Just followed this through, DNS all looks fine on both my DNS servers. No duplicate IPs showing and the only network set to allow live migrations is the live migration network Im slowing going crazy Garry

Thanks for the replies. Comms is working between hosts on the cluster network and the LM network. Time and date is accurate on both hosts. They are broadcom NICs so will look at that but they have been working fine for 5 years and nothing has changed, not even any windows updates. AD account is still there and active and secure channel came back as good. Just tried another live migration and got the following event details "The Virtual Machine Management Service failed to establish a connection for a Virtual Machine migration with host 'VIRTHOST1': The logon attempt failed (0x8009030C). The Virtual Machine Management Service failed to authenticate the connection for a Virtual Machine migration at the source host: The logon attempt failed (0x8009030C)."

I am currently going crazy beating my head against a brick wall with my Server 2012 failover cluster. The whole system fell over (for reasons I cannot find) in the middle of the night last weekend. Cluster service had failed, all resources offline. Managed to get the services back up and the storage back online but the cluster name is in a failed state (Ip address is online) Everything DNS looks OK, cluster name resolved OK and looks to be accessible. I get 3 Event IDs in the cluster events 1254, 1205 and 1069. Under server manager the cluster name is giving me a Kerberos Security Error. In event viewer I am getting EventID4 - Security-Kerberos -The Kerberos client received a KRB_AP_ERR_MODIFIED error from the server virthost1$. The target name used was HTTP/cluster.domain.internal. I am also unable to run live migrations. If I try to live migrate I get an error saying "Virtual machine migration operation for 'VM1' failed at migration source 'VIRTHOST2'". If I take the machine offline and run a quick migration it works OK. (I think my servers are getting mardy with me as Im currently costing up to replace them) Any suggestions would be appreciated Thanks Garry Drinkall

SAR during school holidays
gdrinkall replied to gdrinkall's topic in Data Protection & Information Handling
Common Sense!!! thats hopeful :-) My concern is that the response they would take is that if the DPO is not picking up emails about SAR requests how are they picking up any emails about Data Breaches during the holidays to be able to report them -
I have been asked about the time frame on responding to a SAR during a school holiday. The school have been told that as it's a holiday they can basically "ignore" the request until they school term starts as they are not in school they can say they didn't receive it till the first day back and start the 30 days from there, I'm a bit sceptical about this advice and wouldn't like to put it in practice, anyone seen anything to support their argument?

Encryption for Staff Laptops - Any Advice or help please
gdrinkall replied to Bhavesh78's topic in Windows 10
Im just looking at the Sophos product now on trial, All sophos does is provide a management system for Bitlocker, cost wise on a 3 year deal its about £3 per device per year, not bank breaking but still deciding if its worth it. Next up is MBAM. -
Paxton Net2 Pro - any known annoyances/design issues from an IT POV?
gdrinkall replied to pete's topic in Physical Security
Im currently looking at Paxton with the option of integrating with our cunninghams system. is the integration worth spending £2500 on?? -
Just wondering how long people tend to keep students home folders after they have left. Just starting to have a tidy up of my servers and have quite a lot of old student data stored Thanks Garry Drinkall

I cant find the actual images as it was a while ago but a simple search for Adult humour brings up plenty of posts that are not really appropriate for students, im sure some more "descriptive" searches would bring other items. I did find images of naked women, posts on sexual positions etc

I am currently looking at offsite backup solution for our SIMS data. I am awaiting costs for RBUSS through Redstor but also looking into Azure backup solutions. Anyone had any experience with the Azure backup options??

I had the request from our art department for pinterest access. I eventually got them to agree to accept access for year 11 only during set times after showing them the type of images that could be available. Luckily I have some tech savvy SLT who backed my arguments for being so restrictive
-
Im looking at the encryption side at the minute, been told it will be an ofsted requirement next year (but i think its might be a sales ploy) does bitlocker work well, ive not used it as yet
-
that is how we do it. As long as they have logged on while on site it will cache the information.

We have laptops for virtually all staff and I have just upgraded them to Windows 10. No staff have local admin rights and havent for about 3 years, had some moaning to start with but now it is accepted, really cut down my work load. We have redirected documents and downloads and have them on sync (with a 6GB limit) so they can be used at home. Decided against Direct access and stuck with VPN so the staff have to make the effort to connect to our network (i dont like the idea of them always being connected from a security point of view and we all know how interested in security some teachers are) I removed most of the windows 10 built in apps and then customised the start menu with common apps. The only user issues I had really was how to log off and how to find network drives.

Chrome Books and Cloud Print - Won't Print Unless Manually Added
gdrinkall replied to Sam_Brown's topic in Cloud Services
I have just been testing this using the same setup - Printers shared in Papercut and set up via the google admin device management - No Joy. If I add the printer to the user when I try to print the print dialog seems to hang and do nothing BUT if i log into our papercut server http://ourpapercut:9191/client then if pops up with the option to select the account im printing from then the document prints out but the print dialogue still hangs as though it is not printing -
We have just migrated our staff shared area to Google Drive (approx 300GB of data) but now everytime anyone uses google drive on chrome is hogs the CPU and RAM until the machine becomes unusable. These are not low spec PCs (Core i5, 4GB RAM) This is happening off site as well as in the Academy so its not our filtering solution causing issues (just had a new one of those as well). Once you close Google Drive all returns to normal. Has anyone come across this and found out why. I have tried it on IE and firefox and while they are not as bad it still uses alot of system resources. This is happening on Windows 7 and 8 PCs and with both 32bit and 64bit installs of Chrome We are on the 2nd day since the migration and i can see mutiny on the way soon

Internet Filter recommendations
gdrinkall replied to LAEStratford's topic in Internet Related/Filtering/Firewall
Im looking at Bloxx and Lightspeed tomorrow to compare to the smoothwall we currently use before deciding on the next move once our contract expires next month. I think it will take a very good system (and a good price) to move me from Smoothwall as its a solid system and with the added support for Chromebooks that they have just introduced its ticking most of the boxes -
I have manually disabled the add ons. I made sure all the latest updates were on, still crashed. I then removed updates one at a time till I got to the IE11 install (which only happened on 20/05), still crashed. Uninstalled IE11, all worked fine on IE10. Reinstalled IE11 and it crashed again
-
Thanks for the responses I have tried disabling DEP for internet explorer but still crashing, removed all security updates, still crashing. Looks like a roll back to IE10 (manually as it doesn't support removal via windows server update services)
-
I have just started experiencing IE 11 crashing on our 32bit windows 7 laptops. It crashes when trying to use google, yahoo or ask.com. BBC works fine as does Bing IE 11 is patched to the latest releases. I have not seen it yet on any of our 64bit machines. The machines look to be clear of viruses and maleware and I have disabled all add-ons but still has the same issue Below is the error we get Has anyone had the same issue or know of a fix (other then use a different browser)

I had a lot of issues with deploying printer via a GPO, It was very intermittent with no dependency on PC or user. I have now started deploying printers using GPO but by IP address rather than print server name and it is working perfectly everytime. Its not a DNS issue like it sounds but a Microsoft "Glitch"
