That's exactly the same problem we had! 200Mbps line and .5Mbps download! I guess what you have to remember is that if you have a 100Mbps line (or 200Mbps if you're like us) then it's not a 100Mbps internet connection but actually a 100Mbps link to Schools Broadbands data centre(s) who then dish out the Internet. Either their systems failed or they run out of bandwidth to share with us all.

If you take a photo of it and post it on here then people will be able to see your issue as it could be anything from the lamp to the colour wheel.

Our PCE server is running out of space (this morning we had just 14MB free out of 500GB). It's a VM but the host is also running out of space but I was able to expand the hard disk by 25GB so I/we have a bit of breathing space! Has anyone any experience of archiving some of the information it stores? I'm assuming it's storing the screenshots somewhere but I can see where at the moment and if/when I find them I need a clean way of removing them from the PCE system so I dont break it and also I need to see if once I have archived it off to a USB drive if its of any use in that format or not else I might as well just delete it instead of archiving it. Thanks.

We always get generic batteries - 2Power is the one we normally go with and they work just as well as a branded one. Used them for years.

Best way is to create a new domain and then migrate things across to that as and when you can. You create a 2 way trust between the two domains so that when you put a computer on the new domain it can still access resources on the original domain. Then when you've transferred or migrated things across to your new domain you just remove the trust and turn off the last DC that you have.

The way we manage Windows Updates on the servers is to use WSUS (actually we use SCCM which used WSUS to be technical) and tell the servers to get updates from that and then not push out any updates at all so when the servers check WSUS/SCCM for updates, there arent any so none get installed! I would guess this would work the same in 2016?? We (mainly me) then run Windows Updates manually on the servers during half-terms.

Good Luck with those timescales! We have an EAD link (OpenReach are the wholesale provider to our ISP) it only goes 1/2 a mile but took 2yrs to put in! The biggest issue with them (it's just a fibre optic cable after all) is they have to get permission from the local council to open up the inspection holes to run the cable and its the council that are the bottleneck causing any delays normally. We're supposed to be doubling out internet speed a month ago and it's delayed because (you guessed it) OpenReach are the ones who put the new kit in for the new line and they are a law unto themselves so take any dates with a very, very large pinch of salt!

Try logging on as a different user with admin rights and try Windows Updates again. I had that issue with 2012R2 with updates just not downloading. I logged on as a different admin user, installed the updates OK and then it worked when I did it as the original user!

I thought you wanted small?! That case is the largest we have here and thought it would be too big for you! It's the only 'student-proof' case we've ever come across as all the other cases give students access to the cables at the rear where they can fiddle with them. Hope you find what you're looking for.

I dont know if you'd class this as small, but so far (touch wood) they have been student-proof for us as they have a Security Rear Cable Cover that you either screw in place or (like us) use a Kensington lock on it so the 'little rascals' cant fiddle, unplug or break any of the cables! LOL - I've seen that plenty of times before in Schools (including my own) it's what happens when you pay people (typically electricians) who think they know what they're doing when really they have no idea. Connections like that will mean that a PC connected to it will be running at approx 80% of it's connection speed! There is a reason why qualified ethernet cabling companies charge a lot more than a 'contractor' does! We have a compromise and get our electrician to run the cables but we do the terminating at both ends so it's done correctly! That way they dont unravel an inch or so of the twisted pairs at either end and then punch it down whereas it shouldnt be any more than a couple of mm (tight as possible) else you'll not be running at full speed on your network!

Some of our Teachers are very good at doing that! Never leased any IT equipment myself but one of our schools did and it was a right mess so good that you're asking advice on here which I'm sure will be useful for anyone thinking about leasing in the future.

Make sure any kit you lease has maintenance/warranty on it else once the manufacturers warranty runs out you will end up still leasing faulty kit you are unable to use!

I noticed that the Integration Services needed updating so I did that last night on all the VMs and rebooted them at silly o'clock in the morning so not to affect anybody and I've been pinging two VMs and the Hyper-V Host since I got in at 8am this morning and nothing has not responded yet so either it's fixed or it just hasnt gone wrong yet!!!

Yes 3 virtual switches (Private, Internal Network Switch only and the External one which is the one we use for all the VMs) The External Network Virtual Switch is connected to the TEAM of 4 NICs - there are no other options in the drop down menu As you'll see from the screenshot linked above, this option is ticked.

There is a NIC on the server that has 4 network ports in it that were teamed up to give the server 4Gbps throughput when we orginally set the servers up a few years ago. All the VMs have a single NIC in them.

We have just started getting network/server issues where PINGs are coming back not responding for one ping and when connecting to the servers (both physical Hyper-V hosts and the VMs). In the event viewer of the hyper-v hosts we get this: MAC conflict: A port on the virtual switch has the same MAC as one of the underlying team members on Team Nic Microsoft Network Adapter Multiplexor Driver Anybody had this before? If so, help!

Make sure you get the depth right else some rack mount kits for servers etc. may not fit as they may be too short! My boss got caught out with that one and we had to buy some rack mountable shelves so an extra expense we could do without.
