Teachers messaging home - specifically 'Well done', positive messages
clareq replied to Bev's topic in How do you do....it?
We ask staff to make positive phone calls home. Parents love it, and staff report that they enjoy the conversations. -
I could definitely import msi's into the console without using AppWiz. In fact, I just found a post here, that I made back in 2011, with instructions on how to do so: http://www.edugeek.net/forums/o-s-deployment/75964-deploying-msi-rm-cc4-network.html

From memory (disclaimer: it's been many years since I worked on a CC4 network), RM packages are just .msi - you should be able to use the Adobe Reader packaging program, available from https://www.adobe.com/devnet-docs/acrobatetk/index.html to build a msi and import it.

What's the risk? Lost work? We have backups.

We have a user who can't open all documents shared with him. Some work, and others, often shared by the same person, return the error: “This link is not available to you. Sorry, you are currently signed in as but that account is not on the list of people this is secured to. To try a different email please sign out and open the link again.” The fact that there is no name in the "currently signed in as" bit makes me think it's an authentication issue, but going to "Shared with Me" and trying to open the files there still gives an error. The files that do work are always the same ones, but I can see nothing different between them and ones that don't work. I've tried deleting and recreating the share, without success. Any ideas?

At a command prompt: query user /server: will tell you who's logged on, and at which time they did so - useful if Impero isn't working or to check whether a user has really rebooted.

I excluded Win11 machines from U-EV. We now only use local profiles on those machines. I've had no reports of any issues from doing this.
-
I think this will be an idea that will die quite quickly, once the teacher thinks through all the issues.
-
I've already raised that issue with the teacher.
-
Thank you. I'll pass this onto the teacher concerned

One of our teachers want to be able to cast his personal ipad to his PC and has asked me to install the software to enable him to do this. I am concerned that a student could install the same software on their iphone and project anything onto the classroom screen. I therefore need to find a piece of software that will ask for a password before allowing connection - does anyone know if such a thing exists?

Students Turning Monitors off and preventing full shutdown

Look at WMI filtering to prevent the GPO applying to laptops. You can search for the presence of a battery: Select * from Win32_Battery WHERE (BatteryStatus <> 0) This will find all laptops. Edit I've just found a better code to find "is not a laptop" Select * from Win32_ComputerSystem WHERE (PCSystemType != 2) -
A colleague of mine has written this blog - it works here: https://markhardisty.wordpress.com/2022/06/07/customising-windows-11-pinned-apps-menu-for-education-users/

Don't buy, rescue. I'm sure there are many homeless daleks out there, just looking for a home: https://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_nkw=dalek&_sacat=0&Sub%252DGenre=Daleks&_dcat=112480&rt=nc&LH_ItemCondition=4

My neighbour has a cockapoo - whoever told you they don't bark is lying. How will keeping the dog in the kitchen help your child? Surely an emotional support dog needs to be with the child to be a help?

We have a dedicated PowerApps. Power BI and PowerAutomate account. It works well.
-
We certainly used to have our Admin and Curriculum domains on the same infrastructure - however users didn't migrate between them. Admin users logged onto Admin machines and curriculum users onto curriculum machines. As long as your users always use the same computers and aren't moving around it should work, otherwise you're going to get a lot of lost files!

Check the Radius logs - on the server that manages your Radius, look in the security logs for event ID 6273 - these will tell you any failed attempts at accessing Radius- 8 replies

As it was a previous Wordle, and you can't go back, the word was USURP (just in case, highlight to read)

When I log onto the autodesk site it shows my licence as "perpetual" As I say, if I change the serial number manually the software shows as licenced. It's just got the wrong serial from somewhere.
-
At the moment I've given the correct serial number to the teacher, and he can activate the software as needed. It's not that we don't have a licence, it's just that the software is reporting an incorrect serial number. Autodesk support are less than helpful, but we can't move away from it when students have work on going using it.

We have a 125 seat Standalone licence deployment of Autodesk Inventor, which has worked without issue for a number of years. I'm now getting the message that the software isn't licenced. I checked the licence key that pops up when the software loads, and it's not the key I deployed with the software, which is the one on their website. Where did this other key come from (it's the same on all machines), and how do I push the correct one back out. I found a registry key that had the incorrect key, but changing it there made no difference.

It was poignant watching Charles sign the Proclamation of Accession - he wrote Charles as usual, paused, then remembered he needed to put "R" at the end of it. He is, after all, a son mourning his mother.

A newscaster got very confused yesterday, "The Prince of Wales, sorry the King, no the Prince of Wales, Prince William spoke to the First Minister for Wales today" It will take a while for the new titles to become normal.

Just found this - it could be connected, as we do have both Win10 and 11. http://www.edugeek.net/forums/windows-10/227867-system-icons-disappearing-system-tray-when-switch-windows-11-10-a.html We use U-EV and local profiles.
