With our Multipoint systems we use up to six directly connected monitors and usb hubs each with a mouse, keyboard and soundcard. For the most part this works great with Multipoint Server 2011 (2012 is junk) but we get obvious hum from the soundcards. Does anyone know of a cheap way to remove what may be ground loop hum form a soundcard output?

What kind of raid controller if any are you running and what kind of drives, are you using the latest drivers/firmware for the raid card or drives.

If you mount the vhd image can you check if the partition is set to system/bootable.

As it was never virtual you just need to make a new blank vm with the required virtual hardware and attach the vhd to it.

You don't need a big lab anymore, a decent motherboard, i5 or 7, a stack of ram and a nice quiet case you can esxi or Hyper-v it up and run it as a tested and standard station, a managed switch that supports vlans and you can run a massive amount. On the other hand most stuff you can spin up virtually on a decent spec laptop these days. I to have given up testing stuff at home, if they want me to do it for them they can pay me for it... at work. Any server stuff I run at home now is for my own use and run on a low power atom box with a stack of storage hidden away and only ever remoted into.

What is the roaming aggressiveness set to in the wireless driver on the laptop, wind it up or down depending on your need. A bad client driver can negate even the best managed wireless system.

I used something similar to kill a bad install of flash player (like they are not all bad) but it proved to be a much better tool for killing the keys than anything else.

If internal it can still yield a decent result, I'm not suggesting a contractor do this. There are always going to be edge cases like grounded metallic insulation in walls and weird electrical systems. There is a middle zone where the learning is as valuable as the initial deployment and this site is all about decemination of skills and ideas so that everyone has a better idea of how to do stuff. There is always a place for experts but the best outcome is everyone knowing more about it so that experts don't need to be called in for every little thing. I know the last time it was a dead route issue to the 'end of the world' where I live but perhaps the same thing applies to the developed world to. Last time I did a traceroute to the address that said it was not loading then forwarded the results to my isp in a complaint that their internet has a few broken routes. After a couple of days the network team at my ISP fixed the route through the Chinese logging servers and I could again happily be tracked by both edugeek and the Peoples Republic of China. BTW, not exaggerating, that was the route my traffic took to EG at that stage due to my location.

From what I have heard it works in everything but word, with the web apps, word being by paragraph but they are working on it. I have not yet tested this myself though. I think it may be better demoed via the hell-beast that is Sharepoint anyhow.

You can do a lot with reading and trial and error though, in this case a professional contractor has been requested but it is not always necessary and it can benefit the school much more to give the experience to their local staff so upgrades are quick easy and cheap rather than requiring another couple of thousand pounds for a few hours work with their best effort implementation based on their possibly limited experience with the site and it's difficulties.

Not sure on this, there is a setting in the ruckus controller to enable the use of the tracking tags. They use a different standard than 802.11abgn which is much lower power and can transmit a limited amount of data, some I think include gps to increase accuracy but this kills battery way quicker, there are also tags rated to high temperatures. I think the triangulation is done either by client software configured by the user or the ruckus system with adequate information of wap locations. Some of them appear to have stuff like call or assistance buttons that look quite cool. I have not implemented it myself so my knowledge is limited to what I have read but I seem to be far more forthcoming with it than @neilmac.
