone argue, lets at least reach double figures on the thread pages

Yeah ?! Well...well.. I have to...er.. Solve western aggression in the middle east Build a successful english football team , which can run unbeaten to south africa 2010 and win the world cup Coup the royal family after successfully proving a royal conspiracy over Dianas Death Break the atom and merge it with human DNA to create the first Atomic Man Construct the first martian colony Stop Chelsea from buying everyone they want Do something which stops Blair from grinning (tough one that) Solve international poverty Win the lottery Try to convince Angelina Jolie to give a kid a normal name And yet...try and tell that to people today, and they wont believe you !

On a more positive note, think of all the extra hits this thread has generated

Quite possible, I had alot of trouble trying to upgrade from an earlier version rather than uninstalling first. Only annoyance I have now is that we have a 210mb file of educational essentials for the board which not only takes forever to install, but visually appears to crash the machine while its doing it. It doesnt actually crash the machine, but does lock it up for a long period while it installs. (guy from smart provided us with it..got masses and masses of templates and lessons for different subjects in it)

I would think it would take me quite a while, although we dont have any 1940s buildings, but even in more modern buildings, it would still take a while. I cant give a precise amount of time obviously, because it very much depends on the relative layouts of the rooms, but if I had to guess based on a similar kind of work from last summer, I would say maybe 3 full days (most likely not in 3 days, more 3 days worth of time spread over a longer period , ie. 5 or 6 days) Like Plexer, I dont consider myself a network technician...I consider myself more an network engineer. I think thats probably a more suitable wording for what I do. I should also state that I am not knocking anyone for what they do, or the choices they make, or how they do anything. As I have said in several posts in different threads now, I am always merely happy to see what a wide variety of different things we do within the encompassment (is that even a word?) of our job titles. Its a fascinating industry, and the widescape of our roles within the industry is fascinating to me. I would hope that nobody finds me aggravating or my posts condescending , derogatory or elitist. However if I am coming across that way then I will of course formally apologise and withdraw from causing further negativity

I'm not on term time..just the standard holiday allowance Has to be said there is something creepy about a school out of term time. Its got that Shining snowed in hotel feel about it. Does of course mean that you can speed down the long corridors on wheelie chairs though..so its not all bad

I generally like to take my holidays around the winter period...not for any work reason, but because the sun annoys me, I'm a snow person (obviously not here in england...I'm on about proper snow ) Nice winter hols..bit of skiing, skidooing and the all important Apres Ski !! Nothing to do with the thread, just thought I would pop in a jovial post !
