  1. Hello Nick, Any advice on what can I do? I still get the access deny, can't change the user from Iuser_server1 to network services just won't let me, please see screenshot in previous post. As I said, I follow the instruction very carefully. I also delete everything and started from scratch following each step, but still get the same error. Many thanks
  2. Hi Nick, I can't change it to network service, just won't let me, please see screen shot. I tried to do everything from the start following each step very carefully from your guide. It is still the same error message. Please help Thanks
  3. Hi, I tried now giving both the IIS_WPG, and Network Services account full control to both the HAP folder and the app_data folder, but still get the same problem. Also could you please tell me if this setting is correct on IIS 6: I set to use anonymous access and no athentication following the installation manual, I remember that in version 6 it was the other way around. Is that way it get the permission error? Regards
  4. Hi, It is IIS6, the identity is Network Service; re doing the remove read only didn't make any change. Is the fact that a file called hapconfig.xml doesn't exisit in app_data folder can cause the error? Thanks
  5. Hello Nick, I now gave full control to network services on app_data folder, I still get the same error message: Access to the path 'c:\inetpub\wwwroot\hap\app_data\hapconfig.xml' is denied There is no such file called hapconfig.xml in this folder, and it is not in the zip file for hap+ 7.2. The documentation says: Right click HAP and select properties 24. Deselect readonly and click ok. Allow it to reset every readonly attribute 25. Add the permission: a. IIS_WPG and Network Service. Set them to Read & Execute permissions b. App_Data Folder: Set to Read & Write So I asume that the hap folder needs read & execute for both these users, and the app_data folder inside needs read+write for these two users. I have now changed it to Network services: full control for the app_data folder and still gets the same error. Many thanks
  6. Hi, I followed every step of the installation notes for IIS6, and I get this error message. At the moment the App_Data folder has the following permissions: Adminstrators: full control IIS_WPG: read + write Internet guest account: Deny write System: Full control Network services: Read + write Users: read & excute Also I can see that there is no file called hapconfig.xml in app_data. The zip file downloaded from the web doesn't contain this file at all. 7. Hi, here is a solution that does work. In your proxy setting group policy enable the following: User/administrative templates/windows components/internet explorer Disable external branding of internet explorer I just wish I didn't have to use a support call to Microsoft for it, but couldn't find it anywhere including Technet people didn't know. So I was surprise when it was such simple solution.
  8. Hi, Clearing the roaming profile doesn't help and the problem is with all proxy gpo, we have 3. It is definately a problem with IEAK 8, as installing IE8 directely from the downloaded version works just fine. If you look at RSoP then you can see that the GPO does apply. But then the IEAK setting over ride it and if you look at the registery of the HKCU the settings are not there. Regards
  9. Hi Pwds, I am having the same problem in my school, no matter what I tried, either not entering any settings or entering blank settings, still the proxy gpo would not apply. I think it is a bug in IEAK 8. What did you do at the end? Did you install IE8 using some startup script, with the original executable? Thanks
  10. Hi, If I drug my remote file from one folder to another using the extanded version they will move folder but also lose their suffix and become unknowen type. I use 6.3 Thanks
  11. Hello Nick, I have recently installed Home Access Plus + on our school system. I have noticed this problem when trying to access picture files. This also happens on the latest 6.3. You can’t delete or rename picture files, in both extended view or basic. I can see on the server that the file is being used by the user who logged on to Home Access Plus, and my guess will be that it is the thumbnail view that causes the problem. With other file type it works fine. Also I noticed that the school name doesn’t appear anymore on the main page. Is there a way to put it back? One more problem is that when users are browsing in basic view every time they move to a folder they are asked again should they view it in extended or basic mode. Would be nice if it just stayed at basic mode with out being asked so many times. Many thanks Z. Shadar St. Dominic’s School Here are the error message for both basic view and extended view. 12. I am looking for a technical support company to support a our IT system which is VMWare ESXi + Microsoft servers. I need someone that can give me, the network manager, support. If anyone can recommand such, as I had not good experiance in the past with other support providers. We are in Surrey, but anywhere around the area will be fine. Many thanks
  13. Thanks Nick, I will secure the site as soon as I'll sort out the certificate we have and see if it is working.
  14. Thank you for this wonderful software. All seems to work but silver light is causing some problems. 15. I used this policy to remove the personal folders from the start menu: user configuration--preferences -- control panel -- start menu (start menu vista and later) And cofigure not to have personal folders. I then set this option: user configuraton -- administrative templates -- start menu and taskbar prevent changes to task and start menu - enabled This stopps the users from adding the personal folders back. The problem, now it is very diffcult to see how is logged on to the computer, as before you could know it by the personal folders in the start menu that use to be the user's display name. You will still have the personal folders availble from explorer, if you click on the left were the libraries are, in an empty space, and select "show all folders". To remove from explorer try Personal Folder - how can you hide it? I haven't tried it yet. I think Personal Folders are a waiste of space, only good for home users but in a domain with folders redirections.
  16. Thank you very much K.C.leblanc, I had found a solution thanks to your advise. I installed Audiacity on one computer, then copied all the folder from program files\audacity to a place on a mapped network drive. I created a shortcut to the exe and change the "start in" location to point to the users home folder. I then created a preference policy to change the following regestry key to all users: HKCU\software\audiacity\audiacity\mp3 And set update to: Reg_sz MP3LibPath s:\software\........\lame_enc.dll This is the location where I installed the separate MP3 converetor dll So far it works
  17. Hi Mac, Thank you for this information, have you used this software? is it easy to deploy accross the school? I have no problem searching on the Internet for "free mp3 recoding", but would like to know if someone has experience with a specific software, that is simple to use, and easy to deploy to all the computers in the school. Thanks
  18. Hi, Audiacity requires each user to configure the MP3 plugin, way to complicated for our kids. Also I can't give access to any folder on the C: drive as it is blocked by a group policy to hide it and block it. Thanks
  19. Hi, I am looking for a software that can record voice to MP3 files, and can be easly depolyed to all computers in the school. Using msi or just by running it from a shared drive will be the best. I don't want to use Audacity as it requires each user to configure it to use the MP3 plugin, and also access to where the plugin is installed which is usually the C: drive, we don't give C: drive access to students. If there is one even a paid option that you know, I'll be happy to hear. Looking for something very basic and easy to use. Thanks
  20. Hi, I am not talking about hardware support for their computers, I am talking about technical support for Windows, Windows Servers, VMWare, we have a support contract with them to give me, the network manager, technical support with any issue I can't resolve my self. We paid lots for it, but it looks as we don't get any in return.
  21. I have a very bad experience with Viglen level of technical support. It seems that if the question is slightly difficult they just ignore you and don’t come back to you, or say that it is something you done therefore they have no responsibility, or tell you to bring an engineer on site for £600 a day to help you. I am absolutely disappointed with that support, which is almost none exist. I would like to know if you had similar experience with them, as something has to be done about it. Thanks
  22. All I had to do is to copy the connect.ini from the SIMS server and paste it to overwrite the same file in sims. net folder on the TS server.
  23. I tried to use App-V, and found it very unfriendly and failed lots of time to virtualize all kind of apps. I used thinapp by VMware, and had much more success with it. It was much more simple to use.
  24. I checked the Free Windows Installer - MSI Installer Tool and it looks like a tool for developers, doesn't look as you can create a snap shot before and after. There is a list of software on appdeploy.com but I would also like someone to recommand one, beside wise that cost something like £3000. Regards
  25. Would any school could recommend a support consultancy, to give telephone and remote support, and sometimes on site support, for a secondary school with a proper Windows vanilla system. I am looking somewhere not too far from Surrey. Many thanks.
