Well - went to BETT with a view to looking at MISs. MIS stands were very busy looks like there's no shortage of schools and LAs looking to move away from SIMS. Had a nice demo at Bromcom - it certainly looks next gen compared to SIMS and does almost everything we would want and are currently using third party programs for. I mean, just being web based access from any device anywhere is a big enough perk for me to move. Be interesting to see what they do with regard to Welsh schools and the extra data/exam routines for Welsh Gov we have here. Bromcom doesnt currently support any of this and I don't think Welsh LAs or schools are going to be interested in moving over, until they implement what we need first.

Ooh this sounds better! How hard is that to set up? We started off as the package we created not allowing the pupils to view or install or update apps. This kinda backfired somewhat as things got more and more out of date and it only takes a version or two before something stops working (e.g. the ecport utility not allowing anyone to export). There was then no way to keep things up to date other than us going round each PC which is a massive potch. I need to automate the updates without allowing pupils to install software themselves. Adobe don't make it easy!!

Dual PSU here, Dual UPS's on Dual Phases. Despite each server having 2 x 1000 - 1600w PSU that is absolute max theoretical load and you'll never get anywhere near that normally.

Hmm there seems to be massive variability across wales. Here we only had funding for 50 new pcs (our of a fleet of 500) and no news about anything to do with interactive whiteboards. Has anyone actually got any documentation or links to websites that say what the actual plan is?? I use the term plan loosely.

Highlighted the software to the relevant teachers but seemed like it was not needed. Would be interested to know more if it was "required"

Yes I'm a 3d print noob too but I've learned quite a lot over the last month! Yes the ender printers are hit and miss when it comes to the physical quality - my ender 5 came with a warped bed and bent Z axis screws so not only is it hard to print on it squeals like a cat under a bus when the bed moves up and down. Support send me another lead screw from china but that was in a plastic bag in a big empty box and was bent on arrival too after it's long hard trip! Sending it back to amazon this weekend sadly. I've since got 2 x QIDI printers and they are fantastic - 10x better build quality. Yeh those benchy pics aint good. What bed temperature are you using, what hot end temperature ar you printing at and what filament are you using? All three can make a big difference. Also - benchies are designed to be printed without supports to test how good your printer is - disable supports too when you print the next one.

For some inexplicable reason, if you enable the erase local data on the chromebooks, every user that logs in then only gets 2GB alocated disk space to use for that session. That includes installing any apps or extensions that get installed and anything else to do with their user profile. That basically makes it unusable if you ahve quite few apps or extensions the kids are using. For that reason, we turned the setting off and have never had any disk space issues since!

Bromcom does sound like the one to be honest. I had a dream.... That one day we don't have a capital product here

Yes - that sounds like it. No access to my own network. I am not anti Hp/Aruba. In fact I swore by HP, my set up- before this Aruba update was HP 5412zl with a bunch of 2530-48G POE and supported by some older V191048G and some Unifi kit towards the end. That was rock solid and still pretty fast too. The new kit appears to be a significant downgrade compared to the previous 5+ year old kit. The new switches are all 6300M 48SR5 CL6 PoE 4SFP56 Switch (JL659A). Firmware has been a big issue. Thanks all - anny more experiences would be useful.

The LEA has fitted Aruba Switches and Wireless through. We have had 3 switches die in the first year and there are constant weird little issues. They've had trouble updating the firmware, every new version of the firmware seems to have other bugs that may affect something else. The wireless APs are generally working OK though they can't get my outdoor APs working. I've got no access to switches wireless or any form of reporting. It seems to be a massive issue to get that kind of access working for me. Is this Aruba stuff just garbage because from where I am sitting it appears to be a significant downgrade from my mix of 5 year old cisco, 5 year old HP and 3 year old Unnfi that I had before, which if not the most modern, was fast and 100% reliable Cheers

Hey all My LEA is kicking up a big fuss about Wonde currently and is recommending we do manual data transfers. Anyone else had this? We've been using it for some time for several other apps. I know boatloads of schools around the country are using it so I am a tad confused!!

How do you actually see if Wonde is transferring or not? I can't see anything on Wonde data transfer tool, or in the Wonde web interface either. Can see groupcall tasks and if they runn easy enough - and they appear to not be running successfully. Thanks

Ah well must have been a blip/delay as the new accounts are all there now!!

I've just tried to upload a bulk import for the new year 7 users into google. It says it successfully ran. I get the emails saying each new user has been created. However, none of the new users show in the admin console? The weird thing is - the import ran really fast, like done in 2 seconds - abnormally fast it seems. I checked last years csv and it appears I've set up the fields correctly! Anyone any ideas?

Just be aware that if you set it not to store user data the chromebook only allocates 2gb of storage to the logged in user, which can easily be filled up if for example there are a few apps that need to be installed on user log on or extensions or some downloads etc. We enabled it, had massive problems with users constantly running out of room, and promptly disabled it never to be touched again. Since gone 1:1 now so no longer running into storage issues as generally, only 1 user is logging into each Chromebook.

Just do what I do buy a 20 yr old car for £3k pay for it there and then and get delivery/drive away on the same day, and no having to waste £400 a month for the next 36 months to lease a car you don't own? I'd say you had a lucky escape actually!

No offence, but if your spending 50k on a SAN for a secondary school then you've been sold a pup by the SAN company. I'm refreshing servers this summer, though I only have 10k to spend (for servers and storage) but in any case we require less servers and storage now as so much stuff is on google and office365. I will be going Local Storage again no nas no san nothing fancy - local storage is super fast super good value and just works for 8+ years in a row (maybe replace 1 or 2 disks in the array if your unlucky).

As in google admin interface, selecting the Chromebook and clearing profile? never seemed to work always used to sit there doing nothing for me?
