Autumn census 2014... Post 16
jrma91 replied to chrisateen's topic in Data Managers's Data Managers Topics
At my school we were advised it was the number of timetabled hours in a week multiplied BY the number of weeks from the start of term, until the exams start or when they go on study leave. So for us this is 32 weeks. As once the exams finish they are no longer being taught the subject, and if we were to be audited then you wouldn't be able to prove that they were being taught that subject once the exams were finished. So this is what we have gone with! Also don't forget if a student is re-taking English or Maths as they didn't get a C grade then this counts as qualification hours. Regards, jrma91 -
Thank you both for your help on this! I never knew that the tools | Cover | Statistics was there! In finding that area it allowed me to answer another question my cover manager had, as he is new to the role, in how to find out how many times a student has had a cover teacher! Regards, Jrma91

Morning All, We have had teachers moaning that they have been used for cover too many time already this term. Does anybody know of a way to report on how many times a teacher has been used for cover through the SIMS Diary? Regards, jrma91

Afternoon All, I am starting to work on the census for next week, and am having issues with planned hours for courses. Are people calculating the planned hours as from 3rd September 2014 until 31st May 2015, (when students go on "Study Leave,") right at the start of the exam season? Or are they doing it for the whole academic year? The only reason I ask is that it reduces the total number of hours that a student has planned, which reflects as to whether or not they are a full time student or not! If anyone has any ideas on this could they please share? Regards, jrma91

Thanks for your replies! The first issue was the one that you mention Los! The second one was that the QCA code was missing for the IGCSE exam, and some students performed better in that, rather than the WJEC exam! Regards, Jrma91

Morning All, Is anybody else having problems with the PI Report in SIMS? At present ours is only showing data for students who took early entry exams, and nothing for 2014! Which as you can imagine caused a few manic attacks when it showed 5A*-C being only a quarter of what we were expecting!! Regards, jrma91

KS2 Results Download?
jrma91 replied to Scotbynature's topic in Data Managers's Data Managers Topics
Shakster, If you find an answer to the overall English level then I would be very grateful if you could let me know! As my head wants us to use 3lop Eng KS2 -> Eng GCSE, 3lop Maths KS2 -> Maths GCSE, then 3lop KS2 Average for all other subjects! And at the moment I can not work out how I managed to calculate this, amazing what you forget in a year! Regards, jrma91 -
Hi All, Wondering if someone can help? I am trying to enter a blank page in Individual Reports on Assessment Manager, but no matter what I try SIMS removes the blank page! I have unticked the boxes that say "Hide Rows with no results" and "Remove Report Sections that contain no Results" but neither of these work! If anyone has any ideas as to what I am missing can then please let me know? Regards, Jrma91

You could put a number in front of the text, that is what we do. So all Medical is 1, 2 Photo Consent, 3 Biometric Consent etc. Regards, jrma91

Matt, is there a way that this can be done? Or at least not to publish comments? As we have had an incident recently where a member of staff has put a comment on which they shouldn't have done! Regards, jrma91

Vik, I have checked in Nova T6 and can not find the name! Tombry, no it is Mr SmellyKelly SmellyKelly!

Morning All, In SIMS Behaviour Management>Detentions, does anybody know where the list of staff who appear on the Main Staff Assigned list is selected from? I have a random name come up, which I cannot find under the staff section or manage users. Personally I have no problem with the name being in there as it gives me a giggle when it comes up, but others phone me up and tell me about the name every time they see it, and I'm getting fed up of the phone calls and want to remove it! Any help would be appreciated! Regards, jrma91

Hi, instead of deleting the formula, then deleting the aspect to then re-add, why not just add in a new aspect, move it up next to the old one, then amend the formula to have the new aspect then delete the old aspect. I know is it still long winded but would be quicker and less likely to get the formula wrong when starting from scratch! Regards, jrma91

Year Roll Over - SIMS for me but not necessarily restricted to
jrma91 replied to Stuart_C's topic in MIS Systems
This would really mess up learning aims, as if sixth form students courses are back-dated to the start of term, ie 1st August, then they when they actually start of September 1st it would have been a month that they would have been doing the course, and could affect completion rates and therefor funding. Which I am sure that nobody wants reduced funding at the moment! Regards, jrma91 -

Getting Started on 4Matrix
jrma91 replied to ICTLady's topic in Data Managers's Data Managers Topics
Cheers Gaz, that has really helped! Now onto mapping the subjects to the exam boards! -
Good Morninig All, Our school has recently installed 4Matrix, and I have been asked to "play around" with it for a while to see how good it can be. Having played around on Friday I have been able to get students imported from SIMS into the system, with all of their early GCSE reuslts, not a problem. But now I want to put in our termly assessment data, but cannot find a way how to do it! I've tried using excel but am currently having no luck and getting very frustrated! If anyone has used/uses 4Matrix and knows how to get this in I would be very grateful!! I will also be posting this in the Data Manager group as well. Regards, Jrma91

Good Luck! We had ours a couple of weeks ago. I wasn't seen by the Ofsted team, but I had a number of senior/middle leaders come to me asking for data which we already had but they hadn't taken into their meetings! One of the weirdest requests I had was for data to be presented in a different format, as the inspector couldn't read the colours that I had done my graphs in! Regards, jrma91

Peter, I have not yet found a way to print direct from options yet. But below is how I did it last year. From the Options Module, you can transfer choices/allocations of students into excel. Then from there you can do standard mailmerge. Or you could create a marksheet specifically for their options, import the data into SIMS. Then from there you can use individual report in Assessment Manager to create your mailmerge, which would then mean you could add it to linked documents as well as sending the letter paperlessly. If you have any questions then please don't heistate to ask Regards, jrma91
-
Would it not be best to put this in the students' linked documents? This would also be accessable through the register or when you click on student view from the marksheet. Edit: Sorry just re-read your post. Didn't realize that you currently do that. The other option would be to create a marksheet which contains the information that you want, then it will be in the classes marksheets.

SEN Census guidance November 2013.docx The "guidance" came from our Senior Improvement Adviser - Special and PRU Education, Learning and Skills, Standards and School Improvement. I have attached the document for people to have a full read! Thankfully our head has told us not to do it, as he is reading it as a guide, not something that we have to do yet!
