Dear all One of my least favourite program to install and image ! Anyone have a good guide to integrating Python 3.7 + and Pygame 1.9.1 (or indeed previous versions) always stresses my technicians out because it a pain in the proverbial to get working in a network reliably (also Mu as well!) Do you deploy it manually later or deploy Python / Pygame within MDT? Ta!

School's Broadband / Netsweeper slow performance?
MrWu replied to MrWu's topic in Internet Related/Filtering/Firewall
Just cleared up now I think... Had all sorts of weird SSL errors and then it cleared up, I presume when I rang into tech support, with the call volume there was a bigger issue, so told my school we will investigate. -
Hi This has happened fairly recently and driving me potty. On quite a few Windows 10 Edu machines that are freshly MDTed, they do not activate anymore and wont work doing it manually through GUI either. Running it via CMD I get this: Anyone having a similar issue ? I have renewed my MS agreement and looking at my available MAK keys I have over 500 to spare.. Cheers!

School's Broadband / Netsweeper slow performance?
MrWu replied to MrWu's topic in Internet Related/Filtering/Firewall
Thank you Just testing by moving a few of my PCs into Schools Broadband cloud router and re-pointing the gateway, little faster but same issues (with latency errors, and ones that can run the test are giving very varied performance (we have a 1Gb lease line from you) -
School's Broadband / Netsweeper slow performance?
MrWu replied to MrWu's topic in Internet Related/Filtering/Firewall
My first thought too, although they said can't help since I am not using their own lease line at the moment (we will in summer when the notice period ends on our current provider) Tracert runs perfectly on my current Virgin line, so unless our Firewall is lagging for some reason... unfortunately its the first thing support questions when there is an issue! (Not their issue) -
Hi all; We have been using a temporary setup for our existing 200mb Virgin lease line with School's broadband temporary Netsweeper webproxy for a few months, till we switch over fully to their 1Gb School's broadband line summer holidays. We are having performance issues (particularly this morning, where it fails due to latency on speedtest) and generally web browsing is slow (in Chrome you can see it flash up with 'Waiting for Proxy tunnel' on the task bar I have logged this with tech support but the basic answer is they can't help us due to them having no control over my existing ISP's line trying to connect with School's Broadband Netwseeper Proxy. Which is fair enough, but what factors would affect performance and what can be checked and tested short term? (School's BB have tried different proxy servers and ports and we have same issue) internet works perfectly without the Proxy filter. Also does using a webproxy impact on performance anyway? Thanks as always. Wil

Thanks for testing this, I'm having similar issues too... To clarify, do you set the default in config as: %homedrive% I still get the same print freeze when I try above, or should I just enter H:\ instead?
-
Ah I blanked out the boxes for privacy, all boxes were filled in.... so the Windows print dialogue won't appear until the Exampad box has been filled in properly..I willcheck...

Hi Thanks for the suggestion, have set this up on half the PCs in the room to test. I have captured one of the laptops giving trouble and it seems theres no Print Document screen behind Examwritepad, it freezes but running Impero it seems there's no print dialogue appearing so the screen remains greyed out, anyone had this behaviour before? thanks all!
-
I'm also trying to figure out how to do this (we have Windows NPS server with RADIUS and Unifi wireless setup, thanks for the link!
-
Hi Has anyone had issues with the latest LTSC 2019 Win 10 working with Examwritepad? works great there's just one quirk that at random times the print dialogue (point where you enter candidate print info) goes behind examwritepad and locks up but you can't get to that pop up to respond. Not a huge issue (the invigilators use Impero to close that print dialogue thats sitting behind examwordpad, but anyone else experiencing this? (again its not all the time)
-
thanks guys I think it's mainly down to print dialogue coming up and it sits behind the examwritepad screen and would not go into focus for the candidate to click YES. At the moment I'm using Impero to close the print dialogue behind and it closes the print dialogue freeing examswritepad up again...

Hi all How do you prepare for exam month? As we all know there is no such thing as it will all work 100 percent without fail during exams so I prepare as much as possible for things to fail. Our exams suffer with rooming so we have to roam around the school borrowing PCs from ICT rooms which sometimes struggle to prepare to a level we are happy with. Recently, we have bought brand new laptops with SSD and imaged to Windows LTSC so that a temporary office can be setup for exams, as usual we have exams account via GPO locking things down, impero so we can access remotely to support if need be, a brand new printer(s) mapped so they can print exam work, and examwordpad autosaving to Home drives by default, an invigilator account to access the home drives to extract work in case student crashes etc. have spare laptops all PCs in each room to fall back on as well. Yet, things still go wrong and exam officer gets unhappy, so meetings ahead to see if we can make it bullet proof. I have been off for a week so statiscally 18 PCs/Laptops there were 3 incidences over 4 days (2 laptop crashes, and one not loading the examwordpad shoutcut requiring a reboot to restore) all issues was restored, couple of students had extended time but this could be due to invigilator trying to sort it out himself as to not bother us or the exam itself too much. One issue I can see is us setting up temp network for these laptops via small switches which might cause network issues, but putting in a HP Edge switch gets noisey! So is the reliability satisitics still not up to snuff? Would you connect the equipment to the network at all anyway (Im thinking we can print and save to network) - is there anything more contigencies I can build in? Thanks as always

Office 365 rule to only allow a parent to email a single member of staff?
MrWu replied to MrWu's topic in Cloud Services
Thanks all Would this work? If the message... Includes these words in the sender's address: '[email protected]' Do the following... Redirect the message to '[email protected]' Rule comments Rule mode Enforce Additional properties Sender address matches: Header Version: 14.0.0.0 Only issue is does the 'include these words in sender's address' explicitly that match? Not a wild card? That's the best and closest options I can select from my Rules administration options.. -
Strange one Is there a rule I can apply in Office 365 to allow a single parent to be able to only email one member of staff in our school ? ie : [email protected] > [email protected] ok [email protected] will reject [email protected] thanks!

Hi Just a quick question with the autosave facility on Examwritepad, on occasions when student crashes out for some reason, we have a teacher PC thats linked to all the students homedrives where they can extract the last autosave and print the document for the student. on some occasions the autosave copy on the server is different to the version currently on the student'd machine? That is if we look at the file on the mapped home drive on the student's computer it reads 50kb and on the server hosting the home drive it's 0kb with no text?

Hi it's version 2.3.9.0 The canditdate screen freezes after pressing print (normally the windows pop up dialogue will pop up to select printer) - on problematic PCs this never appears. Was wondering whether the print dialogue box was hidden behind examspad but looking at taskmanager it appears not so... Printer is connected wired Ethernet, I might change the switch port to the printer and see if it improves things Thanks for your help
-
Hi We have been using ExamWordpad for a few years now, awesome product, just a quick question, occasionally when student print work and the candiadate screen comes up, pressing print the screen freezes out and the print selection dialogue never appears. I can pick up the autosave document from the server and get the student printed no pressure, but is there any way to cancel out of the candidate screen or anyone else see a screen freeze like this when printing? Thanks !

Windows 10 start menus / desktop icons .. best practice ?
MrWu replied to MrWu's topic in Windows 10
Thank you, have used your scripts and it works a treat. One one of the scripts (think it was No 2, does that need to be run as a login script..I think its the one that re creates the app when a new user logs in?) thanks ! -
Hi Been in since 8 am waiting for an Engineer to provision and move our fibre to go over to 1GB School's Broadband They have my contact number and one of the sub contractors even popped down Friday to look over the site to confirm. Hindsight I should have asked for contact number but he said he might not be the person on site to carry out the works. Dealing with sub contractors is a bit of a nightmare!

Hi I am rolling out windows 10 throughout my school soon and have searched the forums here, great powershell scripts to remove bloat etc. Also looking into using 2019 LTSC with MDT. I do have something I’m stuck on though, we use start menu redirection on windows 7 that doesn’t work that well with Win 10 What’s best practice with Win 10 to present a start menu with just the apps they need and not presented as A-Z apps in Win 10 ? We just use local installed programs and no remote apps. Thanks as always

Internet Explorer 11 / Proxy filter quirk
MrWu posted a topic in Internet Related/Filtering/Firewall
Hi all I have a PC that need to run BACSway finance Web based software. When adding Proxy filter and invoking the program to go to https://PCname.domain.sch:8001 it throws up a page not found error I have added Proxy filter exceptions both for that URL and the IP address.. wont work, With those settings the site can be accessed by Chrome and Edge however. I would use Chrome but been advised it only works in IE due to needing the Silverlight plugin Any ideas as to why IE blocks this site ? (I have even added that URL to trusted zone) Thanks as always -
Secondary school, 1500 pupils and staff... the governors have a corporate IT background .. must admit a lot of the questions I have gaps or senior management is not aware of...
-
Hi all Our board of governors have decided to look at auditing and policy across the school, including IT which I think is a good way of formalising our department, and tighten up on things that might not have been addressed .. They have listed following questions / suggestions Check all staff have login name, password and email address – how is this recorded and updated? Who has access to it? What software platform is used for school communications? Regularly reviewed, updated? What are its capabilities/limitations? Virus protection, monitoring/search capability, automatic triggers (e.g. specific words, material)? How often are search criteria reviewed and updated? Who controls rights of access, how, reviews, monitoring regime? When are IT Mangers audits carried out? What do they look like? Who do they report findings to? Check all staff have signed the Acceptable Computer/mobile device Usage Agreement. Where are access rights records kept, regularly reviewed? What criteria is used to decide on access levels? Is this reviewed regularly? What plans are in place to manage a ’serious (IT) security incident? Updated? What policy breaches have occurred? Response, learning? What training is given to staff? How regularly? Records? What is the monitoring regime to identify possible safeguarding risks, Prevent risks, inappropriate use etc. How is use of SM by staff monitored? How are school-owned portable devices and their use managed? How do we ensure leaving staff delete all school related material from their personal devices.? School has the right to' intercept, monitor, analyse and read email using school networks'. Do we, how, why, when? Any monitoring of comms between staff and parents/carers? If ‘yes’, how, if ‘no’ why not? How are FOI requests managed? Have we had any? Lots of good points in there and some I’m not familiar with or haven’t been implemented.. what are your procedures and Audits you carry out at your school? Thanks as always
