Hi all Im a technician that works for 4 large primary schools in sheffield and as its that time of year again when people are planning upgrades so I was wondering if any one has any pcs going spare or going cheap. One of the schools I work for has a really tight budget this year and basically has no money to spend on new equipment this year and things are falling over all around me. We would be very grateful If anyone has any thing they can offer and we would be more than happy to pick it up thanks alex

this is the sort of stuff i was thinking about I'm sure people have done this would putting an ipcop box in between removed this risk

should have said its a long way (100m +) from where the socket comes in to the building also we have the a vigor 2600 plus router thats vpn capable that was provided by CCTV company so no cost there only cost of 2 network points and my time to set up, also office staff have asked for desktop access at home and I would like to be able to get in as well as the head

Morning all over the past few weeks we have had problems with the ADSL line that comes in to school for monitoring the CCTV. The CCTV company say it the length on the phone extention to the caretakers office thats causing us the problem and I have no doubt it proberbly is, as it runs the lenght of the school. So I sugested that we put the box ast the other end of school and use the school network to get to the camera box at the other end. which will allow me to set up a vpn and it will give us more use of the costly ADSL line we have. Now comes the problem while I did a ccna course a few years ago since then I have not had the chance to do any thing like this as the only networking stuff I get to do is internal as we have our broadband provided by our LEA and I have resisted the temptation to blow out the password and fiddle. Does any one have a VPN guide for dummys or any tips on what i should be looking out for when it all stops working :-)

any one got an iso of the 3.01 software that could be made available to me i have just bought 16 camras delivered today and they all have version 3.00 I could scream, wouldn't normall ask like this but need to get them installed by en of the week and can't wait for digiblue to send me the cd thanks

Talk to full volume in sheffield I have bought quite a lot of kit from them for serveral primarys and a secondary. Try as i posted above uninstall and reinstall driver choose custom add admin tools and pre logon bit make a profile on the laptop export it and imoprt it on to other laptops I have just downloaded the software and its all there in the drivers i had same problems took me a month to find why the wouldn't logon did above and havn't had a problem since logged on every day now for over a year

don't know about this exact card but the intel pro set software has an extra bit if you reinstall the driver software and choose custom install theres a utility you can create custom wireless profiles and you can set it to make sure wireless is enabled renew ipadress and check for domain as it does the windows login I have not used it on the rm ones but I have used it on Dells using Intel chipsets and it works brill

Morning all I am looking at upgrading our rubbish old dlink wireless network at one of our primary schools I support every one on here raves about Ruckus kit so Can some one sort me out a demo and or a quote. As I have only to use Cisco kit in the past Im not sure how many points I will need we are just about to buy 16 EEEPC901-BK007X net books to run in class rooms with the possiblity of another 16 by the end of the year. I need to move fast on this as I am ordering the laptops and they will proberbly want then working the day they arrive. Thanks Alex

have you authorised the scope you can do this by right clicking on the scope and clicking authorise scope

I thought I had tried mapping a drive to the a network location I may have a different version of the software I wil try again tho just in case as it would save me a load of trouble cheers

I have installed some software (wellington square) for a primary school on to a windows 95 virtual pc so they can run it now they have moved to xp. The software has to have the cd in the drive to run, has any one been able to or is it even possible to mount a cd by scripting or other means in to the virtual pc cd drive so when i run different programs from the short cuts it monts the cd automatically?

Hi all we have just ha a new photo copier installed in the main office and I have recieved the old unit (bizhubC352) for our It suite printing I have set up a number of printers on our server and scripted them to install, 2 per user one black and one colour, with the black set as default, works perfectly, now i am tring to get the account codes set up on the photo copier to roll out to users. I have done this on other photo copiers with no problem in the past I have just gone to the installed printer on the server and put in the department id and the correct code in, then when the user logs on it has just picked it up. I have also had copiers that have been a pain and involved messing with registry keys or template files but with this I can't find any thing any one done this before or even have any sugesstions thanks alex.

dell service has been rubbish recently 2 months to buy 4 laptops 4 months to get a RAM fan for our server I found best way to order is online once you have an account you add what you want to the basket pop in you purchase order and two days later the stuff you ordered arrives

Have You tried changing the order of network devices in Network connections - advanced - advanced settings if bluetooth is top of the list then it will wait until it times out on that conection before looking to the next device in the list wireless should be at the top followed by lan connection and the blue tooth or firewire lan conection.

Sounds like a problem I have a few months ago the users mandatory profile was failing due to permistion problem. I remade the profile from a xp client and uploaded it to the sever giving it everyone permisstion using the copy to utility in system properties - advanced - User profiles and then changing the file extention to .man and it worked perfectly

I once found the internals of a memory card reader glued to some one picture on the wall and they wondered why it would no longer work and the card just fell inside the reader :-)

The Aircon failed in our server room this summer with only 5 servers 5 switches and 2 ups running in there and as server rooms go its quite large. We came back in on monday (it had failed over weekend) and you could have cooked an egg on the plaster board wall, the other tech opened the door and burn his hand on the door handle and thats not next to a boiler room, other consideration is when boiler starts leaking and your server room is under water will the insurance pay out not the ideal place to have it.
