Netsweeper - Turning off key word filters
MrWu posted a topic in Internet Related/Filtering/Firewall
Hi I have been requested about the possibility of turning off key word search for 6th formers. At the moment, we are whitelisting blocked words manually that we deem false positive but mindful of turning it off, although it is a bit of a pain when it blocks words that are related to history / bology What do you think? Have been told without the above filter we are trusting Google Image safe-search. Many thanks! -

Unifi NVR server issue ... Netsweeper related?
MrWu replied to MrWu's topic in Internet Related/Filtering/Firewall
As a temp fix, I used the Slim Jet Browser, works pretty fast... Will get the Cert looked at half term in chrome too.... https://www.slimjet.com/ I think the server error 400 will pop up when you try to update, since it is trying to communicate with the cameras (like the Live feed) -

Unifi NVR server issue ... Netsweeper related?
MrWu replied to MrWu's topic in Internet Related/Filtering/Firewall
Damn that sucks .. what version of Unifi Video are you on? I’m on 3.10.6 Could be SSL related maybe ? Wonder if one could downgrade chrome ... -
Hi all Scratching my head in this one ... 2 Windows server, not VMs, running Unifi NVR software ... no changed made or patches, all of a sudden stopped working properly today after lunch .. Going to Live view or recordings on each of the 2 servers via chrome, often pops up with ‘unexpected server error 404’, and when going into Live view of each camera it says ‘unable to stream live view’. Did the usual, reboot servers, cameras etc, tested on different PCs same issue (bar one PC in my office that worked flawlessly and after using a different browser to access Unifi NVR that too began to consistently fail Recordings are ok, and logging into IP camera also works no errors ... Testing NVR on each local server had the same intermittent errors ... Here’s the thing ... maybe discounting a network switch issue (Unifi wireless and other browser based portals all working) I looked at Netsweeper logs for those NVR servers I’m seeing Streaming media denied (in shared catergory) and also Java related and google related traffic being blocked too... I suspect a change in Netsweeper recently (like today) has effected my NVRs and SSL decrypt and filter was turned on causing these issues ? Am I barking up the right tree? Thanks!

Unifi USG as a DHCP server / Schools Broadband Netsweeper
MrWu replied to MrWu's topic in Internet Related/Filtering/Firewall
Thanks for this! We do have an NPS server running 2019 built and was planning to use a USG (they are fairly cheap) to do the DHCP at least and VLAN that across. I presume then, you link the WAN port on the USG device to SB cloud router, LAN 1 port to the network that NPS server resides and LAN 2 is VLANed to the network where the BYOD Wireless lives? -
Hi all Still trying to get our head around a VLAN/RADIUS setup (we have UniFi, and schools broadband / Netsweeper) Was trying to utilise Netsweeper as a Captive portal (since I believe it's LDAP) but I think that's not developed at the moment which is a shame since SB can provide DHCP / authentication without need of in house NPS/RADIUS/DHCP etc) So my first step is to work out the easiest way to get a BYOD to acquire a DHCP address via VLAN before going into a RADIUS authentication. We have built a NPS server but was wondering if a Unifi USG can do DHCP and Radius role (for £100-£210) seems very cheap? https://www.ui.com/unifi-routing/usg/ or have I misunderstood how it works? Thanks as always!

How to tackle a Blacklisted IP ?
MrWu replied to MrWu's topic in Internet Related/Filtering/Firewall
Yes, Relay is on Prem, and good call with blocking access to 25 on prem. I have removed any unecessary server IPs from the on prem relay server itself, but will call them to block 25 globally on the firewall as well -
Hi all I have been using a SMTP server to relay emails for Copiers, finance server noticfactions etc, working absolutely fine for years, even after changing to schools broadband last August Past 2 days I have been recieving NDRs on the error logs, indicating: Status: 5.7.1 Diagnostic-Code: smtp;550 5.7.1 Service unavailable, Client host [85.92.XXX.XXX] blocked using Spamhaus. To request removal from this list see https://www.spamhaus.org/query/ip/85.92.XXX.XXX AS(1440) [AM5EUR0xxxxx.eop-EUR03.prod.protection.outlook.com] Now I delisted this this morning, and after 4pm, was blacklisted on SBL again My SMTP relay server only allows certain IP addressses to relay, and I have cleaned this up since the blacklist also to discount any potential PCs getting infected. Sending through Outlook 365, Outlook clients absolutely fine (I think this sent out via a different external IP address though, so just copier scan docs and notfiactions fom servers dont work. Whre else could I look? I have asked my SB to see if there is any unsual traffic coming out of my site, also should I also tell them to stop anything from Port 25 on the Firewall level bar just my servers and copiers I have on my SMTP relay list? thanks as always!

That noise would make me think someone is playing some ambient dance music rather than a moving bus and I might just get closer to catch what tune that was and in fact, get run over ? Ha ha

Thanks for the input so far guys. I do feel that day to day running is more important than worrying about a plane hitting the school. So my issue is at the moment School waited so long that teaching side implemented their own google classroom that is largely manual uploaded data a bit of a mess and I need to automate and sync this with AD and SIMS My ADFS office 365 solution is half baked and no sense of where it needs to go, SMT still sticking to mapped drives, attachments and nested NTfs security. Bursars idea of cloud solution is to shunt everything into cloud and if a plane hits us, 10 minutes and the school is up and running elsewhere in the cloud... elephant in room, what about media students or students doing music with Gb size files? The trouble is, sounds fantastic to governors if they say oh our school is completely DR in case of an act of god .. but day to day try telling the teacher it will take 10 minutes to begin a graphics lesson to download photoshop work from OneDrive / cloud but hey if the school burns down you can still run your DT lesson 10 minutes later in a tent !

Depends .... a) Would you be able to wait a few more years for PS5 to mature, and if its truly backward compatible to PS4 then play all the old games with enhanced graphics? b) You only live once, buy the Pro now and enjoy Uncharted, Horizon, GT Sport and Death Stranding c) However..Xbox One X is the best for Back compatibility, plays a quite few Xbox360 and Xbox Gen 1 games, pretty cool

Hi all Hoping to move away from WSUS and WUFB or intune to manage updates for Windows 10 LTSC and education Is WUFB and intune interchangeable or compatible with LTSC? How straightforward are these to setup? Thanks!

Thanks for this, will take a look.. Getting rid of ADFS is an interesting one, you can achieve SSO without that?

Hi all Although the school is happy running day to day, and we have new internet and infrastructure upgrade, I feel I have stalled in terms of moving to the cloud Part of it I think I’m still not fully invested / trust that the technology is quite there yet .. I think my manager’s vision which is to have total business continuity if the whole school burns down. So far we have ADFS / office 365.. exchange hybrid, and azure server replication for our SIMS and finance system. File access still mostly local Teaching staff has implemented Google classroom as a separate project and have handed this to IT (it needs a bit of work since the teaching staff went manual user creation as opposed to sims integration (we have just implemented wonde to sync class from sims as first step when we took over) On the office 365 side, WebDAV and drive mapping was suggested (since management ideally want all files to go cloud - but how about heavy media users or music classes ? Files are huge - we do have 1Gb lease line but I still can’t picture all file access done through internet day to day .. I still don’t trust WebDAV drive mapping since it’s not supported by MS I feel responsible for not having a clear vision on how to move my school forward to be honest ...(my long illness did not help and I fell a bit behind these 2 years too. Would really appreciate any advice and how you have implemented yours (esp mixed 365 and google ... thanks as always ..

Thanks all This has given me lots of pointers and support what I have been seeing. So past 2 days I’m sure it’s the MFD I saw 4 x print jobs sent to the Canon MFD and disappeared fairly quickly off both virtual and the actual device queue I then logged into that copier via web browser and sure enough the 4 jobs were sitting there with the first job chugging away... I asked the member of staff and she said everything from printing via PC to logging into the copier was super quick, until the JoB release bit.. I will do a bit of intensive testing with a test PC running with UFR2 drivers directly via TCP/IP to see what performance that brings ...

Thanks Steve will check this out too. So in theory, if a single print job (despite say needing 30 copies) gets released from the Virtual Queue = Follow Me to the Physical Print queue of the copier and it starts printing, then has it technically finished spooling off the server in this case (The Copier driver is set to print once the last page finishes spooling, so in theory its passed it onto the copier once the first page comes out? So the following 29 copies of the document is handled by the copier (and not netork or the server?)
