Hi. Did you ever make any headway on this as we are in a similar position now. 14 years on and the original boards are causing issues with Windows 10 due to a driver issue between board and computer and whilst Promethean have tried to assist, they are saying that because the boards are old technology and Microsoft are being tighter on driver signing, they aren't in a position to pump money into R&D for a complete fix on old technology - which is understandable. So, we are looking at replacing 32 boards in a staggered rolling replacement - 15 this year and 15 next year (Budget constraints also playing a part) Problem is, Teachers have developed quite a lot of flipcharts over 14 years and to potentially move to Clevertouch would require an additional £1000 per user to purchase the Promethean software (which they like) and for every 3 licenses would be the price of another board (- 30 Promethean Licenses would equate to 10 Promethean Boards. Initial views of the Clevertouch board are good - which has thrown me a bit but its the flipchart issue that is the fly in the ointment Declan

Hi Folks. we have quite a number of Sanyo PLC-XE40 projectors which are now developing noisy fans. Has anyone changed these fans and/or know where to get them? I am going to take one down and see what type they are to see if I can source the actual fan and possibly replace it rather the fan unit. In these times of Austerity, I don't which to replace a complete projector that technically is working just because the fan is noisy. If I can fix it, all the better. Regards Declan

Hi Folks. Just looking to see if this is possible to implement. In our school, we have two broadband networks. One is for the main managed curriculum network which has two 'ports' on it - managed network and Legacy network and the other broadband network is initially for an Apple iPad setup. I have a Windows 2011 Server with VMware 10 installed on it with multiple virtual machines and have it all connected to the legacy side of the first broadband connection which works well and does what I want. I must add that we don't actually have a legacy network anymore but I retained the legacy broadband connection for my use on a 'private' network with my department as it allows me to do things I can't do on the managed network The Windows 2011 server acts also as a DHCP/DNS Server for the virtual machines but the second broadband connection also has its own DHCP/DNS server - which at the moment I can't change due to contractual arrangements - against my wishes I might add. What I would like to do - if it is possible - is to 'use' one of the virtual machines and connect it to the second broadband network using a second network card that is in this server. Is it possible to 'separate' virtual machines on this server to use two different broadband connections using different network cards in the server. Regards Declan Barry

I'm never done preaching to pupils (and staff) about not working directly off any usb device. Work off the network drive and if you have to transfer then fine use the usb device. If you make any amendments, copy back from usb to network and work on network area. I've a keypen that has broke off the usb connection. I'm now a micro electronics engineer attempting to recover important data by building a rig to reconnect the two parts together. Where's the version on the network....? What version.?? Its all on the keypen. What also really peeves me off is the attitude of staff who think I can work miracles and it imperative I recover her work. Tough!! They were all told. Not my problem!! Yeah!! The students drove my colleague mad last week. They set an alarm on several of the iPads and put them back in the trolley. They left and the next class came into the library along with the principal to do a talk. Cue the alarms on the ipad's. Frantic search on the trolley for offending ipads. One very unhappy techie! I'm still not convinced with ipads in schools. Even my own HOD is sceptical but with others pushing the 'must have' device, its hard to justify your own stance.

Hi BKGarry.. Our managed service setup is such a long drawn out process where one setup doesn't fit all and this is where the problem lies. Everytime you go to do something on the iPad or computer, you get 75% of the way then hit a brick wall either in filtering or just no accesss due to restrictions. Ah well, I'll see what happens tomorrow and take it from there. Thanks everyone for the help. Gratefully appreciated. Declan

They already do allow access but with the restrictions they have in place it makes using the ipads useless. Sites are Filtered (as expected) but getting access to certain sites is 'province wide' and what one school allows, others don't and this causes conflicts as schools can't manage their own filtering to suit. Really frustrating. Declan

Hmm.. Makes for an interesting conversation tomorrow with the company. Our existing wifi setup is managed and I've complained from day one. I had a conversation last week with our education board and made my views known in terms of supplying all the wifi ap's without a site visit, installing them in terms of connecting them to switches... Then leaving them on the floor/bench for me to fix to wall. I don't know a big lot about wifi hence asking questions and based on what I am learning so far, i'm worried for the future. Declan

Hi Norphy.. Can you elaborate. We are at a big disadvantage over here in Northern Ireland as we constraint by education guidelines, funding and guided by 'People in the business'. Why would you not advocate the Airport Extremes? The company that are installing our system have basically put in a router, a Mac Mini and 45 Airport Express's and that has cost us just short of 10K. We have a big query over original order as the express's are not what we were told was being installed. As I'm not big into Apple, I spoke to other schools who said to go for the extremes if possible. We have a another managed wifi system in the school but it is breaking my heart with all the restrictions imposed on it and I have no control. Its a case of 'that what you've got' which is why we are going down the route of our own wireless network specifically for the iPad's. This new system uses a Dynatek router and comes with the web filtering package included. I have to watch what I say as the relevant firm may be monitoring this discussion forum Declan

Hi Iain.. It seems that the newer version of the airport Express now handles 50 users as well. My concern is that they are still only 10/100 and with the amount of video work that classes will do on the iPads I need to be able to stream them off as the iPads are only 16Gb versions. If only using Express's I envisage a bottleneck in transfers. In my opinion, having the Airport Extreme give us the Gigabit Port connections across the network this easing congestion. I may be wrong hence why asking for advice. Declan

Hi folks.. We are having an apple Wifi system installed into our school and I have a query. Should we be going for Apple Airport Express's or Extremes? At the moment we have nealy 100 iPads but we intend to introduce iPads to class groups in the near future. Based on specs, my preference is for Extremes and I'm not convinced that express's are the way to go in our school which has over 800 pupils and 100 staff plus, we also wish to introduce BYOD. My view is that the Express's are only really network extenders and that any major load on them will grind the network to a halt. We also use video on the iPads quite a bit and this is one reason I'd like Extremes so that I can stream off the videos to a removeable drive and making use of the 1GB transfer. I don't think the 10/100 network connection on the Express will be suffice for multiple iPad transfers. Any advice greatly appreciated Declan

Hi Folks.. Could anyone help me with a problem on a Windows 2011 SBS server (basically a Windows 2008 R2 Server) For some reason, when I attempt to install any plug and play devices, it doesn't seem to be able to detect them from the normal inf location. What I have to do is let it attempt the installation which fails then right click on the device and click on update the driver. I then point it to the driverstore folder in windows/system32 and it then picks up the driver and installs it. Any reason as to why it doesn't pick it up from the normal driver path which is set as %systemroot%\inf Regards Declan

Hi folks. Whilst waiting for our support team to get back to us, I'll post my query here in case someone has a solution to my problem. I went through the installation of installing Nova-T6 Satellite onto a 3rd Party computer. 3rd Party over here in Norther Ireland means a computer which is not part of the C2k Managed Service Network. Its basically a Toshiba Laptop with Windows 7 32bit and the installation went fine but for some reason, when we try to run Novat-T6, a dialog box pops up saying that Nova-T6 is already running and that's as far as we get. There are no other Nova-T6 sessions running so we don't know why we are getting this error. Can anyone shed any light? Regards Declan Barry
