Ooh weird one we've had all our old Prowise Chromebooks stop working today no one can log on - just goes straight back to the login screen. Anyone else seen this? I am assuming google have changed something to do with out of date chromebooks without telling us!!

Hi please don't be offended I was the one that reported your post as it's generally accepted here not to post any admin / default passwords in public view as any pupil/parent/nasty person could read it and then potentially have the admin passwords (if unchanged) to all of those schools. As you said - "The password can be found in your installation guide." and that's all we need to know. Hope you understand.

Ive been having some weird issues on various servers with folder permissions. I think MS have done something in a recent patch something to do with permissions and UAC control. have you tried adding that account to that specific veeam share folder manually just to see?

1950 is a pretty old switch are you sure it's not the switch slowly going gaga? I'd also be looking beady eyed at the connection between the schools based on the fact it works fine in holidays but not in term time it could be the internet (i am assuming) link between the schools struggling with ping or bandwidth?

If the system is meeting the space temp set point at 16 which it is - it should stop calling for heat. Like Jowloms said the actual water temp set point isn't being reached and the water temp set point is usually calculated by taking into account outside temperature and the indoor space temp set point and combining it with a a low and high temperature setting e.g. at 20 degrees c water temp = 20 and at 0 degrees c water temp = 80 degrees c If those two up and lower settings are totally wrong (e.g. at 20 degrees c setpoint set water temp at 70 degrees c) that would cause the heat to stay on trying to get the flow return water temp to 70c all the time? heating systems, like catering systems, are absolutely garbage I've never seen one that works well or is easy to use.

basically your asking the same questions as we all have asked. The problem is there isn't one bit of software that just works perfectly. Some do this some do that some are cheap some are expensive but nothing does it all perfectly for schools. Netsupport notify certainly isnt perfect, but it is relatively cheap we combine it with our phone tannoys.

There's no one to speak to Microsoft is just an AI Cortana took over quite a while ago...

If your talking about an inset day where everyone else is not in as they had done evening sessions - we are very happy to be in with an empty(ish) school and use these to catch up on maintenance etc

Ah it's the oracle takeover of sun microsystems all over again - change all the licensing, then force everyone to recertify their support at great cost, and then continue squeeze the customers so hard every year that within two years you won't have any customers left at all! Sun doesn't exist any more and I don't know anyone that buys oracle servers. Might be time to wave goodbye to Vmware - it's been a good 10 years!! Just set it as the default web page for staff and get your head to instruct them that they are expected to read the staff news page every day. That way it's up to their own (un)professional judgment if they choose to ignore it.

What about a google site called daily notices that you keep up to date? You can also lock that down e.g. to staff only so that you can prevent info going to the wrong people too?

Yeh thats for the whole install cabling and removal of the old gear oh and a network drop for the board too. Didn't think it was that high to be honest (compared to the cost of other work e.g. network drops etc) and it's not a new school so walls and cable routings can be hard work. Still if I am paying too much I would be interested to know!

Yes all our Lenovos had no DVD drives. USB DVD drives are rubbish. Went for actual DVD players with HDMI output in to the TV - job done reliable and high quality plus you can use 50pence dvds from car boot sales all day long.

If your on about just install costs not the board then approx £350-450 per board depending on wall structure complexity of cable routes etc.

Chrome every day of the week for me. Unless you have specific IOS apps you must use? IOS absolutely terrible at shared devices a big data breech/cybersecurity incident waiting to happen (especially if used for staff) Also fairly difficult to set up and manage often needing ££££ spent on a MDM Windows laptops just plain unreliable and much harder to set up and manage plus you've still got licensing implications depending on your setup. Chomebooks - blooming fantastic. Take the licenses on the chin and you won't look back! Been building momentum with it for the last 10 years but now totally 1:1 for all staff and pupils and boy did it pay off during covid. I avoid trolleys full stop now. Saves £1000 per classroom approx which just buys more chromebooks.

Yes now that we have moved most systems into the cloud and already have 1:1 chromebooks, we could probably do this for most PCs now. The only problem with chromeflex compared to say a chromebook, is you cant use play store apps which restricts functionality quite a bit. If everything you run is web based in chrome browser then your fine? Would be interested to see if any other schools have done it.
