Normally the smartboard SB580 doesn't require a separate power supply, however I'm not convinced the SB580 will work with any old serial to USB cable - I think it has to be a proper Smart one. Are you getting any LEDs lighting up on the SB580 when you connect your serial to USB cable? If the ready LED is not on at all then you need a new cable. Sounds like a resource conflict - IP addr maybe?

Have you tried a new/different power supply? As odd as it sounds, I had an HP laptop (Not sure if it was a DV6 variant) at a previous school with similar symptoms (no POST, no beeps, just flashing LEDs) and it turned out to be the PSU had failed and wasn't giving the correct voltage out. Maybe you could borrow one just to rule it out? Or worth a tenner to get a new one off ebay? Could always re-ebay it if not the solution...

Strangely enough, yes we lost internet connectivity this morning. It started to slow down around 10am and eventually stopped altogether by 11am. I had to restart our firewall/router for the first time since it was installed in March last year. All seems fine again now though. We are with Exa Networks - what about you?

I didn't have an arcade anywhere near my house - that's why I had to buy Time Crisis for the Playstation! Thought I'd have a quick look on ebay for Time Crisis and a PS1 when I stumbled upon this: NAMCO TIME CRISIS 4 TWIN DELUXE 50in SCREENS. WORKING | eBay I might have to sell one of the children for this - I need it in my house on Christmas day!!!
